What is it?

HEALTH CARE REFORM

MAIN CHANGES (and Mandates) to Individual Insurance Policies:

• MUST offer “Essential Health Benefits”• MUST cover Pre-existing Health Conditions• AVAILABILTY of Subsidies (Lower Cost) based

on ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME

• Emergency services

• Hospitalization (such as surgery)

Example 1: Family A is eligible for a tax credit of $800.00 /month. Family A selects QHP that cost $1,000.00 /month. If they elect to receive the full amount of the tax credit in advance, $800.00 /month will be paid directly to the QHP issuer, and Family A will pay the remaining $200.00/month premium.

Example 2: Individual B is eligible for a premium tax credit of $400.00 /month. Individual B selects a QHP that costs $350.00 /month. If he or she elects to receive the full amount of the premium tax credit in advance, $350.00 /month will be paid directly to the QHP issuer, and Individual B will have no monthly premium payment.
