Range of UseModel series MOK ... for devices with pilot flame and solidfuels without condensate drain with minimum opening fornegative-pressure flue gas systems.Model series MOK ... AD for devices without pilot flame, without condensate drain, metallic sealed for negative-pressure flue gas systems.

WarningOnly the model MOK … (with minimum opening) mustbe used in flue gas systems with solid fuel boilers anddevices with pilot flame. In the case of solid fuel fire -places without electric control, only the model MOK …"currentless open" (actuator STA 6) must be used. Thestandard actuator "STA 2 (S1)" must only be used in fireplaces that can be shut down quickly and are electronically controlled - e.g. oil or gas fan burners.

WarningMotor-controlled flue gas dampers must only be used indry rooms. Current laws, standards, stipulations and guidelines have to be followed. The installation must onlybe conducted by trained professionals. We advise you tocontact your responsible building control before installation. Before beginning the installation, the systemhas to be turned off and disconnected from voltage.

InstallationInstallation PlaceThe device is installed in the flue gas pipe between theflue outlet of the fireplace and the chimney connection. Please see the actuator's installation instructions for themax. ambient temperature. The actuator has to be circulated by air and must not be exposed to dammed upheat (e.g. in cavities). Installation PositionThe flue gas damper can be installed in horizontal, diagonal or vertical flue gas pipes. The damper axis has tobe aligned at an angle of 3° to 5° to the horizontal (see figure).

InstallationThe casings of the flue gas dampers are pluggable with a wide and a narrow end. The flue gas damper can be directly inserted into the flue gas pipe during the latter'sinstallation. When retrofitting at a later point, a part of theconnection pipe has to be uninstalled at the installationplace. Considering the plug direction, a part of the uninstalled flue gas pipe corresponding to the effective

length of the flue gas damper has to be cut off. Afterwards theflue gas damper is installed with the remaining pipe piece. FasteningRegardless of the overall size of the flue gas damper, it is necessary to check if it needs additional fastening, e.g. withbrackets and clamps. Flue gas dampers have to be protectedagainst distortion on-site.InsulationIf the flue gas pipe is insulated, please keep the minimum distance of 100 mm to the motor holder plate, butterfly valvestem and motor. Free air circulation has to be ensured. Electric ConnectionPlease see the installation instructions of the corresponding actuator for the description of the electric connection.

Start-UpBefore the system is handed over, the entire flue gas evacuation and functioning of the flue gas damper has to be tested. Please make sure that the burner only starts up whenthe flue gas damper has freed up at least 90% of the pipe cross section and the end switch of the actuator is inter -connected. The switch's operation can be tested by measuringthe voltage.

For actuator STA 2 (S1) this means:If the wiring is correct, there is no voltage on clamp 3 when theflue gas damper is closed. When the system is switched on,first the damper has to open and activate the end switch. Nowthere has to be voltage on clamp 3.Please see the corresponding installation instructions for theexact clamp and cable laying for this and all other actuators.

MaintenanceDuring the maintenance of the fireplace, but at least once ayear, the flawless operation of the flue gas damper and the fluegas evacuation has to be tested. If necessary, clean the casinginside and outside as well as the shut-off disc and the stem. The actuator is maintenance-free. Testing the end switch that isinstalled in the actuator is only possible when the switch cam isconnected to the butterfly valve stem.

Opening the Flue Gas Damper ManuallyIf the actuator fails or the if you want to test and clean the fluegas system, the shut-off disc can be moved from the outsidewith a setting pin and can be locked in the open position withthe locking lever. This closes the end switch, which makes itpossible to keep using the fireplace.

Accessories / Spare PartsActuators: “STA 2 (S1)“ standard motor, 1x not potential-free end switch

“STA 2 (S3)“ like STA 2 (S1) but with two additional potential-free end switches

WARNINGMotor-controlled flue dampers must only be installed indry spaces according to VDE 0100 (Association of German Electricians). Relevant laws, norms, stipulationsand guidelines must be followed. The installation mustonly be carried out by trained specialists. You shouldconsult the responsible expert before installation. Beforestarting installation, the system has to be switched offand voltage-free.

INSTALLATIONPlace of installationThe place of installation is in the connecting pipe betweenthe flue outlet of the fireplace and the chimney connec-tion. In cascade systems it is between boiler port andheader. The max. ambient temperature of the actuationdrive can be found in its installation instructions. The actuating drive must be in a draught and must not be exposed to trapped heat (e.g. in hollow spaces).Installation positionThe flue damper can be installed in connection pipes thatarea horizontal, tilted or vertical. The damper shaft has tobe aligned in an angle of 3 to 5° from the horizontal position (see figure).

InstallationThe casings of the flue dampers are pluggable with awide and narrow piece (not air flue-gas model MUK.../...)

according to DIN 1298. The flue damper can be installed into aflue gas connector when it is being assembled. For subsequentinstallation, a piece of the connection pipe is demounted at theselected installation position. Considering the direction of theplugging, a part of the flue pipe must be cut out according tothe effective length of the flue damper. After this, the flue dam-per is reinserted, together with the remaining piece of pipe. Inthe case of positive pressure systems and/or condensate accu-mulation, the joints have to be sealed accordingly.MountingRegardless of the size of the flue damper it is necessary tocheck whether it has to be secured additionally, e.g. with panelsor pipe clamps. The fitter has to secure the flue dampersagainst twisting.InsulationIf the flue pipe is insulated there has to be a minimum distanceof 100 millimetres to the motor holding plate, butterfly valvestem and motor. Free air circulation has to be ensured.Electrical connectionFor the description of the electrical connection, please see theinstallation instructions of the respective actuating drive.

START-UP / FUNCTIONAL TESTPrior to handing over the system, the entire flue gas ductingand functioning of the flue damper must be checked.According to DIN 4755, Section 3.4.2 (oil-firing) or DIN 4756,Sections 4.4.2.2 and 4.4.3.1 (gas-firing), it must be ensuredthat the burner is only started up if the flue dampers have released at least 90 % of the pipe diameter and the limit switchof the actuating drive is connected through. The functioning ofthe switch can be checked by measuring the voltage. For the actuating drives STA2(S1) and STA2(S3) this means:With proper wiring, there is no voltage on clamp 3 when thedisc is closed. If the system is started up, the damper has toopen first and activate the limit switch. Now there must be voltage on clamp 3. Testing the limit switch is only possiblewhen the actuating drive is installed (coupling of motor switchcam with the butterfly valve stem). Please see the installation instructions for these and all otheractuatingdrives for the exact clamp and cable configuration.

MAINTENANCEDuring maintenance of the fireplace, but at least once a year, the faultfree functioning of the flue damper and the flue gasevacuation must be checked. If required, the inside and outsideof the flue damper casing, the lock disc and the shaft should becleaned. In case of the models MUK…D and MUK…/… (airflue-gas system) especially, be careful not to damage thesprayed sealing lip with unsuitable tools. The actuating drive ismaintenance-free.

OPENING THE FLUE DAMPER MANUALYIn case of failure of the actuating drive, or to check and cleanthe flue gas system, the lock disc can be activated from the outside with an actuating pin and locked into an open positionwith the fixing lever. With this, the limit switch is closed, thusallowing continued operation of the fireplace (not in case of airflue-gas systems model MUK…/…).
