INTRODUCTION

As someone who is not originally from Oregon I find it hard to situate myself with the nearest landmarks. To familiarize myself with the numerous Mountains in the Pacific Northwest I decided to give a little tour of the local Mountains in Oregon and Washington.

Mount Hood

MOUNT HOOD

• Mount Hood is a stratovolcano (a volcano built of of alternate layers of ash and lava)

• Last eruption: 1866

• Mount Hood elevation is 11,250 feet

• Mount Jefferson is another stratovolcano

• It is the second highest mountain in Oregon.

• The last time it eruption was in 950 AD

• Mount Thielsen is also known as Big Cowhorn

• It is an extinct shield volcano

• Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano located in Skamania County, Washington

• It is 96 miles south of Seattle, Washington, and 50 miles northeast of Portland, Oregon.

• Its last big eruption was in 1980

• Elevation is 8,366 feet
