M a d e e a s y . . . Until Cordis developed its Complement Com- ponent Test Sets, it just wasn't possible for most laboratories to measure the functional activity of complement components. Technologists had to cope with difficult and complicated on-site preparation of components or use radial im- munodiffusion tests, which measure only the presence of complement components and not the activity.

Now Cordis Complement Component Test Sets make it practical to perform assays for all 9 components in your own laboratory. These sets offer everything you need for accurate, functional analysis by hemolytic assay. All elements are standardized for optimum specificity and sensi- tivity.

Cordis Complement Component Test Sets in- clude component reagents, stable cellular inter- mediates, buffers and complete, easy-to-follow instructions. Cordis also offers all laboratory equipment and supplies required for com- plement assay work. For more information on the Cordis Complement Component Test Sets, fill out and mail the coupon or call our toll-free "800" number.

a n d e v e n e a s i e r You can send specimens to the Cordis Comple- ment Reference Service for analysis by our highly-trained staff. We can assay for whole complement, for any or all complement com- ponents and for 2 complement component inactivators. Assays .are performed either in tubes or microtiter plates as you specify. Results are airmailed to you (telephoned on request) within 3 working days after we receive the specimen. We supply a postage-paid insulated mailing carton, specimen vials, report forms and instructions.

THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO LOOK AT R.I.D.

IMMUNO-PLATE°IIITESTS GIVE YOU IN ONE PLATE.

BOTH

End-point or measured-time. Now there's a one-plate radial immunodiffusion system that lets you run both.

Three different reading times, too. 48-hour precision. 16-18 hour overnight. Even 4-hour star.

Two different technics plus three-speed flexibility makes a big difference in testing convenience. Now you can use a single test system that does the job of two. Plus you get 4-hour test capability for stat orders or screening purposes.

And to make it even easier, our new test system lets you forget time-consuming serum dilutions. For major tests within normal adult working ranges, they're simply not required.

The Immuno-Plate flf immunodiffusion system is offered in a broad range of serum protein tests. All with two-technic, three-speed adaptability. All in a convenient six-well plate that reduces waste.

No matter how good you think your present test is, you'll have to agree ours is one better. Maybe two.

Talk to your Hyland representative for all the details. Directions for use are provided in each package. These directions should be read and understood before using. Particular attention should be paid to all warnings and precautions. Should you have any cluestions;call your Hyland representative or call toll-free (800) 854-3235. In Alaska, California, Canada and Hawaii call (714) 540-5000.

The main point is that our unique design makes the Bio/Physics Cytograf and Cytofluorograf clog-resistant and self- cleaning. Unlike conventional counters, our instruments have no "sticking point" in their cell flow systems. Consequently, there is no longer any need to sacrifice resolution to prevent clogging. Each cell sample enters the flow chamber through the center of a laminar sheath of water. The water surrounds the sample and contains it without mixing. As the stream-within-a-stream passes through the flow chamber, the (outer) water con- stricts the (inner) sample, narrowing it to just 30/~ and accelerating its flow. Thus, the cells pass single-file through the 20/1. thickness of a focused laser beam, at a rate of about 150,000 cells per minute. Whether you're taking a routine cell count or performing an exacting analysis such as DNA per cell distribution, Bio/Physics instruments offer you high resolution, without aggravating interruptions of flow. There are many other advantages we could point out about our counters. But we'd rather let you discover them. By seeing one of our instruments in action, and getting more information. Send today for our helpful guide to counting, sizing, differentiating, characterizing and measuring cell constit- uents. Bio/Physics Systems, Inc., Baldwin Place Road, Mahopac, New York 10541. IW, I, AI' I|IIG I"ttll Now-Any laboratory can deliver results within hours

In t roduc ing. . . a specific test for human erythropoietin (ESF) which provides de- finitive results 50 TIMES FASTER than bioassay methods. JCL Clinical Research Corporation has developed a fast, simple immunochemical test, utilizing the prin- ciple of hemagglutination-inhibition (HAl), which has made it possible to assay ery- thropoietin levels in almost all clinical laboratories. 1,2 The usefulness of ESF quantitation has previously been limited by the cumbersome, time consuming and expensive bioassay methods available for carrying out such determinations. On the other hand, the new HAl test for human erythropoietin is relatively simple, can be performed in a short period of time, is reproducible, economical and sufficiently sensitive to detect extremely small dif- ferences.

The level of plasma or serum erythro- poietin offers a reliable means of classi- fying diseases of the red blood cell. 3,4

count on Behring's RID End Point System! With Behring Diagnostics' end point system you may be assured of obtaining the most accurate and reproducible radial immunodif- fusion measurement available. Based on the t e c h n i q u e of M a n c i n i , C a r b o n a r a and Heremans 1, Protein antigens diffuse to end point and no further. Neither do they stop short of accuracy. Furthermore, precipit in rings can be read at your convenience. At 6 hours an early read- out may be obtained for such determinat ions as IgG and IgA. Once end point is reached precipit in rings remain s tab le i nde f i n i t e l y under p rope r s torage. With accuracy and stabil ity such as this, econ- omy and convenience can be yours. As a t ime and money saver, ful l-plate usabil ity does not require that all wells be fi l led at once.

For end point protein quantitation, 30 differ- ent plates are available. This is the widest selection you wil l find and it offers determina- tions for which Behring Diagnostics is the only commercial source. I M a n c i n i , G., C a r b o n a r a , A.
