Make sure that the operating instructions are available to persons responsible for theplant and its operation, as well as to person who work independently on the units. Youmust also ensure that the documentation is legible.

2 Safety Notes2.1 Designated use

The MOVITRANS® TIS10A025... installation components may only be used withTHM10E pick-ups.

TheMOVITRANS® TIS10A008... installation components may only be used with the u-shaped THM10C or THM20C pick-ups.

Do not operate the unit until you have established that the machine complies with theEMC Directive 89/336/EEC and that the conformity of the end product has been deter-mined in accordance with the Machinery Directive 98/37/EEC (with reference to EN60204).

The Professional Association (Berufsgenossenschaft, BG) BG regulation B11 "Electro-magnetic fields" must be observed during installation, startup and operation of systemswith contactless energy transmission by induction for use in industrial workplaces.

2.2 Operational environmentThe following uses are prohibited unless the units are expressly designed for the pur-pose:

In longer transmission lines, the MOVITRANS® TCS compensation boxes are con-nected in series to the TLS line cables.

The TVS connection distributors are used as connection points for the line cable in thefield. Observe all information on the technical data and the permitted conditions wherethe unit is operated.

The MOVITRANS® TLS line cables are intended for use in industrial and commercialinstallations for the operation of contactless power transmission systems. The TLS linecables are suitable for the connection to the TAS transformer module on the output side.The TLS lines cables are laid along the transmission line. Observe all information on thetechnical data and the permitted conditions where the unit is operated.

• Use in potentially explosive areas.

• Use in areas exposed to harmful oils, acids, gases, vapors, dust, radiation, etc.

• Use in non-stationary applications that are subject to mechanical vibration and shockloads in excess of the requirement in EN 50178.


2 Installation and startupSafety Notes

2.3 Installation and startup• Never install damaged products or take them into operation. Submit a complaint to

the shipping company immediately in the event of damage.

• Only specialists with the appropriate accident prevention training are allowed toperform installation, startup and service work on the unit. These specialists must alsocomply with the regulations in force (e.g. EN 60204, VBG 4, DIN-VDE 0100/0113/0160) when performing this work.

• Follow the specific instructions during installation and startup of the othercomponents!

• Take appropriate measures (for example, connect binary input DI00 "/CONTROLLER INHIBIT" to DGND on the TPS10A stationary converter) to ensurethat the system does not start up unintentionally when power is switched on.

• Please wear appropriate protective clothing during assembly, especially whensoldering the TLS line cables. Take appropriate security measures to prevent burnsby the soldering iron or by hot solder. Take appropriate measures to prevent hotsolder from leaking.

2.4 Operation and service• Disconnect the TPS10A stationary converter and the TAS10A transformer module

from the supply system before removing the protective cover. Dangerous voltagesmay still be present for up to 10 minutes after disconnection from the power supplysource.

• When the unit switch is in the ON position, dangerous voltages are present at theoutput terminals as well as any connected cables and terminals. This is also the casewhen the TPS10A stationary converter is inhibited.

• The fact that the V1 operation LED and other display elements are no longerilluminated on the TPS10A stationary converter does not indicate that the TPS10Astationary converter and the TAS10A transformer module have been disconnectedfrom the power supply and do not carry any voltage.

• Preventive measures and protection devices must correspond to the regulations inforce (e.g. EN 60204 or EN 50178).

Required preventive measures: Ground the unit

• Take suitable steps to ensure that the preventive measures and protection devicesdescribed in the operating instructions for the individual MOVITRANS® componentshave been implemented correctly.

• With the protective cover removed, the MOVITRANS® units have enclosure IP00.This also applies to the TCS compensation box and the TVS connection distributor.Dangerous voltages are present at all components. All units must be closed duringoperation.

• Safety functions within the unit may cause system standstill. Removing the cause ofthe problem or performing a reset can result in the system re-starting on its own. Ifthis action is not permissible due to reasons of safety, disconnect the TPS10Astationary converter and the TAS10A transformer module from the power supplybefore correcting the fault.

4 Prefabricating the TLS Line Cable Installation

4.1.2 Cable type

The TLS line cables are medium-frequency cables. The core of the medium-frequencycable consists of numerous thin wires that are insulated from each other by a coating.

4.1.3 ProcedureThe TLS line cable ends are soldered to a cable lug during prefabrication. Do not pressthe cable lugs!We recommend a soldering pot and a hatchet-type soldering iron for soldering the cablelugs.

To prefabricate the TLS line cables proceed as follows:

1. Push the shrinking tube over the cable end.

2. Mark the length to be stripped.

3. Remove the insulation at the end of the cable.

4. Remove the insulation (coating) of the individual wires and solder the cable lug.Here, you have the following options:

A With a hatchet-type soldering iron (suitable for line cable cross sections of8 mm2):

• Pour the solder into the cable lug to halfway.

• Insert the stripped cable end in the cable lug.

• Heat the cable lug with the hatchet-type soldering iron until the insulation ofthe individual wires melts and leaks out of the cable lug as brown waste.

B With a soldering pot and a hatchet-type soldering iron:

• Hold the stripped cable end in the soldering pot until the insulation of the indi-vidual wires melts and floats to the top of the soldering cup.


• Insert the cable end in the cable lug.

• Heat the cable lug with the hatchet-type soldering iron again.

C With a gas flame:


• Insert the stripped cable end in the cable lug.

• Heat the cable lug with the gas flame until the insulation of the individual wiresmelts and leaks out of the cable lug as brown waste.

4 Prefabricating the TLS supply cable Installation

Make sure that the insulation of the individual wires leaks out of the cable lug duringsoldering! This is essential for a good connection with low contact resistance.

