ENGLISH DEPARTMENTHOMEWORK POLICY

The English Department believes that homework is an essential aspect of learning and practice. Homework creates and strengthens the habits of mind: persistence, responsibility and time management.

In essence, homework reinforces college and career readiness; it is an expression of classroom learning and will be assessed accordingly.

Therefore, due dates are firm and homework will be submitted in a timely manner in order to be relevant to student learning. (*All work will be graded).

MRS. DEDMAN’SHOMEWORK POLICY

Please be prepared to have homework every night, usually in the form of reading. Homework will last approximately 30minutes.

I will use PowerSchool and my website (www.dedmanenglish.weebly.com) to communicate assignments. In class, I will write the daily objectives and homework on the board each day. It is your responsibility to be prepared; utilize these resources.

You are in high school and are responsible for your actions. If you are absent the day an assignment is due, you are responsible for getting the assignment to me the next class. A simple email to me can ensure that you are prepared for the following class.

TURNITIN.COM

Certain assignments must be submitted to turnitin.com. If the assignment is not submitted to turnitin.com, it will not be graded. A hard copy of the EXACT submitted work must be turned in to the teacher on the due date. If the assignment is not the assignment submitted to turnitin.com, the grade will be marked as a zero.

All assignments must be submitted before class on the due date via turnitin.com. If the assignment is not turned in by the assigned time, it will be considered late. A hard copy must also be handed in during class. Handwritten essays WILL NOT be accepted regardless of computer issues.

DO NOT COME INTO CLASS THE DAY AN ASSIGNMENT IS DUE AND ASK TO GO TO THE LIBRARY TO PRINT YOUR PAPER- If you do not have a hard copy, you will need to use your own time to print, at needed (the library opens at 7 am and closes at 3 pm).

MAKE-UP WORK: EXCUSED ABSENCES

Students who are absent and excused are required to make-up the work missed in class (*A timeline will be agreed between the student/teacher). It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and complete all make-up work and to be prepared for the next class.

If you are absent the day an assignment is due, it is expected that you will turn in the assignment THE NEXT CLASS and will be prepared to participate in that day’s class as well. It is your responsibility find out what you missed and what you must complete for the next class.

You will be required to make-up any missed work (PAS, ELEs, Tests, Quizzes, in-class assignments) during an afterschool session (*Date will be determined between teacher/student). The student must also keep pace with the required reading assignments.

If the student is absent and unexcused, the student earns a zero for any work/assignments completed that day. The teacher will check with the office BEFORE THE NEXT CLASS in regard to whether or not the absence is excused or unexcused (*Remember to bring in your notes within 2 days of an absence if the absence is excused).

Page 14: MRS. DEDMAN’S POLICIES CREATIVE WRITING FRESHMEN ENGLISH.

ACADEMIC HONESTY Honesty in schoolwork requires that students do their own work.

Students MUST GIVE credit for any ideas, language, or thoughts which are not their own (*This includes paraphrasing).

To take the ideas, writing, or thoughts of someone else and pass them off as one's own is noted as plagiarism.

It is also dishonest, of course, to cheat on a test or to copy homework.

Plagiarism will result in disciplinary action and a zero for the assignment.
