Using this Patchbook

Welcome to the MS-20 patch book, created to supplement the original book published in the late 1970’s. The authors of the original book created examples that were relevant during that period but could never have dreamed how music and technology would evolve over the next 3 decades. This collection is aimed at more modern music genres demonstrating the MS-20’s continuing desirability more than 36 years later.

The patches in the book are derived from the KORG iOS application iMS-20, this gives a nice graphical view of the MS-20 panel making it easier to set up these great sounds.

As the MS-20 is a real analog synth, it’s never possible that a software version will sound exactly the same. With this understanding, use these examples as starting points for cre-ating new sounds which greatly lend themselves to further adjustments, fine tuning and tweaking until you get the results you desire.

You will also notice 2 additional switches on the diagrams, these are present on the soft-ware but not on the analog hardware version. These have been left visible deliberately so you can see how the patches were originally created.

We hope that thru experimenting and trying these examples, it will demonstrate how the patching panel can be used. In our opinion this is where all the magic happens and opens the door to the rich and varied sonic pallet of sound that the MS-20 is both capable and famous for.
