Clean & Green India : Toilet Project

Brief introduction of Manav Seva Foundation (MSF):

We are a NGO registered in 2005 as per section 25 of Indian companies act, head quartered at

Vadodara, Gujarat , India. We are engaged in various social activities for the welfare and upliftment of

deprived/not so fortunate people of the society since the last 10 years.

Our projects are:

1.

Aatmiya trade training centre: providing free of cost skill training.

2.

Swavlambi: women empowerment through skill development and

livelihood provision

3.

Clean & Green India – toilet project, dust bin

4.

Yoga/meditation/ayurveda : going back to our roots for healthy living

5.

Giving Scholarships



Under Clean & Green India project comes our Toilet block execution

project.

Government of India has taken an initiative under “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA)” to make India

Open Defecation Free by 2019 by constructing of individual, cluster & community toilets. With this

inspiration, the mission to provide healthy sanitation to our people in villages started.

A mission germinated:

Mr Asim Chandra, whole time Director, Indian Oil Tanking AEC

announced a CSR initiative of distributing 43 Portable mobile toilets on

19th annual day function of IOT AEC to add a little traction in the ‘Swachh

Bharat Abhiyan’ programme launched by our P.M. Mr. Narendra Modi &

to build social infrastructure for the weaker sections of the society.

Miss Anwesha Chandra, Director & CEO of Manav Seva

Foundation (MSF) joined hands with IOTAEC and took the responsibility

of executing the project of distribution & installation of the portable toilet

blocks. With the engineerig background of Mr. Asim Chandra, MSF started

designing a kind pf portable toilet which could be extremely fast to

implement and very practical for the benefecieries.

One toilet per hour mission!

Manav Seva Foundation knew the urgent need for high sanitation levels. To accelerate

the progress of sanitation in rural areas and semi urban areas, Manav Seva Foundation

(MSF) finally developed specially designed & engineered Dry & Wet portable mobile

toilets. These portable toilets are very practical and can be executed very fast to provide

individual families a toilet. These models are eco-friendly, highly durable, impeccably hygienic,

water resistant, portable and lightweight. These toilets are so easy to fit that one toilet

could be fit in under 1 hour and could be start using immediately!!



How we executed the project?

MSF executed the initiative during the period of August – October 2015. We approached

the DDO & the collector of Vadodara & Chhotaudepur district regarding our initiative.

We took names of villages & beneficiaries not having sanitation facility.

We short listed two villages in Chhotaudepur district named Bhordali & Jetpurpavi & inVadodara district we short listed Hansipura & Machhalipura villages.

With the support of the sarpanch & talati of those places, we have been successful in

rehabilitating 43 families by providing them our portable toilets in the above areas.

The portable toilets can be taken to rural areas easily in a knock down condition and

fast execution can be carried out with minimum man-power.

Hence forth we could finish the project in record time of 3 months!!

Impact:

We have distributed, implemented and rehabilitated sanitation of 43 individual

families in and around tribal areas of Chhotaudepur and villages around

Vadodara, almost changing lives of 260 people in a record time of 3 months!

And many more such happy faces…



VISIT REPORT OF 14/12/15

Today on 14/12/2015 Mr. Asim Chandra & Miss. Anwesha Chandra both visited the

beneficiaries of Hansjipura & Machhalipura villages of toilet project as per schedule.

Mr. Laxmanbhai Thakor, Deputy Sarpanch & Member of Panchayat body of Hansjipura met

with them and he seemed very excited and thankful to MSF for the toilet blocks. Quoting him,

“the toilet blocks has changed the health & lifestyle of families of 6 beneficiaries of my village

and specially the women of their families. They regularly use it, clean it and suggests others to

use it too. Better part of the toilets are that each of all are installed within two hours whereas

normal toilets taking almost 10 to15 days to install”

They went to the house of Mr. Ghanshyam Manilal Patanwadia, one more beneficiary.

According to him, two neighboring families were also using his toilet and they were also happy

using it. One of his female neighbors said that, “we women are so happy because it is really

helpful for us especially for night time use. “

Visiting other beneficiary houses, they reached one more beneficiary Mrs. Manjulaben

Natvarbhai Parmar, a family member of Late Mr. Narpatbhai Antolbhai Parmar, said that theyare a 15 member family and all now get benefit of clean and healthy sanitation especially for

the five female members in her family. She also suggested other families to use the toilets.

Next Mr. Asim Chandra & Miss. Anwesha Chandra met beneficiaries of Machhalipura village

near Kotambi, Halol Road, Vadodara.

Quoting one of many beneficiaries; According to Mrs. Premilaben Jayantibhai Vasava, wife of

Mr. Jayantibhai Ratanbhai Vasava, one of the beneficiaries, the simple design of the toilet given

by Manav Seva Foundation helps her to keep the toilet clean and her family benefits a decrease

in health risks.



VISIT REPORT OF 15/12/15

On 15/12/2015 Miss. Anwesha Chandra visited the beneficiaries of Jetpur Pavi & Bordhali

villages of Chhotaudepur toilet project as per schedule.

She visited the houses of 11 beneficiaries of Jetpur Pavi where almost 80 individual

benefitted from the toilets. They were all using toilets and appreciated them for their fast

implementation. She later met the Deputy Sarpanch Mr. Montu. According to him there are alot of families who still require such facilities. He also appreciated the fact that the women of

his village have greatly benefited from the toilet project.

Next she met the 20 families who were the beneficiaries of the tribal village of Bordhali, a very

interior village on the border of Gujarat and MP. This village is in such interiors that hardly any facility

reach them. All of the beneficiaries were very happy to share their experiences with the newly

designed toilets. One of the beneficiaries shared how it helped their pregnant daughter

towards healthy & safe sanitation before she would deliver a new life. Sarpanch of

Bordhali, Mr. Biswanath came to visit Ms. Anwesha and shared his gratitude to Manav Seva

Foundation. He shared that almost 140 people of his villages benefitted with thesespecialdesigned toilets and would want each family in his village to have this facility soon.

According to Ms. Anwesha Chandra, Director & CEO of Manav Seva Foundation, there are

families who can be benefitted with this project with the support of Government or any

individual or companies. The village people especially the women are facing lots of difficulties

during their sanitation due to unavailability of healthy toilets and need these facilities ASAP.

I request you to support this cause because we understood the reality on the grounds

regarding sanitation. The government on this project is spending lots of revenue and if you see

the reality (a few picture references attached), you’d see these toilets are not very practical

toilets because of the quality provided and its dimension and often never used or they become

dump yards of these families.

We intend to make sustainable change and need your support for the government to supportus for more such distributions.
