Political Cartoon Project: Consumerism and Quality of Life
Your task is to create your own political cartoon. Like professional cartoonists, your cartoon needs to convey a message surrounding Consumerism.
Using the planning sheets provided, you need to plan out your cartoon; this planning chart will be submitted with your cartoon and will help explain the message that you wish to send with your cartoon.
When creating your cartoon, you need to include some of the elements of political cartoons that we discussed in class: symbols, exaggeration, irony, captioning and labelling, and analogy. Since this is a vessel to convey your opinion on an issue that is important to you, your cartoon needs to show effort and care (i.e. neat and coloured).
The five elements of a political cartoon: Symbols: Using an object to stand for an idea Exaggeration: Overstating or magnifying a problem or a physical feature or habit Irony: The difference between the way things are and the way things should be or the
way things are expected to be Captioning and Labelling: Used for clarity and emphasis Analogy: A comparison between two unlike things that share some characteristics
