MOVEMENT STANDARD
MOVEMENT STANDARDSW 018
SNATCHBOTTOM POSITION
For the power snatch, the barbell begins on the
ground and must be lifted overhead in one smooth
motion. Touch-and-go is permitted. No bouncing or
dropping and catching the barbell on the rebound.
Once dropped, the barbell must settle on the ground
before the athlete begins the next repetition. No part
of the body other than the feet may touch the ground
during the repetition.
TOP POSITION
The barbell must come to full lockout overhead with
the hips, knees and arms fully extended, and the bar
directly over the middle of the body. This is not a
ground-to-overhead any way. A clean and jerk,
where the bar is lifted to the shoulders and then
lifted overhead is a “no rep.” A power snatch,
muscle snatch, split snatch, or squat snatch is
permitted, so long as all requirements are met.
CLEAN AND JERKBOTTOM POSITION
The barbell begins on the ground.
The barbell must make contact with the shoulders,
such that the lift is in two distinct phases, the clean,
and then the jerk. Snatching is not permitted.
TOP POSITION
A shoulder press, push press, push jerk or split jerk
may be used, as long as the elbow, shoulder, hips
and knees are fully extended, and the bar finishes
directly over the body with the feet in line. If the jerk
is missed but brought back to the front rack, the
Athlete may re-attempt the jerk from there without
taking the barbell back to the floor.
COMPLEX: SQUAT CLEAN AND THRUSTER
The athlete must perform the two movements without pausing the barbell on the ground and resetting the hands.
The athlete can’t drop the barbell between the squat clean and the thurster; if he does, he must repeat the entire complex.
Cluster is not allowed
MOVEMENT STANDARDSW 018
SQUAT CLEANBOTTOM POSITION
The barbell begins on the ground. Touch and go is
permitted. No bouncing.
The Athlete must pass throught a full squat position,
with hips below the knees. Catching the bar while
above parallel will only be allowed if the athlete
continues to drop below parallel in a smooth motion,
without pausing or rising before achieving the
required depth. A power clean followed by a front
squat will not be allowed.
TOP POSITION
The rep is complete when the athlete’s hips and
knees are fully extended and the bar is resting on
the shoulders in the front rack position with the
athlete’s elbows in front of the bar. Hang squat
cleans are not permitted.
THRUSTERBOTTOM POSITION
This is a standard barbell thruster in which the
barbell moves from the bottom of a front squat to
full lockout overhead. The hip crease must clearly
pass below the top of the knees in the bottom
position.
TOP POSITION
The barbell must come to a full lockout overhead,
with the hips, knees and arms fully extended, and
the bar directly over the middle of the athlete’s body.
MOVEMENT STANDARDSW 018
ALTERNATED DUMBBELL SNATCHES
BOTTOM POSITION
The dumbbell snatch starts with the dumbbell on the
ground and finishes with the dumbbell directly
overhead. At the bottom of the movement, BOTH
heads of the dumbbell must touch the ground. The
dumbbell must be lifted overhead in one motion.
Touch and-go is permitted. Bouncing the dumbbell is
not allowed. Athletes must alternate arms after each
repetition. The dumbbell must be lowered below the
top of the athlete’s head before he or she can switch
hands for the next rep. The non-lifting hand and arm
may not be in contact with the body during the
repetition. If the athlete receives a no rep and has
already switched hands, the athlete may proceed
from where he or she is. The athlete does not need
to return the dumbbell to the no-repped arm for the
next repetition to count.
TOP POSITION
At the top, the arms, hips and knees must be fully
locked out with the dumbbell clearly over the middle
of the athlete’s body when viewed from profile. Once
the athlete has reached lockout, the repetition will
count. The athlete may choose to do a muscle
snatch, power snatch, squat snatch or split-style
snatch. However, both feet must return and be in line
under the athlete’s body while the dumbbell is
locked out overhead for the repetition to count.
DEADLIFTBOTTOM POSITION
The hands must be outside the knees. Sumo
deadlifts are not allowed.
TOP POSITION
Starting at the floor, the barbell is lifted until hips
and knees reach full extension with the head and
shoulders behind the bar. The arms must be straight
throughout. No bouncing
MOVEMENT STANDARDSW 018
BOX JUMP OVERBOTTOM POSITION
Every rep must begin with both feet on the floor. A
two-foot takeoff is always required, and only the
athlete’s feet may touch the box.
TOP POSITION
There is no requirement to stand tall while on top of
the box. The athlete may jump on top of the box
using a two-foot landing and then jump or step off
to the other side, or the athlete may jump completely
over the box. If jumping over the box, the feet must
go over the box, not around it, and the athlete must
use a two-foot landing. Each rep is counted when
the athlete lands on the ground on the opposite side,
where they may begin their next rep.
ONE ARM OVERHEAD DUMBBELL WALKING LUNGES
BOTTOM POSITION
Each overhead walking lunge begins with one
dumbbell held overhead, one dumbbell held at the
shoulder, the feet together and the athlete standing
tall.
