Our Community The Snoqualmie Valley School District is located in the beautiful Cascade Mountain foothills of Washington State, about 30 miles east of Seattle. The District spans more than 400 square miles, serving families in North Bend, Snoqualmie, Fall City, and surrounding areas in King County. Our large geographic area encompasses a community with diverse interests and attributes, ranging from new residents on Snoqualmie Ridge employed at nearby technology companies, to rural farmers on acreage in the Fall City area, to families in North Bend who’ve seen generations attend our schools. The School District offers quality public education to approximately 6,600 students in 9 schools— one high school (grades 9-12), two middle schools (6-8), five elementary schools (P-5), and an alternative school (6-12)—plus a Mount Si High School Online Program (9-12) and Parent Partnership Program to support families who choose to school their (K-12) kids at home.

Our School Mount Si High School (MSHS) is the sole comprehensive high school in the Snoqualmie Valley School District, serving approximately 1,684 students in grades 9-12. The school began in 1945 when three school districts were consolidated into one. Today, Mount Si High School offers a safe, positive learning environment that benefits from strong parental involvement and local support as the focal point of our community. Our school offers a comprehensive program to inspire learning and challenge students as they prepare for college, 21st Century careers and citizenship. Students have access to rigorous college preparatory curriculum, exceptional career technical education programs, extensive technology, plus an array of elective classes and extracurricular activities to expand their skills and interests.

For five consecutive years, the National College Board has named the Snoqualmie Valley School District to its AP District Honor Roll — for increasing access to Advanced Placement (AP) coursework while increasing student performance on rigorous AP exams. SVSD (and MSHS specifically) is the ONLY school district in Washington State, and 1 of only 6 districts in the nation, to achieve this five years in a row!

Mount Si High School was named on the U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools list, earning Silver Medals among the top high schools nationwide, in 2015, 2014 and 2013.

Academic Programs

More students are taking more Advanced Placement (AP) college-prep classes than ever. 130 Mount Si students were named 2015 AP Scholars for earning high scores on multiple AP exams the previous spring! The number of students recognized for this achievement continues to rise each year — with 120 scholars named in 2014, 100 in 2013, 58 in 2012, and 29 in 2011. Currently, Mount Si High School offers 18 college-level AP courses, plus 15 AP subjects are available through the Mount Si Online Program. This fall, student enrollment filled 779 seats in AP classes with many students taking multiple AP subjects at once.

The Mount Si Online Program, established in 2010, offers online opportunities and more than a hundred accredited classes to meet the changing learning needs of students. A certificated teacher coordinates the program and offers onsite support.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) exemplifies the intentional synthesis of technical knowledge, traditional academics, and 21st Century skills. Culinary Arts, Construction Trades, Sports Medicine, Game Design, Robotics, Digital Media, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, and Horticulture are just a few of the options students may explore at Mount Si.

Enhanced STEM programming provides a model for integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) instruction in preparation for 21st Century careers. Some of the STEM-focused courses include: Introduction to Computer Science and AP Computer Science, The Big History Project, Introduction to Engineering Design I & II (Project Lead the Way) and AP Human Geography.

Mount Si’s Freshman Campus opened in 2013 to offer extra support to all 9th graders to help ensure their successful transition to high school, expand STEM education, and alleviate crowding on the main campus.

SAT, ACT Scores: MSHS Students Compared to State, National Averages

MSHS has seen an increase in the number of students electing to take rigorous SAT and ACT national college entrance exams. Also, all students take either the PSAT or ASVAB exams their junior year. Mount Si High School’s average SAT and ACT scores continue to exceed state (WA) and national (NA) averages.

2015 SAT scores are on a scale of 200-800: SAT Critical Reading: MSHS: 557; compared to WA: 502 and NA: 495 SAT Writing: MSHS: 535; compared to WA: 484 and NA: 484 SAT Math: MSHS: 560; compared to WA: 510 and NA: 511

2015 ACT Composite scores are on a scale of 1-32: MSHS: 25.2; compared to WA: 22.4 and NA: 21.0. Composite ACT scores combine English, math, reading and science subtests.

For the first time in Washington State history, Mount Si High School closed out the state Public Forum Debate competition, earning 1st and 2nd places.

Student Achievement

Students are active participants in their education. Working with counselors, students are exposed to college, career, social and emotional guidance lessons which help them navigate high school and prepare for their post-secondary goals after graduation.

6 MSHS Class of 2016 seniors are National Merit Scholars. Two are National Merit semifinalists (among the top-scoring 1% of students in the nation) and four are commended scholars based on the PSAT exam they took in the spring of 2015.

MSHS students earned 2,800+ college credits last year.

$15.3 million in scholarships for academic achievement, athletic skills, and community service were awarded to Class of 2015 students.

2 debate teams placed 1st and 2nd at the 2015 state competition.

Mount Si Jazz performed among the nation’s top 15 high school jazz bands at the 2015 & 2014 Essentially Ellington Jazz Festivals in NYC.

The Class of 2015 comprised the school’s largest group of graduates — 356 seniors (94.6%) graduated on time.

Upon high school graduation, 19 motivated seniors in the Running Start program also earned Associate Degrees from Bellevue College, with enough credits for junior-year status in college — the most AA degrees earned from any King County high school!

Approximately 77% of the Class of 2015 shared plans to attend a college, university, or vocational-technical institute after graduation. The remainder had plans to enter military service or the work force.

Mount Si High School Campus Activities

Mount Si High School also offers a wide variety of extra-curricular options that allow students to try new activities, learn teamwork, cultivate friendships and discover their individual interests — which can impact their life choices well beyond high school. Opportunities include, but are not limited to:

World language programs offer Spanish, French, German & American Sign Language classes. Student exchange and group travel study opportunities foster global understanding and friend-ships in Germany, Peru, South Korea, Japan and via a soccer team exchange with Great Britain. Mount Si families have opportunities to host students from around the world.

Students also have 19 sports options as part of the KingCo 4A League. Mount Si athletes frequently participate in state tournaments and playoffs, and many earn college scholarships.

34 student-initiated and student-run after-school clubs at Mount Si High School appeal to a broad range of interests. Many clubs are actively involved in community service and have won regional, state and national recognition for their contributions to our community.

Our award-winning Debate Team is bringing national recognition for our students’ abilities.

Nationally-recognized Performing Arts and Fine Arts programs help students explore their creativity and showcase their talents, often earning Mount Si top honors at music festivals.
