Fall 2021 Overview To maintain good academic standing with the EOPS program, student will want to fulfill their responsibilities as outlined by the Mutual Responsibility Contract (MRC) and Student Policy Statement (SPS). See links for full details.

• Enroll in 12 units each semester, (excluding summer sessions) unless a unit waiver is approved by your EOPS/CARE counselor each semester. If you are a part of Accommodation Service Center (ASC, formerly DSPS), meet with an EOPS counselor regarding your unit course load.

• Maintain a 2.0 semester GPA and demonstrate academic progress as determined by the academic policies of MSJC and EOPS/CARE.

• Changes to your education plan must be approved by an EOPS/CARE counselor. • Complete required contacts #1-3 during the specific time frames, as indicated on your student

syllabus. Failure to complete required contacts will result in Intervention. o Important: Intervention does not stop students from receiving their EOPS services.

Students who are on intervention will continue to receive services unless they are dismissed. To avoid being dismissed, students will be required to schedule and complete the intervention contact with an EOPS counselor. Students will have opportunity to appeal if they are dismissed.

Financial Aid Disbursement dates: Disbursement Schedule

EOPS Contacts EOPS counseling contacts are to ensure that students are progressing every semester. These contacts serve as “check-ins” and we encourage you make the most out of every meeting. Students are responsible for scheduling and managing their appointments. All contacts must be completed in its designated timeframe. Please be mindful of our appointment policy. Students will be placed on intervention if any of the following occurs:

• Missed a contact without notifying EOPS program • “Late Show” (10 or more minutes) for two or more contacts • Completing contact after the deadline (see below for deadlines)

Contact ❶ Education Plan (Appointment only) • August 16th - October 8th You will be meeting with an EOPS counselor to discuss your educational and career goals. During this contact, you will be creating a comprehensive education plan. This is also a great opportunity for you to meet the EOPS team and address any questions/concerns you may have. Contact #1 overview:

• Create a comprehensive student education plan • Explain general education options A, B & C

Contact ❷ Progress Report (Walk-in only) • October 4th - December 3rd

Contact #2 is when students meet with their professor(s) to discuss their current academic progress. A video meeting via zoom is recommended. However, if students are unable to meet with their professors, they can obtain grades from canvas and email a copy to the counselor prior to their meeting. Counselors will review and discuss your progress for the semester. Students have three (3) options for completing their 2nd contact:

Option I: Student meets with EOPS Counselor for Appointment

• Video Appointments – students are encouraged to schedule a video appointment for their meeting. A video appointment provides a safe space for the student and counselor to discuss and review each student’s academic progress. Video appointments also have great features such as screen sharing and virtual signatures to enhance the quality of the appointment. EOPS highly recommends that students schedule a video appointment.

• Phone Appointments – An EOPS Counselor can receive the progress report form from students via email or a screenshot of grades from Canvas. Students can give counselors permission to sign the progress report form for them.

Option II: Student Meets with Counselor via Lobby/Walk-in

• Student can enter the EOPS Virtual Lobby via Cranium Café and meet with the next available counselor. Please be patient as Counselors may be in another meeting and will add you to their virtual lobby as soon as possible.

• Counselor receives progress report from student via screen sharing or document upload in the chat box. Counselor then discuss and review academic progress with student. Counselors and student both sign using the pencil feature (typing signature is acceptable).

Contact ❸ End of Semester Review • November 1st - December 17th The goal for contact #3 is to review the student’s education plan and discuss course registration for the following semester. Students will be completing an End-of-Semester survey during this contact. Similar to contact #1 and #2, contact #3 is another opportunity to address any questions or concerns that students may have.

Contact ❹ Intervention • August 16th - December 17th This contact applies only to students who have been placed on intervention. Students who are placed on intervention have not successfully met the guidelines of the Mutual Responsibility Contract, which include:

• Completing less than 12 units in a semester without EOPS or ACS (formerly DSPS) unit waiver • Failure to complete three mandatory contacts during semester • “No show” or “late show” (more than 10 minutes late) for two or more contacts • Other issue as described by the EOPS Director or Counselors

During this contact, Counselors work with students to discuss strategies for success and identify beneficial resources/programs for additional assistance.

Priority Registration EOPS students receive priority registration. To be eligible for priority registration, new students must complete the assessment, orientation, and meeting with a counselor to complete at minimum, an abbreviated student education plan at least 3 weeks prior to registration. Continuing students who maintain “good academic standing”, will continue to receive priority registration.

