Movie Poster Composition

The grid composition is where the page is divided into equal rectangles or squares. These mark where you want to place the different elements of your poster. This can help the poster look more symmetrical.

The poster shows this clearly as the characters are placed near the centre of the image.

Rule of thirds is a more developed, yet classic grid layout. This separates the image into nine equal sections. The four points where the sections meet are the focus points.

This poster clearly shows because where the four points meet, the pictures of the main characters are placed.

The main element is usually circular, so it fits the focus of the viewers eye.

The poster shown has all the main characters within the focus oval, drawing the audience to their attention.

This is where the elements within the poster draws the audience’s gaze left to right, then now to the bottom, to go from left to right again.

The poster here shows this as it has the name of the actresses at the top, the image in the middle, and the title at the bottom.
