Math
Ti83 or Ti84
Engrave name on the back of calculator
Class set is here in room if you want to keep your "not cheap" calculator at home
Advantages of having Ti-83:• get to practice using Ti83 at home to reinforce key stroke steps learned in class
• Ti83 will be used in math and science classes at high school• Ti83 can be used on EOC's(End of Course Exams....helpful for at home review/practice for exam)
Alg.Alg.
Ti83 or Ti84 is recommended(optional)
Alg. 1Get Ready to Work• all of the Alg. 1 standards will be covered & all of the 8th math
standards "not in Alg.1" will be covered(like Geometry topics, etc.)
• class time will be maximized, but because of all the material we have to cover it will also be necessary for Homework practice to be completed, notes taken at home after viewing "help" videos, etc.
Alg. Alg.
...but no worries! I will prepare the students for this Exam and they will be Ready! They just have to do their part and give their very best effort. Then they will be living in Awesomeville!!
so the Alg. 1 EOC is like a 5th 9wks average by itself and unfortunately you can't make "corrections" or take a 2nd Chance tests on the State Exam....
"Fix it"• When a student makes a passing grade on a Test they will have a chance to go through the "Fixit" steps for all of the problems they missed. The last step being the most important: Writing a specific statement describing what their mistake was and what they should have done instead.• If a Student completes the "Fixit" steps in a timely manner and they follow all of the steps then they will receive 10 points back on their Test. Skipping steps or not completing all steps will result in grade remaining the same. Also if a student writes "Reflection sentences" that are too "General" they will not earn points back. (Ex. "I did it wrong... I should have checked it..." Both of those are true, but they are General statements that fail to describe Specifically what the student did wrong and what they should have done)
• Goal is not to just increase their grade, but TO MAKE SURE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY DID WRONG AND LEARN FROM IT
Minor Grades(quizzes)-After each Quiz I will have a 1 on 1 talk with each student(what I call "Quiz Talks") to review the Quiz. Students will have the chance to find and explain their mistakes, and ask any and all questions they have about the problems they missed.
Also a score of 0 on a Quiz will mean the student either did not finish their Quiz or they were absent. And in either case they have not come back to complete it yet. Students should meet with me to plan when they will come back and complete/make-up Quiz.

THE 3 STEPS/INSTRUCTIONS for "FIXIT"• IN ORDER FOR YOU TO GET 10 POINTS ADDED TO YOUR TEST YOU MUST FOLLOW
THESE "FIXIT" STEPS. FAILURE TO COMPLETE ALL OF THESE STEPS WILL RESULT IN TEST GRADE REMAINING THE SAME.
• >>>> ON A NEW BLANK SHEET OF NOTEBOOK PAPER
WRITE THIS TITLE ON THE TOP OF YOUR PAPER:
>>>>("FIX IT" UNIT _ TEST)<<<<******And of course Your NAME also!!!
• >>>> NUMBER YOUR PAPER ACCORDING TO THE QUESTIONS YOU MISSED
• >>>> Scan the QR Code to receive that Test's "Fixit" Video
• >>>> *****PUT IN YOUR EAR BUDS & START FIXING THE PROBLEMS YOU MISSED FOLLOWING THE 3 STEP CYCLE LISTED BELOW*****
*****************************Please pause video as needed******************************** ***********AND ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU STILL HAVE**********
STEP 1) FastForward the video to the first problem you missed and "play" that problem: Copy and ReWrite everything that I write on the video(even if you just missed one "little/small" thing, still write everything that I write down about that problem)
STEP 2) THEN LOOK at your Original Explain/Work Paper and try to find your mistake. IF you find your mistake THEN Highlight the mistake(PLEASE DO NOT Highlight the entire problem....IF you messed up on almost the ENTIRE problem then DON'T Highlight just move on to step 3)
STEP 3) MOST IMPORTANT STEP OF ALL: Using the Reflection/Explain sheet WRITE A SENTENCE OR TWO ABOUT: What you did wrong, What you should have done instead, and Describe SPECIFICALLY what you have learned from
watching the video and comparing that to what you did on the problem you missed.
• >>>> After EACH question you finish "Fixing" using the cycle{steps 1,2,3} THEN come to my desk so you can VERBALLY EXPLAIN what you did wrong & SPECIFICALLY DESCRIBE how the problem should be correctly worked out.
Successfully getting your verbal explanations checked off by me for all of the problems you missed will result in you earning 10 points back on your Test!(max."fixit"score 99)
• >>>> When you have been checked off for all problems missed THEN:****STAPLE your "Fixit" work in this order:
(ON TOP) Pink Reflection/Explain sheet (IN MIDDLE) White Original Explain/Work sheet (ON BOTTOM) Notebook Paper of Fixit copied video notes
• >>>> THEN put stapled work in Mr. Shealy's "metal hands" please!
**IF YOU DO NOT FINISH THEN STAPLE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE AND** **GO PUT IT IN THE __(A) TRAY ON THE WHITE TABLE OVER BY THE** **WALL IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM**
IF NOT FINISHED you are responsible for coming back to complete the "fixit" process during the Enrich Block, after school, etc. FAILURE TO DO SO in a timely manner will result in not earning points back and the grade will remain the same.

Parent Invites to Google Classroom: In class we will be using the Google
Classroom app to post all homework assignments, all practice/reviews, and Test
date reminders, etc. You can follow or check these posts by accepting the email
invite from Google Classroom. (if you don’t see an invite then let me know and I
will send another invite) This will give you access to the student’s Google
Classroom posts and you will receive Test date reminders, TopTen Reviews(study
guides), HW assignments, etc. Thanks,
