    1. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

    1.1. Purpose

    MOTOPLYR is a Set Top Box (STB) Applicationthat executes on the Video over IP (VIP) platform. MOTOPLYRapplication is used to exercise all the features in the hardware by implementing features layered on top of the DCG HALallowing wide functional coverage. Additionally, the focus is more on system integration testing of device drivers rather thanon the performance or unit testing.

    This document is intended for T-Online Germany.

    A TV with HDMI, SCART, Composite and S-Video input.

    o Note: currently SCART output mode defaults to composite

    A VCR with S-Video, SCART and Composite input for testing CGMS-A and Macrovision.

    Minimum of Three Ethernet cables, 2 USBs, HDMI, SCART, Composite and S-Video cables. A USB bulk file device with sufficient space to contain testers AV test files, updated boot loaders and also

    enough space to hold the generated test logs. Minimum recommended size is 256 MB. A USB hard diskmay respond quicker than a flash device.

    The application will execute on VIP1616E STB.

    2.2. Software: Both tftp and DHCP services must be available so that the MOTOPLYR application can be downloaded

    to the STB via Netboot. These services can be provided by either Windows XP or Linux OperatingSystems.

    Motorola provides an application installer for Windows XP to configure these two services on a PC. Thisinstaller will install tftp, DHCP and NK.bin on the host PC.

    Configure the DHCP server IP address to 192.168.1.10.

    A VLC Media Player is to be installed on the PC.

    3. TEST LOGS:The test logs are generated in the following path in the USB:

    MOTOPLYR\LOG\.log

    where nn is a number ranging from 01 to 99. For every Reset of the same STB this number gets incremented.

    Note:USB needs to be connected for the logs to be generated.

    4. USER INTERFACE

    4.1. General Navigation:The menu system is navigable with both front panel and Remote Control keys. The back key is used to return to

    previous menu and also for deleting characters in text boxes. Use the down and up arrow (in Front Panel/RCU) tomove vertically within the screen and left and right arrow (in Front Panel/RCU) to move horizontally within ascreen. Enter numbers using the RCU number keys.

    4.2. Test Status:There is a Pop up screen for Pass/Fail which will be displayed only if Test prompt check box is enabled in theConfiguration screen. This pop up screen helps in determining the test result for every feature being tested. Whenever BACK key is pressed a this pop up appears with Pass, Fail and Cancel buttons and prompts user forthe result of the Test. Selecting the appropriate button will then display the result on the respective Feature button inthe System screen as either P or F to indicate status of testing for that particular screen. The overall test resultwill appear on the Diagnostics button in the MOTOPLYR Main screen.

    The pop up dialog will appear when neither Pass nor Fail is checked in a test screen as a reminder to specify the testresult status. The pop up dialog will not appear if either Pass or Fail is checked or Test Status Prompt is not

    checked in the Configuration screen. Selecting cancel will allow screen exit without specifying test status. Thisapplies to all test screens in MOTOPLYR.

    4.3. Main Test Menu:4.3.1. Description:

    This is the first screen that is seen when MOTOPLYR is launched. This contains a button named Diagnostics thetitle of this screen is MOTOPLYR. The rest of the screen follows the same layout as given below:

    4.3.2. Navigation:

    Use the "OK" key to enter into the Diagnostics Screen.

    4.3.3. Usage Notes:This screen does not have any controls on it. It only displays a button named Diagnostics which is the entry pointto the Test application. Every screen needs to be traversed through this screen. For Test status handling refer toSection 4.2.

    4.4. System Screen:

    4.4.1. Description:The system screen contains all the features of the STB that can be tested in the form of buttons. The various buttonsthat will be displayed on the screen are:

    i. System Info.

    ii. Indicator Test.

    iii. Network Test.

    4.5. System Info Screen:

    4.5.1. Description:The System Info screen displays the STB information. The information that is displayed are the Device Name,Model number, GUID, Discovery Server, MOTOPLYR Version, HDD temperature, FAN Speed, Bootloader

    version and so on. This will vary according to the model of STB connected. It also contains a Pass and Fail checkbox on the title bar and DRAM test status. In the next screen test status of DRAM 0 and DRAM 1 can be found..The exact screen layout is given below:

    4.7.2. Navigation:

    i. Select Diagnostics -> Indicator Test -> Character Set

    4.7.3. Usage Notes:This screen contains certain pre-defined set of characters denoted with indexes ranging from 0 18. There are also

    two buttons Prev and Next to traverse through previous and next pages of the Character Set screen. When eitherPrev or Next is selected, the respective character set is displayed on the VFD. The character set shown on thescreen is what that is displayed on the VFD. For Test status handling refer to Section 4.2.

    4.8. All Indicators Screen:

    4.8.1. Description:All Indicators screen contains a checkbox named ON which will test the state of all the indicators on the STB. Thescreen also contains a Pass and Fail checkbox on the title bar. It highlights all the pixels on the VFD including thePOWER, HDD, LINK, RECORD and STANDBY indicators when turned ON and vice-versa when OFF. The exactlayout is given below.

    4.8.2. Navigation:

    4.8.3. Usage Notes:Use OK key to select the All Indicator button. The state of all the pixels on the VFD can be changed by checking

    and un-checking the ON check box. The state is set by selecting the SET button. For Test status handling referto Section 4.2.

    4.9. User Specified Screen:

    4.9.1. Description:The User Specified screen contains checkboxes, a virtual keypad and a SET button. It is used to check whether thecustomized text entered by the user is displayed on the VFD, also to check whether the Indicators can be toggled andreflect their state properly. The screen also contains a Pass and Fail check box on the title bar. The exact layout ofthe screen is given below.

