WHOA! Pretty awesome, but with privilege comes responsibility. Younger students are watching you,
so it is very important that you make wise choices, both
academically and personally. It is even more important that you
make these wise choices for your own sake, as they will help you to lay the foundation for a happy and
successful future. It is my sincere hope
that this is a challenge you are ready to accept.
Because Fifth Grade is the last year before you move down to Middle School, two of our most
important goals for the year are for you:
To accept responsibility for your own learning To be well-organized
Following directions Handing in work on time Using work time wisely Having the necessary materials for class Keeping a neat desk and locker Bringing weather appropriate clothing for recess Working independently, yet asking questions when
needed Having papers done neatly Following classroom procedures; Being respectful of yourself and of others Accepting the consequences of your actions...........
These are the signs of a responsible, well-organized student. Developing these positive
habits will ensure not only success in school,
but success in life, as well.
Our classroom is like a community, and just like in a community, we , in this classroom, take care of each other. We are respectful and kind and honest and forgiving at all times, and we always try our very best. We recognize that
we are all special, and that we all have been blessed with certain strengths and talents. No one of these is better than the other; all are
important and valued. Yes, our classroom is a community, and as in all communities, there are
rules to ensure that we get along and that everyone feels safe.
CLASSROOM RULES
Respect yourself, others, and the world
around you. Always, do your very best. Set goals and
work hard to achieve them. Be honest Accept personal responsibility for your
actions and your learning.

GRADES Letter grades will be based on:Points given for Daily WorkIn-class activitiesSpecial ProjectsTests / QuizzesAccelerated ReadingAccelerated Math
No Extra Credit will be given. It is important to do your best the first time, every time. There will be opportunities for Bonus Points to be earned on some assignments.
EXPECTATIONS
Assignments are to be headed correctly, well-organized, written neatly, and are to be a reflection of your best effort. Papers which do not meet these standards will not be accepted.
Assignments not finished in class are due the following school day by 8:30 AM.
Assignments which are not done on time or are done on time, but do not meet 'quality' standards will be due at 8:30 of the next school day. Twenty points will be deducted from the earned percentage when figuring the letter grade for these papers.
Late or poor quality assignments not handed in by 8:30 the following school day become a zero, and you will need to make arrangements to attend an after school Study Club to complete the late work.
Because it is imperative that you get fresh air,
exercise, and time for social interaction with your peers, recess times will not be utilized for late or sloppily done work.
Recess times will be reserved for addressing the
needs of students who may need extra help on a particular concept.
Any outstanding assignments will become Incompletes, and will need to be completed before a report card will be issued.
PLANNERS FRIDAY FOLDERS
Planners are to be filled out each morning by the 8:30 bell. Helpers check to make sure they are filled out correctly. If late work
becomes a concern, planners will need to be signed each night by a parent.
Planners are checked after last recess. Cross off any assignments that are completed, and circle those that are not. Check to make
sure that you have all materials needed to complete those assignments as homework.
Friday Folders go home each Friday and are to be signed and returned no later than Tuesday of the following week.
All completed and corrected papers are to be saved in your mailbox until they are put in your folder to
take home on Friday.
Tardiness School officially starts at 8:30 A.M. If you are not in the classroom by the time the
second bell rings, you are tardy. Seatwork begins at 8:20. Students in the room at
that time take their seats and begin the day’s work. Every effort should be made to be in the room, breakfast over, and all papers handed in by that time.
There will be times when that is not possible. When you arrive, please quietly and quickly go about completing your early morning activities.

We have lots of fun field trips planned for this year…some of them we will not even have to leave the building!