5. Push the shrinking tube over the soldering point.

6. Heat the shrink tubing until it closes tightly around the soldering point.

4.2 Prefabricating the TLS supply cable4.2.1 Cable type

The TLS supply cable is a six-core cable. There are 3 blue cores and 3 black ones. Inthe supply cable, the conductor wires are not insulated against one another. Three coresof the same color are used as outgoing cables or return cables.

4.2.2 ProcedureTo prefabricate the TLS supply cable proceed as follows:

1. Using a standard tool, press each core end together with a ring cable lug. For cablelug types, refer to section "Technical data/TLS line cable/TLS supply cable" (page37)

4.3 Connecting the TLS line cable to the TCS compensation box4.3.1 Procedure

For the connection of the TLS line cable to the TCS compensation box, proceed as fol-lows:

1. Remove the blanking plugs according to the number of line cables to be connected.

2. Insert the correct number of M25/M32 cable glands in place of the blanking plugs.

3. Open the compensation box by removing the four M5 hex head screws from thehousing cover.

4. Insert the prefabricated line cable through the cable gland into the wiring space of thecompensation box.

5. Connecting the TLS line cable to the TCS:

– Remove the two M8 combi pan head screws from the connector plate of thecompensation box.

– Connect the line cables prefabricated with cable lugs to the terminal studs. Screwthe two combi pan head screws back into the terminal studs. The line cables arenow in place.

The following figure shows the line cable connected to the compensation box:

6. Install the housing cover again using the four M5 hex head screws.

4.4 Connecting the TLS line cable to the TVS connection distributor4.4.1 Procedure

For the connection of the TLS line cable to the TVS connection distributor, proceed asfollows:

1. Remove the blanking plugs according to the number of line cables to be connected.

2. Insert the correct number of M25/M32/M40 cable glands in place of the blankingplugs.

3. Open the connection distributor. by removing the four M5 hex head screws from thehousing cover.

4. Insert the prefabricated line cable through the cable gland into the wiring space of theconnection distributor.

5. Connecting the TLS line cable to the TVS:

– On the terminal board, unscrew the M6 hex nuts from the connection stud bolts.The number of nuts to be removed depends on the number of cable lines to beconnected.

– Connect the jumpers according to the circuit diagram.

– Connect the line cables prefabricated with cable lugs to the connection stud boltson the terminal board. Screw the M6 hex nuts back onto the connection stud bolts.The line cables are now in place.

4.5 Connecting the TLS supply cable to the TVS connection distributor4.5.1 Procedure

For the connection of the TLS supply cable to the TVS connection distributor, proceedas follows:

1. Remove one blanking plug (M32) from the connection distributor.

2. Insert an M32 cable gland in place of the blanking plug.

3. Open the connection distributor. by removing the four M5 hex head screws from thehousing cover.

4. Press a ring cable lug (6 mm2 with 6 mm hole) onto each of the six cores of the supplycable.

5. Insert the supply cable that is prefabricated with cable lugs through the cable glandand into the wiring space of the connection distributor.

6. Connecting the TLS supply cable to the TVS:

– On the terminal board, unscrew the M6 hex nuts from the connection stud bolts.The number of nuts to be removed depends on the number of cable lines to beconnected.

– Connect the jumpers according to the circuit diagram.

– Connect three cores of the supply cable that are the same color, prefabricatedwith cable shoes, to the connection stud bolts on the terminal board. Screw theM6 hex nuts back onto the connection stud bolts. The supply cable is now inplace.

4.6 Grounding the TCS compensation box/TVS connection distributor4.6.1 Guidelines

Please comply with following directives when grounding the TCS compensation box andthe TVS connection distributor:

• Ground the unit by the shortest possible route.

• Use a green and yellow grounding cable.

4.6.2 ProcedureProceed as follows to ground the TCS compensation box and the TVS connection dis-tributor:

1. Connect the ground connection (cable cross section 16mm2) to the local ground po-tential (e.g. to an aluminum rail of overhead trolley systems)

4.7 Installing the TIS10A008... equipment V14.7.1 Guidelines

The TIS10A008.. installation equipment (Holding fixtures, profile sections, retainingplates, cable bushings) is suitable for the mounting on aluminum profile rails (e.g. over-head trolley systems) or universal mounting on machines. A shielding plate must beused for the mounting on a steel construction.

Please comply with the following directives for the mounting on aluminum profile railsand universal installation:

• Following TIS...-H..-0 holding fixtures are required for the secure mounting of theTIS...-P..-0/TIS...-F..-0 profile sections:

– for straight tracks with a TIS...-PXX-0 rigid profile section: 2 pieces/meter

– for curves with a TIS...-FXX-0 flexible profile section: 3 pieces/meter

4.7.2 ProcedureFor the mounting on aluminum profile rails and universal mounting, proceed as follows:

1. Insert the TIS...-H..-0 holding fixtures into the aluminum profile rail (or into the TIS...-XH2-0 universal retaining plate for universal mounting).

Mount one holding fixture at the start and one at the end for each transmission line.On straight tracks, there is a distance of 50 cm between the holding fixtures. In,curves there is a distance of 30 cm.

2. Please ensure that all of the holding fixtures' screw plugs are open.

3. Press the TIS...-P..-0/TIS...-F..-0 profile sections into the TIS...-H..-0 holding fixturesuntil they snap (see fig.[A]).

4. Adjust the TIS...-P..-0/TIS...-F..-0 profile sections

5. Close the TIS...-H..-0 holding fixtures' screw plugs (see fig. [B]).