TOP POSITION
The trailing knee must make contact with the
ground at the bottom of each lunge. The weight
must remain in position for the duration of the
repetition. The rep ends with the dumbbells in
position and the athlete standing tall, with the hips
and knees fully extended. Stopping with both feet
together on the ground is not required, but both legs
must be fully extended if the athlete chooses to step
through at the top. The athlete must alternate which
foot leads for each rep. if at any point the dumbbell
on the weight – bearing arm is dropped or comes
into contact with the head or body , the athlete must
restart from the last section increment they crossed.
MOVEMENT STANDARDSW 018
BAR FACING BURPEESBOTTOM POSITION
The burpee must be performed perpendicular to and
facing the barbell. The athlete will jump the feet
back so that he or she is lying on the ground. The
athlete’s head cannot be over the barbell. The chest
and thighs touch the ground at the bottom.
On the way down, the athlete must jump both feet
back simultaneously. On the way up, the athlete
must jump both feet forward simultaneously.
TOP POSITION
The athlete must jump over the barbell from both
feet and land on both feet. Single-legged jumping or
stepping over is not permitted. The rep ends when
the athlete lands on both feet on the opposite side of
the barbell. Before starting the next rep, the athlete
must again be facing the barbell. Using a two-foot
jump, the feet must move back and forth together in
the burpee
HANG POWER CLEANBOTTOM POSITION
Each repetition must start from the hang, or any
repetition taken from the floor, must achieve a
deadlift lockout (hips and knees fully extended,
shoulders and head behind the bar) before re-dip-
ping to initiate the hang clean.
TOP POSITION
Each repetition finishes with the bar racked on the
shoulders and the elbows clearly in front of the bar
with the hips and knees fully extended. Power
cleaning the barbell from the ground in one conti-
nuous motion is not permitted.
SHOULDER TO OVER HEADBOTTOM POSITION
Each rep begins with the barbell on the shoulders
and finishes with the weight fully locked out overhe-
ad and over the middle of the body.
TOP POSITION
A shoulder press, push press, push jerk or split jerk
may be used, as long as the elbow, shoulder, hips
and knees are fully extended, and the bar finishes
directly over the body with the feet in line.
RING MUSCLE UPSTARTING POSITION
In the muscle-up, you must begin with, or pass
through, a hang below the rings with arms fully
extended (with or without a ‘false grip’) and the feet
off the ground
TOP POSITION
The elbows must be fully locked out while suppor-
ting yourself above the rings. Kipping the muscle-up
is acceptable, but swings or rolls to support are not
permitted. If consecutive kipping muscle-ups are
performed, a change of direction below the rings is
required.
MOVEMENT STANDARDSW 018
PULL UPBOTTOM POSITION
This is a standard chin-over-bar pull-up. Dead hang,
kipping or butterfly pull-ups are allowed as long as
all the requirements are met. The arms must be fully
extended at the bottom, with the feet off the ground.
TOP POSITION
At the top, the chin must break the horizontal plane
of the bar.
DOUBLE UNDERThis is the standard double under in which the rope passes completely under the feet twice for each jump.
The rope must spin forward for the rep to count.
BIKERGOn the bikerg the monitor will be set to zero ant the athlete must reach the goal assigned before moving off
the equipment. The athlete can adjust the seat at any time but may not touch the monitor.
MOVEMENT STANDARDSW 018
DUMBBELL CLEAN AND JERKBOTTOM POSITION
Starting with the dumbbell on the floor, from there,
the athlete may perform a muscle clean, power
clean, squat clean or split clean, so long as the
dumbbell comes up and makes contact with the
shoulder before being lifted overhead
TOP POSITION
Once at the shoulder, the athlete may get the dumb-
bell overhead any way he chooses. Shoulder press,
push press, push jerk and split jerk are all permitted.
The non-working hand may not come into contact
with the body or the dumbbell while the dumbbell is
being lifted. Athletes may use two hands while
lowering the dumbbell between reps.
At the top, the arm, hips and knees must be fully
locked out with the dumbbell clearly over the middle
of the athlete’s body when viewed from profile. Once
the athlete has reached lockout, the repetition will
count. If a split jerk is performed, both feet must
return and be in line under the athlete’s body while
the dumbbell is locked out overhead. Reps must be
alternated.
MOVEMENT STANDARDSW 018
LATERAL BURPEES
BOTTOM POSITION
Each burpee must be performed laterally to the
barbell. The chest and thighs touch the ground at
the bottom.
The athlete will jump the feet back so that he or she
is lying on the ground. On the way down, the athlete
must jump both feet back simultaneously. On the
way up, the athlete must jump both feet forward
simultaneously.
TOP POSITION
The athlete must jump over the barbell from both
feet and land on both feet. Single-legged jumping or
stepping over is not permitted. The rep ends when
the athlete lands on both feet on the opposite side of
the barbell. Before starting the next rep, the athlete
must again be facing the barbell. Using a two-foot
jump, the feet must move back and forth together in
the burpee
ROWERThe athlete can adjust the damper and the pedals. When the wod is finished the athlete must stop rowing.
