* Call to Worship: Jesus, we call out to You for answers to all our questions about You and Your works.

We bless You for the spiritual renewal You give us as our shepherd. Christ has reassured us that we are not alone and to listen to His voice because He knows us.

As long as we follow the Lord, we will be provided with eternal life and be protected so that we will never perish. Let us praise God, who is greater than all,

because no one can snatch us out of the Father’s hand. Hallelujah, for the blessing of being a disciple of Christ, the good shepherd, and for always

being in God’s unchanging hand.

* Evocation (in unison)

Holy Spirit, help us to proclaim Christ as the good Shepherd with all His blessings. Christ reassures us that we are not abandoned or alone but we are protected and provided for. Thank you, Lord, that we have eternal security, a lasting hope and

your guidance to prevent spiritual lostness. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

But now I’m found Was blind

But now I see

No, Not One! There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus,

No, not one! No, not one! None else could heal all our soul’s diseases,

No, not one! No, not one!

Jesus knows all about our struggles, He will guide till the day is done;T

here’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No, not one! No, not one!

No friend like Him is so high and holy, No, not one! No, not one!

And yet no friend is so meek and lowly, No, not one! No, not one!

There’s not an hour that He is not near us, No, not one! No, not one!

No night so dark but His love can cheer us, No, not one! No, not one!

Did ever saint find this Friend forsake him? No, not one! No, not one!

Or sinner find that He would not take him? No, not one! No, not one!

Was e’er a gift like the Savior given? No, not one! No, not one!

Will He refuse us a home in heaven? No, not one! No, not one!

We Exalt Thee I love You, Lord, and I lift my voice To worship You; O my soul rejoice

Take joy, my King, in what You hear Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear

We exalt Thee, we exalt Thee, We exalt Thee, oh Lord We exalt Thee, we exalt Thee, We exalt Thee, oh Lord

Scripture: John 10:22-30

22 Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. 24 The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”

25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

Spiritual Growth Challenge April 2016: Renewal

Week 3 – Practice Dates: April 17th – April 23rd Text: “…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31, NIV)

Thought: Depending on what translation you read, the word “hope” may be substituted for the word “wait” which may be substituted for the word “trust.” No matter which word you use, “hoping” in the Lord, “waiting” on the Lord, or “trusting” in the Lord--each can become challenging at times. When looking up the definition of the words “hope” and “trust,” it becomes apparent that both are interchangeable with the word faith. But what does “waiting” have to do with trusting, hoping and having faith? Well, it is a lot easier to wait when one has faith and when one has hope and when one trusts. This passage assures us that hoping, trusting or waiting on the Lord is the key to the renewal of our strength (a word also synonymous with power). It is an opportunity for us to pause and rest in preparation for the work ahead – the living of life. By trusting, hoping in, and waiting on the Lord we are sure to be equipped to succeed. Imagine running and not becoming weary, or walking and not becoming faint. These notions speak to the endurance and stamina granted us by the power of the Holy Spirit, through Christ Jesus, when we are faithful. Eagles are powerful and graceful creatures that soar high above the earth with vantage points that we can only imagine. Just as those exiled may have grown exhausted and tired in exile, so may we become weary during our plight on this earth. Still, in this moving passage, the prophet reminds them --as he does us-- that God will give needed strength in abundant supply. Suffice it to say that this text is an appeal to trust God.

Task: Contemplation • Note a time in your life when it was easy to trust in the Lord. Then note a time in your life when it was not as easy to trust in the Lord. Consider for yourself the difference between the two. What can you do to trust more during the difficult times? • On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your strength these days? Are you in need of some renewal? If so, are you willing to wait on the Lord? If not, why not? • Can you remember a time in your life when you were able to run and not get weary AND walk and not get faint? What were the circumstances? These days, have you been feeling weary and likely to faint? If so, why is that the case? What does your faith checkup reveal? • Have you ever had the experience in your life when you soared like an eagle? What was that like for you? How long did it last? What can you do to achieve that level of living once again?

A Time to Pray: Father God, I bless your Holy name. You are wonderful and marvelous. You are awesome and spectacular. I am so privileged and favored to be loved by you. Thank you, Lord. It is truly an honor to serve you. As you know, heavenly Father, there are time in my life when I grow weary and even times when I feel faint. It is my humble prayer that you will continue to strengthen and empower me, Lord God. Give me hope that will sustain me. Grant me the will to wait on you; grow and develop in me the fruit of the Spirit so that I may be patient. Help make my trust in you unwavering. Lord God, as I live the life you have given me, may my living be pleasing to you and may I soar like an eagle as I do my part to live in your will, grow your church, and build your Kingdom. May thy will be done through me, on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
