Thanksgiving Eve Worship On Thanksgiving Eve, November 27 we will gather for a shared worship service with Holy Trinity and Luther Memorial at 7:00 p.m. at Luther Memorial Church (2840 S. 84th St.). A pie social will follow worship! For those who prefer a daytime event -- King of Glory (4330 S. 84th St.) is hosting a Thanks-giving Eve (November 27) service preceded by lunch at 11:30 a.m. and the service at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome and there is a free will donation for lunch.

Singing and Fellowship Luther Memorial Church will be hosting a singing event for the residents at Village of Manor Park on No-vember 9 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., followed by fellowship, bakery and beverages back at Luther Memorial Church. Please plan on joining your voices to bring a joyful noise to all. We’ll meet at the Maplewood entrance of Village at Manor Park (3023 S. 84th St.). We will be singing and providing some entertainment for an hour of fun and enjoyment (there’ll be

copies of fall songs to sing). All are invited to attend our (Luther Memorial) 4:00 p.m. church service with more fellowship afterwards. This invitation includes King of Glory, Mt. Hope and Holy Trinity providing an opportu-nity to get to know each other better. Hope to see you there!

This is Christ’s Church. There is a place for you here. We are the church that shares a living, daring, confidence in God’s grace. Liberated by our faith, we embrace you as a whole person--questions, complexities and all. Join us as we do God’s work in Christ’s name for the life of the world.

Were you at the Mystery Dinner Thea-ter October 12th? Pat and Bill Kaiser directed and starred in a delightful, funny mystery play, along with Bonnie Jean Barczak, Pastor Michael (who played an outstandingly inept pastor), Eric Hertzfeldt and two community members, with Donna Jonasen on the piano. We had a wonderful evening of fun, food and fellowship, with a large turnout of members of all four

―Area Strategy Team‖ churches and many people from the community. I hope you’ll support and enjoy the other church’s partnership events: November 9, 2019 2:30 p.m. Sing-a-Long at Village at Manor Park followed by treats and fellowship at Luther Memorial (2840 S. 84th St.). These are all famil-iar songs that the ―chorus‖ and residents alike will enjoy. If you don’t sing, come join the

audience, and treats afterwards. January 25, 2020 Comedy Improv at King of Glory (4330 S. 84th St.), with pizza baked in their new bread oven February 15, 2020 Chili Cook-Off at Holy Trinity (11709 W. Cleveland Ave.) Save the dates and join the fun! Cathy Hinrichs, Chair, Ministries Board

For Thanksgiving this year, we like to give out Thanksgiving Boxes to our Hope Pantry families. Rather than try to collect individual food items, we are asking for a donation of $40.00 per box which we estimate will feed a family of 4. There is a sample basket in the Fireside Room along with envelopes and a box to put your

donations. Our goal is to collect enough money to provide 150 Thanksgiving Boxes. All donations are needed by Sunday, November 17 so boxes can be assem-bled and distributed on Saturday, Novem-ber 23. Most of us are blessed to be able to afford a Thanksgiving meal to share with our loved

ones. Please consider helping us share those blessings with our less fortunate neighbors. As always, we are grateful for your support. Linda Helminski Hope Pantry Coordinator

Youth: Sunday School | Confirmation | High School

Here are the dates for the rest of the year for both Sunday School and Confirmation: Sunday, November 10 Sunday, November 24 Sunday, December 8 Sunday, December 22

We are still accepting kids for both confirmation and Sunday school (see registration form on page 9). Confirmation 6th-8th Grade Confirmation kids

worshiped and served lunch at Hephatha on Sunday, September 22. Confirmation began Sunday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m. It will run every other week after Sunday worship. Lunch will be served at 11:00 a.m. and class will begin shortly after lunch is served. We will continue doing our highs and lows along with using the Faith Based curriculum. Sunday School 3K-5th Grade Sunday School will be offered concurrently with 9:30 a.m. worship. Children can begin with their families in worship. After the Children's Message, they will be accompanied downstairs to Sunday School. Each month will focus on a new bible story. We will engage the children with a rotation of activities to help them explore the meaning of each story. We will meet every other week, giving children and their teachers the opportunity to worship with the rest of the community on alternating weeks.

