This MSc enhances yourspecialist knowledgeand understanding ofthe scientific principlesunderpinning optimalperformance in sportand exercise. It developsyour understanding ofcurrent theory, researchand debates in sportsscience and gives you theopportunity to conductan in-depth study in yourchosen areas of interest.

The programme providesopportunities for you to developprofessional skills, includingmonitoring, analysing, evaluatingand prescribing interventions andapplications to client issues for theoptimisation of performance ina sport or exercise context. Theprogramme is designed to developthe professional and academicskills of graduate sport scientists.Health and sport professionalswho want to take modules on astand-alone basis for continuingprofessional development arewelcome to contact us.

AssessmentAssessment is by coursework(eg laboratory reports, essays)and the final dissertation researchproject. Some modules may includeother forms of assessment, such aspresentations, project work orlaboratory observations.

AttendanceThe MSc is a one-year taughtprogramme with attendancetypically required on Mondays andTuesdays with additional self-study.

If studied on a part-time basis, theprogramme usually takes two years.

Who should applyGraduates with a good honoursdegree in sports science, exercisescience or a related subject. Thisprogramme is particularly suitablefor students with a keen interest insport science and its applicationto performance enhancement,including those with an interestin applied sport science, furtherstudy or research (eg PhD) in sportscience or a related subject area.
