Study area bisected by major ridge of Mt Victoria running ▫approximately north/south. Includes parts of two hydrological and visual catchment areas with the ridge of Mt Victoria in betweenNorthwest facing slopes of Mt Victoria, slope downward to Te ▫Aro and Central CityEast and south facing slopes of Hataitai slope downward to ▫Evans BayStudy area includes transect across different landform types ▫and areas of changing relief: bays, flat valleys, steep side slopes and ridge lines Significant unbuilt area of Town Belt on steeper topography ▫Sports fields in Hataitai Park are on constructed terraces ▫stepping down below Alexander Road to Ruahine Street, indicating that Town Belt is, in part, highly modified landscape.Hataitai village is situated on valley floor between ridges. ▫

Earthquake hazard areas correspond to old stream beds and ▫run along Dufferin Street and parallel to Wellington Road through Kilbirnie ParkFlood hazard areas include Basin Reserve and the eastern and ▫western areas of Kilbirnie Park.
