Motor Supply Cable Terms

• Motor: A device that converts electrical or other energy into mechanical energy or imparts motion.

• Drive: A device used to control and synchronize motor speeds.

• Variable Frequency Drives (VFD): Control the speed of a motor. Used to improve efficiency, energy savings, and to optimize the motor-driven process.

• Encoder / Resolver: Used in conjunction with a servo motor/drive to determine the speed, position, and direction of shaft rotation in order to achieve more accuracy.
