Postgraduate MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience Introduction This degree programme is unique through its dual emphasis on specialist training in the area Cognitive Neuroscience, as well as on generic, transferable research skills for career and professional development. Students will acquire comprehensive resear ch experience from working with researchers of international caliber. The programme is especially recommended to graduates who want to specialise in t he area o f Cognitive Neuroscie nce continue to do a PhD, or get a feel for resear ch before embarking on a PhD enhance their C V by a r esearch-r elated Mast ers qualification. This course starts in October and is one year, full-time. Part-time options may also be available. Programme outline The MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience is focussed on a specialist taught module about the theoretical, practical and clinical aspects of Cognitive Neuroscience, including • Neuroanatomy Neur ops ycho logi cal Ass essment Cogn itive Neur opsy chiat ry Neuroimaging techniques involv ing EEG/ERP , MEG, and MRI/fMRI Imaging Genomics  Additional modules pro vide detailed study and practical experience in research design and analysis, and help the student to develop transferable, professional skills. Those include Advanced Methods in Psycho logical Res earch Advanced Research Design and Analy sis • Advanced Stat istic s Rese arch Rota tion Communication skills in Res earch and T eaching Pro fess ional Dev elopment  Assessment The course is assessed by a combination of coursework, examinations, practical work, oral and written presentations, and the dissertation project. The dissertation project is an original piece of research carried out under the supervision of experienced researchers of international standing normally associated with the Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience or the Neuroimaging research group. Entry requirements The course is open to suitably qualified international and UK graduates. Potential students must hold a least a 2nd class honours degree in Psychology or a related field, from a British university or a degree or qualification deemed to be at least of equivalent standing recognised by Aston University, plus two references. Students whose first language is not English must demonstrate a satisfactory command of written and spoken English. For International students this is demonstrated by an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher overall, but with no score below a 6.0. The MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience is focussed on a

specialist taught module about the theoretical, practical

and clinical aspects of Cognitive Neuroscience, including

• Neuropsychological Assessment

• Cognitive Neuropsychiatry

• Neuroimaging techniques involving EEG/ERP, MEG,

and MRI/fMRI

• Imaging Genomics

 Additional modules provide detailed study and practical

experience in research design and analysis, and help the

student to develop transferable, professional skills.Those include

• Advanced Statistics

• Research Rotation

• Communication skills in Research and Teaching

• Professional Development
