Translation of Letter Received from Eng. Luis T. Martinez Ramirez, General Manager of the Peñitas Hydroelectric Plant.

Eng.. Alonso Garcia Granados Lasquety

Representative for Muscle Products Corp., Mexico

As per your request I wish to inform you, as General Manager of this generating facility, that we have been utilizing the MT-10 anti-friction additive that you represent in the guide bearings for the number 2 and 4 turbines and generators, obtaining a reduction in operating temperature between 2 and 3 degrees Centigrade, on the basis of which we consider the results obtained up to this date to be satisfactory.

At the same time I would like to mention to you that according to the results of laboratory tests on oil samples taken from these units I would also like to mention that on the basis of laboratory testing of oil samples taken from these units we have requested that MT-10 be applied in all the lubrication systems of these machines.

I will inform you further on this point at some later date. I send you my warmest regards and my hope that we are soon in contact.

Sincerely,

Eng. Luis T. Martinez Ramirez

General Manager

Advantages of Using MT-10 in Turbine Bearings

• Lower Temperatures = Generate More Power

• Generate More Power with Same Amount of Water

Sometimes Things Don’t Go to Plan!

MT-10 is being tested in a turbine guide bearing in the Temascal Dam in Oaxaca.

But sometimes such tests do not go as smoothly as one would like...

Page 11: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

Temascal, Oaxaca

But instead of going down, the bearing temperature went UP after adding MT-10!

We had to convince the engineers that this was most unusual, and that some other factor must be at work

Page 12: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

Temascal, Oaxaca

We took temperature readings and oil samples from the bearing with MT-10 and another bearing (shown here) where MT-10 had not been added.

Page 13: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

Temascal, Oaxaca

The oil on the left is with MT-10. It shows clearly that the MT-10 cleaned the metal surfaces. Subsequent analysis showed a small increase in oil viscosity.

Page 14: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

When they showed us the oil sump of another bearing it was clear enough where all the dirt had come from!

In addition it also seemed that the dirt had blocked the heat sensor, causing a misreading of actual temperature.

…Sometimes They Work Better Than Expected

This small turbine in Argentina had MT-10 added 5 years ago.

Since that time they have not had to change the oil and the turbine has worked perfectly.

Steam/Gas Turbine Lubrication

Steam/Gas turbines often use incompatible lubrication technology.

Page 19: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

Steam/Gas Turbine Lubrication

But there are some thermoelectric turbines where we can apply MT-10. And we can clearly see that they would benefit from the product!

Steam Turbine Lubrication

One application where we have been able to use MT-10 is in the steam turbines of sugar mills.

For example, here in Bellavista in Jalisco...

Page 21: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

Steam Turbine Lubrication

…and in the Emiliano Zapata mill in Zacatapec, Morelos

The sugar mills burn the sugar cane, creating steam which is used to drive the generators and power the gears.

The gear is uncovered for maintenance.

It is driven by a speed reduction box connected to a small steam turbine.

Steam Turbine LubricationThe chief engineer has been having serious wear problems with this gear.

When wear gets excessive he has to change the oil, meaning that instead of generating power the mill has to buy electricity… at high cost!

MT-10 was added on March 16, 2006.

They applied 5% by volume.

Steam Turbine Lubrication

A week after the MT-10 was added the temperature dropped by over 3oC.

Which was the same drop in temperature experienced by the engineers in Bellavista, Jalisco

The engineers were delighted!

MT-10 in Hydroelectric Hydraulic Systems

Wicket Gate Controles

Page 30: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

Hydraulic Lubrication

The wicket gates control the flow of water to the turbine runner.

It is important that they work smoothly as they need to maintain a constant flow to avoid damage to the turbine.

Page 35: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

Hydraulic Lubrication

Sometimes the hydraulic oil is contaminated by water, reducing the lubricity of the oil and provoking shorter parts life.

MT-10 will help avoid wear even when the oil is contaminated.

Page 36: MPC Products Testing Report Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) Mexico Muscle Products Corporation April 2006.

Hydraulic Lubrication

And sometimes the hydraulic oil is contaminated by solid particles, sticking or jamming the pistons and other parts.

If the particles are small MT-10 will unjam even a stuck piston!

EP Test: Infernillo DamThis bearing usually controls the butterfly valve inside the tube.

The 65cm. discs have to support 85 tons!

Usually turning it requires injecting oil under pressure.

But the engineers successfully turned the valve with just MT-10 painted on to the discs.

Selling to hydroelectric and thermoelectric plants is not easy…

But the MPC products work well…

The volume potential is enormous!

And the lessons we learn here can also be applied in other industries...
