THOR-50M Dummy MPDB BARRIER Cellbond have developed their MPDB Frontal Offset Barrier in line with requirements for the Euro NCAP Moving Progressive Deformable Barrier Test from 2020 onwards. The MPDB will be mounted on a moving trolley with a mass of 1400kg and impacted with a test speed of 60km/h. One of the honeycomb elements is characterised by varied crush forces, progressively changing within different zones of the element. This is achieved by a special manufacturing process, pioneered by Cellbond in 1994. This is also used for the current European side impact barriers (Advanced-2000 and AE-MDB). THOR-50M Dummy

MPDB BARRIER Cellbond have developed their MPDB Frontal Offset Barrier in line with requirements for the Euro NCAP Moving Progressive Deformable Barrier Test from 2020 onwards.

The MPDB will be mounted on a moving trolley with a mass of 1400kg and impacted with a test speed of 60km/h.

One of the honeycomb elements is characterised by varied crush forces, progressively changing within different zones of the element.

This is achieved by a special manufacturing process,

pioneered by Cellbond in 1994. This is also used for

the current European side impact barriers (Advanced-2000 and AE-MDB).

Cellbond was established in 1988 and has grown to become a global business, setting the standard for automotive passive safety testing worldwide. We export over 92% of our products, have offices in the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Spain and the US, and agents in China, South Korea and Malaysia. We produce the full range of deformable crash test barriers including the frontal Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier (MPDB) for use in the new test procedure developed by Euro NCAP and due to be introduced in 2020.

In addition, we produce Knee Ligaments, Headforms, Moving

Impact Trolleys, energy absorbers as impact countermeasures,

Barrier FE Models and Ventilation Devices for Side Impact.

In 2014 Cellbond began developing and producing anthropomorphic test

devices as Cellbond ATD. The first products included the

Flex-PLI and Q3 Dummy. Today, the range includes the Flex-PLI,

aPLI, Q3, Q6 and Q10 dummies, and the THOR 50M.

THOR-50M

BACKGROUNDThe Test Device for Human Occupant Restraint (THOR) is an advanced 50th percentile male anthropomorphic test device (ATD or crash test dummy) that represents human-like anthropometry and response to impact. THOR includes extensive instrumentation to assess the performance of vehicle safety systems designed to mitigate injuries in frontal and frontal oblique crashes. Adopted for the Euro NCAP Moving Progressive Deformable Barrier Test from 2020 onwards, THOR will also be used by Australian NCAP. Other NCAP programmes world-wide are considering THOR for introduction over the next few years.

IMPROVEMENTSThe Cellbond ATD engineering team conducted a thorough review of the existing THOR design, taking into account feedback from current THOR users. We looked at areas that could be improved without adversely affecting dummy performance.

This led to improvements in manufacture, assembly, operation and performance, including:

• Better fit for neck spring adjustment plug in skull

• Improved skull flesh fitment

• Face load cell assembly process simplified

• Neck spring and cable assembly improvements

• Enhanced engagement at lumbar & spine ‘slump’ adjustment

• Pelvis & knee flesh, alignment to assembly fixing holes improved

• Tibia flesh profile revised at knee

• Shoe manufacture & assembly method improved

• DAS on board

CERTIFICATIONCertification will be

carried out in-house at Cellbond’s ATD Test Facility,

which achieved ISO17025 Accreditation in 2016.

INSTRUMENTATIONCellbond’s THOR is offered with DAS

on board. A number of instrumentation and DAS options will be available.

SPARE PARTSA full complement of spare parts will be

available - please contact a member of the sales team for more information.

DEVELOPMENTCellbond is working closely with Euro NCAP and it’s laboratories to define the version for the 2020 protocols.

Demonstrator dummies are being prepared in conjunction with partners including DTS and will be available for evaluation testing - please contact us for more details.
