2. You just dont get it, do you? This is probably one of the most overused phrases in films or moviesranging from good ones to bad ones, said by ordinary actors as well asthe big stars. The phrase is basically used to show that the character thephrase is being said to does not understand the situation or circumstance. 3. Differences between everyday life experiences andeveryday life in popular media and performances When the line You just dont get it, do you? is said in a filmor movie, it is used to show that the character who is sayingthe line understands what is going on or has the upper handin the situation while the character whom the line is beingsaid to does not understand what is going on. It is basicallya line that we would seldom or rarely use in real life becausewe would probably just explain whatever the person doesntunderstand to him/her instead of asking the obvious. Sometimes, the line is said because different people have adifferent idea of what is it so one might think they get itwhile the other person might think the other way round. Inthe movie Daylight (1996), the main character says Youreright, I know that, I just wanna help suggests that he doesknow what is going on but the other character who saysHelp? You dont get it, do you? suggests that he thinksotherwise. Once again, even if we have different opinions ofa certain subject in life, this is a line we would seldom say 4. Personal Opinion I think that this line is so overused in films ormovies just to show people how one of thecharacters in the movie in a certain situation doesnot understand what is going on. I believe it is usedto give a clearer picture to the audience as well sothat we can know what is actually going on or whatthe script writer wants us to think. On the other hand, I also think that this line is usedwhen someone has a good intention and wants tohelp or do something but gets countered bysomeone else saying that line because he/she maynot understand fully what is going on. The personwho says the line is most probably annoyed andwants to make the person who wants to help sounddumb by saying the line. 5. Getting Moral inthe Mirror 6. Sometimes in the middle of a movie a protagonist willsplash a little water on his face and have a quick one-on-one with himself in the mirror. It usually happens whenhes faced with a ethical decision; Vincent Vega talkshimself out of sleeping with Mia Wallace in PulpFiction, and Smeagol cures his own schizophrenia anddecides not Lord of the Rings. Protagonists consistentlyuse a mirror as a moral compass. In real life, not a lot of people talk to themselves in the 7. The psychology behind it: Studies have been conducted on both children and adults todetermine how confrontation with our own reflections affects ourmorality. One self reflection study conducted on Halloween gavekids the opportunity to grab candy out of unsupervised bowls. The bowls were exactly the same at separate houses on thesame street; the only difference was that one bowl had a mirrorbehind it. As a result, the children were significantly less likely tosteal candy when they had to look at their own reflections eventhough they were wearing costumes. A similar test was alsodone on adults at a news stand who paid for newspapers on thehonor system. The results were nearly identical; we are all morelikely to act morally while confronted with our own faces. So while the mirror pep-talk provides a nice cinematic analogy;the protagonist faces his physical reflection and through it can 8. There Are Two Kinds of People inthe World It is usually used to reflect a characters observation of peoplein his/her life Two types i) Tautologies ii) False Dichotomies. 9. Differences between everyday life experience andeveryday life in popular media and performances: To say there are two kinds of people in the world ispractically generalising people. For instance maybeone can say Theres only two kinds of people in theworld. Theres women. And theres men. (500 Daysof Summer). But then there are those who are acombination of it, or those who are both, or those whoare none transsexuals, in short. To begin with, there are many kinds of people in theworld. There are rich and poor and in-between. Thereare good people, bad people, and those in-between.There are those who like Twilight/Justin Bieber, thosewho hate them and those who cant be bothered aboutthem. To say there are (purely) two kinds of people in 10. Personal opinion:1. As mentioned, its supposed to represent a characters perception on people. It doesnt have to be true because this perception comes from the characters life experience or family upbringing. In My Big Fat Greek Wedding, for the example, the father of the main character says "There are two kinds of people in the world... Greeks... and people who wish they were Greeks" because the father would rather see his daughter marry a Greek than an outsider. In short, hes conservative.2. Then again, it can be philosophical or thoughtful to people in real life. Whether they want to live by it is up to them. For instance: "Two kinds of people: Those with power, and those without." (TheMatrix) Theres two kinds of people in this world, theres winners and thereslosers. Okay, you know what the difference is? Winners dont give up.(Little Miss Sunshine) My wife likes to say there are two kinds of people, those chasingpleasure, and those running from pain. (Tenderness) 11. True Love At First Sight.Marry a princess youve known for maybe a fewhours and expect her to love you and remainfaithful to you for the rest of your lives? Itsperfectly reasonable in Fairytale Land.(Practically all the Disney fairytale movies) 12. Do I believe in love at first sight? Yes, because the heart wants what the heart wants. Obstacles prevent people(that had love at first sights experience) to betogether. Example: Youre already married and suddenly to someone you thoughtyou were in love with and then at the supermarket you drop a can of beansand someone helps you to pick it up. Your eyes meet and your heart fluttersand you cant remember where you are or why youre there. You cant takeyour eyes off this person and your insides churn until you can barelyremember your name. You have responsibilities and dependents in yourmarriage that you cant just destroy or walk out on. The all famous Crocodile hunter According to both Terri(Steves wife) and Steve Irwin, it was love at firstsight Terri said at the time, I thought there was no one like this anywhere in theworld. He sounded like an environmental Tarzan, a superhero guy But sadly he died cause he was pierced in the chest by the stingray. (Somuch for loving the wrong ones, you ended getting hurt and die... haha! justjoking but you can put it in.. XD)
