Mass Intentions for the Week WEEKLY PARISH CALENDAR

Page 3 St. Dominic Church June 23, 2019

The feast in honor of St Padre Pio was indeed a success. It was an amazing experience for all. The unity of our parish; the message of love resonating to the entire neigh-borhood is a powerful testament to the Gospel. St Dominic’s is alive and well, spread the word that here at St Dominic’s all are welcome at the table of the Lord. Today is Corpus Christi, the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. How does this affect my life, your life? It is a day in which we reflect upon the greatest gift given to us; the ability to receive and be in communion with Jesus. At every Mass, gifts of bread and wine are brought up. They seem to be an insignificant offering. But God does wonderful things with them. They become His Body and Blood. After the prayers of the faithful, when everyone is seated, we need to look at the Presentation of Gifts and pray to the Lord. We need to pay homage to Him. The word Eucharist means to give thanks. Often, when we pray we are requesting something. That is per-fectly valid. But that is only one reason why we pray. We also pray offering thanks to God for what we have received. We thank God for calling us and our loved ones to Himself. We thank God for our lives. We thank God that with Him our lives have value. We thank God because we have experienced His Presence, His Love in our lives. When we receive communion, each one of us re-ceives the whole of the Lord. We humbly acknowledge our dependence on God, and He gives us a full share of His Presence. No one receives more or less of the Lord than anyone else. No one is better than anyone else and therefore deserving a greater portion of the Lord. We are all on the journey to heaven. We all receive the food we need for this journey. We come up to communion united together in the Lord as one people, each person having his or her own gifts, each person receiving a full share of God’s presence. We come up and receive communion, not because we are so good. We come up to receive communion because we need Him so much. When we approach the altar to receive we must be mindful of the sacredness of this moment; we shouldn’t be acknowledg-ing people in the pews, we shouldn’t be talking in line to others, we should have our hearts and minds focused on Jesus.

Each year (Parish Name) joins with the Diocese of Brooklyn to conduct the Annual Catholic Appeal, which supports Catholic programs throughout Brooklyn and Queens and affects the lives of countless individuals and families living in our neighborhoods. The goal of the Annual Catholic Appeal is to raise a minimum of $8 million to provide programs and ministries throughout the Diocese and support the local efforts of parishes like ours. W Annual Catholic Appeal? The Lord calls us all to care for one another and the Church. It is up to us to foster faith and do good works in the ways we know how. Those who are hungry, without shelter, without access to Catholic education, men discerning the priesthood and those who are ill and dying are just a few of the groups who depend upon our generosity to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Your gift to the Appeal is a re-sponse in love to serve our neighbors by funding the ministries of the Diocese of Brooklyn that cannot be supported by any one parish alone but benefit all parishes in our Diocese. You can answer the call of Jesus who asks us to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, visit the sick and imprisoned, honor our mother and father, celebrate the Eucharist and educate and make disciples of all nations through your donation to the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal. Why is my participation important? St. Dominic has always counted on the broad-based support of its parishioners to accomplish its fundraising objectives, particularly for the weekly offertory. This appeal also needs that broad-based support. All households are asked to consider a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal (over and above their continued annual support of the parish in the weekly collection) over the next ten (10) months. W Annual Catholic Appeal ? In the coming weeks, every family will be invited to participate in this appeal and prayerfully consider a pledge. Please join with us to respond to those in Brooklyn and Queens who are in need and support the important work of our Church through a pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal today. Thank you and God bless you.

How Will Our Parish Benefit?

The goal at St. Dominic is $22,399

Once we exceed our goal, we will then receive 100% of all funds raised above this figure directly back to our parish.

Please remain assured that your gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal cannot be used in the settlement of abuse claims or for anything other than the intended purpose

outlined in Appeal materials. For questions regarding the Annual Catholic Appeal, or to schedule an appointment to

make a gift to the parish, please contact the

Parish Office 718-259-4636
