MRI:
MR: Magnetic Resonance (MR) is a test that uses magnetic fields and pulses of radio waves to create images of organs and structures inside the body. This test is also called an MRI.
Why is it used?
MRI creates detailed images of bodily structures and systems without exposing patients to ionizing radiation. MRI is largely used as a diagnostic aid, but can also be used to determine disease stage and to evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing treatments. With regards to abnormalities of the brain and/or spinal cord, doctors use MRI more than any other imaging test. Other instances where MRI might be used include:
Various tumors, cysts and other abnormalities throughout the body Injuries, abnormalities and diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including joints, bones and
soft tissue Injuries, abnormalities and diseases of the heart Injuries, abnormalities and diseases of the lungs Abnormalities of the blood vessels Breast cancer Injuries, abnormalities and diseases of the prostate (men), or of the uterus and ovaries (women) Injuries, abnormalities and diseases to abdominal organs including the liver, gallbladder,
