The recent Art Exhibition showcased our Visual Arts program. Mrs Shedley, Visual Arts teacher and parent volunteers spent many hours framing art work and setting up displays. It was lovely to see parents, children and staff taking time to enjoy the exhibition.

The Disco was a tremendous success with 217 children attending. Every Wednesday, over many weeks the student Disco Committee and parent, Nadine Caunt worked collaboratively to organize the event. The food was amazing and a good time was had by everyone.

Thank you to Nadine, Lily, Wajd, Amelia, Leila, Indiana, Oscar B, Addison, Alice and the P&C Committee.

Reporting to Parents - Semester 2

Teachers use a range of strategies to gather data on student achievement. They make a judgement aligned to the achievement standard for each learning area. If a student is at the expected achievement standard, it is a “C” grade or satisfactory achievement. Full details of grade descriptors are included in the explanatory notes in the student report. There should not be any surprises. Writing reports takes teachers many hours per student and I commend the teachers on their diligence and professionalism.

Semester 2 student reports for Kindergarten to Year 6 will be emailed to parents on Monday,16 December. When the reports are electronically sent, email recipients will receive an email containing a link that you will need to click on to open the report. You will need to download the report immediately, save the document and/or print the document. Discuss the report with your child. Email report links remain valid for 4 weeks only. If you do not receive a “report email” please contact the Front Office. Hard copies of student reports are not provided. Visual Arts

I have recently received some terrific news from the competition coordinators of the Royal Show Schools Art Competitions. Two of our junior students won places in the 'Poultry Art' competition for their delightful artworks. Ellie H. won second place in the Year 1/2 category for her painting titled 'Lucy the Lovely Hen'. Hazel G. won second place in the Year 3/4 category for her 'Feathery Turkey' paint-ing. Both girls are to be commended for their wonderful achievements in this competition, considering it attracts a large number of entries from many schools across the metropolitan area. Well done, Ellie and Hazel! I would like to thank all students who entered the Royal Show Schools Art Competitions for their creativity and effort.

The annual art exhibition, held last Thursday afternoon, was well received by students, parents, grand-parents and staff. It was a great opportunity to show the school community what students have been creating during visual arts lessons this year. It was also pleasing to see many parents taking photos of their children standing beside their artwork with smiling, proud faces.

I would like to sincerely thank two lovely parents, Gemma (Lina's Mum) and Megumi (Hayden's Mum), for helping me to set up the exhibition in the library and junior block wet area. I would also like to thank everyone for their appreciative comments about the work on display in the exhibition and for their sup-port of the visual arts program.

Community Event News

Information from Facebook for this worthwhile cause:

“Swanbourne Barracks are a big part of our local community. Mental health and suicide is a massive

problem for service people after they leave the forces and if you talk to any of them they are all touched

in some way by friends with these issues.

On Sunday, 8th

December we are at The Village Pantry and Deli Chicchi in Mount Claremont and will be holding a fund raising day for their charity The Wandering Warriors. All staff are working for free and we will provide pizza and meals for sale that day, every cent will go to these guys who lend their life’s to our country. There will be veterans and serving soldiers helping serve food and they will hold a silent auction of SAS memorabilia. Please come along from 4.00pm that day, have a feed, have a glass of wine with BYO and let’s show our appreciation.

Let’s raise some money for them!”