What is Priority Registration? • The designated period during which EOPS students register for courses for each semester, before

the general MSJC student population Prepare for Priority Registration:

• Check your student self-service for your registration date & Schedule your appointment with an EOPS counselor to discuss course registration

• Plan your schedule ahead of time by referencing the schedule of classes. Tip: You can add your desired classes and sections before-hand. When it comes time to register, all you will need to do is hit the register button. Don’t wait! Reserve your seat by registering as soon as possible!

Loss of Priority Registration: • Students who lose priority enrollment and California College Promise Grant (CCPG) due to academic

or progress probation must demonstrate significant improvement. Evidence of such improvement is defined as achieving no less than the minimum GPA of 2.0 and progress standard for the semester (have successfully completed 50% of all units (12 or more) in which a student has enrolled).

• Loss of Priority Registration due to surpassing 100-unit limit. Students will have opportunity to appeal. Students will have the opportunity to appeal.

High Unit Majors Students who are in a high unit major and have completed 70 degree-applicable units of instruction may be eligible to remain in the EOPS program through a unit waiver from the Director. A unit waiver will allow students to continue receiving support from EOPS to complete their educational goals. Speak with an EOPS counselor for more details.

Supplies Required course supplies – Items listed on the syllabus that are required for the successful completion of a course. Students may submit a request for EOPS to purchase course supplies for a value of up to $200.00*. To submit a request for course supplies, students are required to provide the following:

o Copy of the course syllabus outlining required course material o A quote from the bookstore o Copy of Student ID

Processing: Email all documentation to [email protected]. In the subject line, type “EOPS Course Supplies Request”. Upon submission, your request will be reviewed. If funding is available and you are approved, EOPS will process your request. You will be notified of the status of your request and EOPS will provide you with instructions for obtaining your course materials. Please allow fourteen (14) business days from the date of submission for processing. Students are responsible for submitting all required documentation.

Book Grant The Book Grant provides you with a set amount to help you offset the cost of your required textbooks for enrolled courses. The grant does not cover the entire cost of all your books. It is meant to help pay for a portion of your textbooks.

You will receive an email from MBS direct once your book account is available to you through the bookstore website. Book accounts will be available on specified dates. Refer to “Important Dates” for more information.

Students must comply with the Bookstore established textbook rental agreement. The EOPS program is not responsible for any other cost associated with the rental of textbooks other than the rental textbook fee. You must comply with the textbook rental agreement in order to be eligible to receive their service.

Amount: $250 (Subject to change)

Using your Book Grant: 1. Once you receive email notification from MBS direct, you will need to login to the campus bookstore

website to order your books (Student ID is required) 2. You can purchase both NEW and USED textbooks for the current semester only 3. Textbook Rental – EOPS will cover the textbook rental fees (EOPS will not be responsible for any

other fees other than the Rental Fees associated with renting your textbooks) 4. Purchase your books through the campus bookstore – No reimbursements are available for

textbooks purchased outside of the MSJC bookstore

SGA Sticker/Parking Permit The Student Government Association (SGA) is an organization run by students for students. Your $7 helps SGA sponsor a variety of fun activities and programs on campus, such as BBQ’s, athletic events, student leadership training, club activities and more. The SGA Sticker fee provides students with:

• 5% off on purchases at the Eagle Bookstore and Eagle Express Café • Discounts on lunch at SGA BBQ’s and events • Discounts at supporting local vendors • Free school supplies (while supplies last) • Free admission to home athletic games (excluding playoffs)

Requesting your SGA Sticker:

• When to request your SGA Sticker o New & Continuing students can request their SGA sticker starting August 16th 2021.

• Picking up your SGA Sticker from the Cashier’s office or from the bookstore. Student ID is required for both pickups

o Cashier’s Office pickup: Once you have been notified that your services are available, request your SGA sticker

through self-service. Upon completing your request, you may visit the Cashier’s office during their regular

hours. o Eagle Bookstore pickup:

24 hours after you submit your request, login into your student eagle advisor and click “Print SGA Verification: on the right side of the screen”

Print the verification form and take it to the bookstore to pick up your SGA Sticker Reimbursements:

• You will automatically be reimbursed if you have already paid for your SGA Sticker. Reimbursements take 6-8 weeks for processing and will be refunded in the same method of how you selected to receive your financial aid disbursements (May be combined with another financial aid disbursement).

Student Health Fee Mt. San Jacinto College students have access to high quality, on-campus health care that is professional, confidential, supportive, and affordable. The MSJC Student Health Centers provide first aid and basic out-patient care to MSJC students. The student health fee is mandatory and EOPS does pay for the student health fee. If you have already paid, it will be reimbursed in the same method as your FAFSA disbursement.