High School Youth: Brewing the Faith 9-12th Grade I want to remind any high-school youth (grades 9-12) that they are always welcome at Brewing the Faith. We gather on the first and third Sunday evening, 6:30-9:00 p.m., in the youth room downstairs in the Fellow-ship Hall. It’s a very informal gathering, where we chat, play games, eat pizza, and drink shakes and smoothies. We also have fully-stocked coffee bar if you always wanted to try that coffee concoction. Stop by, bring a friend, and enjoy some fellowship! Eric Hertzfeldt

Mount Hope has been blessed with a wonderful team of people to thoughtfully decide the

future of our outreach efforts for Mount Hope. After three years of condensing and rightsizing for our congregation, we are dividing up and reassigning roles. I will be stepping back to take care of family issues. Please consider how YOU can help in the areas above. Procedures are written out and there are instructions to follow for the Quilt weekend. Forms for gathering help for Hepatha are also available as well as past people who have served. Contact Kathy Zingsheim at kzing@ wi.rr.com or 414-698-5031 with offers of help or questions. Hope Closet

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality”. —Romans 12:11-13 We are entering a time of discomfort at Mt. Hope. We don’t know what lies ahead. As Jeff Sikich said during wor-ship on October 20, ―It is like entering a dark room.‖ This can be unsettling and scary. But Jeff also spoke about the need to trust God and move forward. We do know what we are called to do. We are to be joyful, patient, and faithful. And we are to share with those who are in need. On October 17, we served 22 families at the Hope Closet and Hope Pantry in 4 short hours. That means that we distributed food and clothing for over 100 people in one evening. The good news is—we did it! But the need is growing. We have received 10 new family referrals this fall from the WAWM School District just in the months of September

and October. Here are some ways you can help right now: Sponsor a Thanks-

giving food box for a family of four ($40).

Donate Christmas toys/gifts for children during the months of Novem-ber and December..

Consider helping out at the Hope Closet and Pantry during the month of December – a particularly busy time.

Donate diapers and wipes for our littlest Hope Closet members.

Pray for God’s continuing guidance as we move forward with our ministry.

God has continued to let us know that this is a ministry we should be doing by opening new doors whenever we are feeling discouraged. If you ever want to hear about some miraculous ―coincidences‖, just ask one of the Hope Closet/Pantry volunteers about ―God moments.‖ You will be amazed!

Christmas Toys It is not too early to think about Christmas toy donations. On November 10, we’ll begin collecting toys and other gifts for the Hope Closet children. Here are some suggested items: Sports balls

(basketballs, soccer balls, etc.)

Nerf toys Nail kits for girls Hair straighteners Hair dryers Plastic construction

vehicles Baby dolls Lego-type building

sets

Page 6 THE CALLING

(We do not need stuffed animals or books at this time). Of course, you can always make a monetary donation to help purchase these items. Your gifts bring smiles to the faces of our Hope Closet parents when they realize they will have something to give their children on Christmas morning. Thank you in advance for blessing these families with your gifts! Donna Jonasen Coordinator 414-690-8371 [email protected]

The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving can be such a busy time. There is so much to prepare for. But in all of the busyness, I don’t want to lose sight of all that I am grateful for. So, here is my gratitude list: I am grateful that I have a home to go to and food to eat: All of our Hope Pan-try and Closet clients have experienced homelessness and the uncertainty that brings. Even when they do find housing,

they often continue to struggle with being able to fill basic needs. I am grateful for the Hope Pantry and Closet: Psalm 107:8-9 says ―give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.‖ To me the Hope Pantry and Closet reflects that love and goodness of God to thirsty and hungry people. It is such a blessing to be a part of this ministry.

I am grateful for the families we serve: It is a privilege to serve the families who come to us seeking help. But they are not just people seeking help. Many have become friends and are some of the most remarkable people I have had the pleasure to meet. I am grateful for the chance to help them transform their lives. But they have transformed mine as well. I am grateful for you: You not only support us financially and with

Hope Pantry

food and clothing donations, but your prayers and encourage-ment all make this work possible. I consider you my friends and partners in this ministry. It means the world to have people like you supporting us. Thanksgiving is still weeks away. But I am grateful every day for all of God’s blessings! Linda Helminski Hope Pantry Coordinator

Hello everyone! Thanks-giving is coming up and I am once again reminded how thankful, grateful and blessed I am ...just wanted to share with you the joys of this special day! Seems to me that lately Thanksgiving gets lost between Halloween and

Christmas, yet it is so im-portant to be aware and focused in the meaning of this holiday. So, I am sending out prayers and blessings to you all and once again want to thank you for the kind words you share with me about my articles. I enjoy writ-ing them and am glad you

enjoy you reading them! Every day is Thanksgiv-ing as far as I'm concerned so we can proceed with our lives and be joyful!! Blessings, Judi Hertzfeldt