    4.9.3. Usage Notes:Use OK key on the User specified screen to enter it. Check and uncheck the Power, HDD, Link , Record andStandby checkboxes using OK key and select the SET button to verify the state of the respective indicators onthe STB as ON and OFF. Also navigate in and out of the screen and observe the state of the checkboxes on the

    screen, it should hold the same state that was assigned to it when user navigated in /out of the screen. User canspecify his/her own text using the virtual keypad and observe the same being displayed on the VFD when the SETbutton is selected. For Test status handling refer to Section 4.2.

    4.10. Network Test:

    4.10.1. Description:The Network test screen contains Ping and Streaming buttons. The Ping screen basically tests the Networkfunctionality. It prompts the user to enter Target IP and Bytes to transfer and checks the Network connectivity ofSTB. It contains textboxes for the user to enter the IP address and the number of bytes to transfer. It also contains a

    button named PING which when pressed will give the network status. The screen also contains a Pass and Fail

    checkbox in the title bar. It gives the same output as the DOS Ping command. The IP Streaming screen willdisplay the audio/video streaming from IP through UDP. It contains a text box for the user to enter the UDP Portnumber and a button Stream to start streaming. It also contains a Pass and Fail check box in the title bar. The exactlayout of the screen is given below

    4.10.3.1. Ping:The user can verify Network connectivity by entering the IP address of Target and bytes to transfer using the RCUand then selecting the PING button. To go to the previous screen use BACK key by placing the focus on Ping

    button. For Test status handling refer to Section 4.2.

    Appropriate status messages are displayed on the screen. The different status messages and what they mean aregiven below:

    i. Ready Indicates the test has completed and the STB is on the network.

    ii. Input_Err Is displayed whenever any invalid input is entered by the user. For e.g.: Leave the Bytes totransfer text box blank and select PING.

    iii. Req_timeout Is displayed whenever it takes a longer time for the STB to establish a network connection dueto invalid Target IP or Bytes to transfer.

    For e.g.: Enter 255.255.255.255 for Target IP and Bytes to transfer as 21 and select PING.

    4.10.3.2. Streaming:

    The user verifies IP audio/video streaming by using this screen. The UDP port number needs to be entered in theUDP Port text box. The user needs to set up the VLC Player on the host PC before selecting the Stream button onthe screen:

    The VLC Player needs to be installed on the PC. Click on the VLC player and do the following:

    The user should Click File, and then choose Open File, Directory, or Disc, depending on which file needsto be streamed.

    The Stream output dialog box pops-up. Click the UDP box; fill in the IP address of the target to which theaudio/video file is to be streamed to. Leave the Port as 1234.Click the Play Locally check box if the videoneeds to be seen on the PC. Now click OK

    NOTE: The IP to be entered here is obtained from Host IP in the PING screen of the MOTOPLYRapplication (Diagnostics -> Network Test -> Ping).

    Click OK to start the Video Stream.

    Now after the above said VLC settings are done enter the UDP port number as 1234 using RCU into the UDPtest box and select the Stream button on the IP Streaming screen. The video that had been selected forstreaming through VLC will be displayed in the Preview Pane.

    4.11.1. Description:The Configuration screen contains the various configuration settings like the Video format, Audio Mute, Fancontrol, Macro vision CGMS-A and so-on.     The Config features are in the form of checkboxes, except the FAN option which is given as radio buttons. UseOK key to check and uncheck the checkboxes and radio buttons and the SET button to set the value. The outputof the Config screen can be verified by setting configurations on the Config screen and playing audio and video fileson the Audio-Video screen. Macro vision and CGMS- A are copy protection formats. There are four levels ofCGMS and if level-0, level-1 and level-2 are selected then user should be able to record the Audio-video file and if

    level-3 is selected, it should not allow user to record the Audio-video file. Each time user is able to select only onelevel of CGMS and then press SET. The FAN is verified by using a heat gun and increasing the temperature of theHDD and observing the Fan Speed in the System Info screen (MOTOPLYR Main Menu ->Diagnostics -> SystemInfo). It varies according to temperature and displays Zero Speed, Quarter Speed, Half Speed, Full Speedrespectively. For Test status handling refer to Section 4.2.

    4.12. Media Test:

    4.12.1. Description:Note: Do not remove USB while playing an Audio-Video file.

    The Audio-Video screen allows the user to select and play audio-video files from two list boxes which gets itscontents from the USB connected to the STB or from the Hard Disk. The play, pause, stop and audio-video fullscreen output is tested in this screen. It also contains a Pass and Fail check box on the title bar. For playing filesfrom Hard Disk, single partition is enough. If Hard Disk has two partitions and Audio-Video files are present in boththe partitions, then application will display files from the first partition. If the Motoplyr\AV folder is not found inthe first partition then application will display files from the second partition. If application finds Motoplyr\AVfolder as an empty folder then it will not search for the remaining partitions present in the Hard disk and Audio-video list box can be displayed as empty list box. User can see in the list box that Audio-Video files are listed inalphabetical order. The exact layout of the screen is given below:

    Click Picture key to enter picture screen. It displays the picture files (jp,bmp files) present in the USB connectedto the STB in the list box .Use OK to select the required picture file. The picture file selected should be displayed.

    Click Video key to enter the Audio-Video screen. It displays the media files present in the USB connected to theSTB in the two list boxes on the screen. Use OK to select the required media file. The media files selected playsand displays appropriate status message. Use MENU key to view video in full screen mode with the limitation thatonly the video on first screen can be viewed in full screen mode. Play/Pause and Stop video from the menu that popsup in full screen mode. To return to normal mode press MENU key again. Navigate through the list box by

    pressing up and down arrow keys in Frontpanel/RCU. Only one HD file can be played at a time in the Audio-videoscreen. The status messages indicate whether the audio/video is/can be played through status messages like PlaySuccessful and Play Unsuccessful. For Test status handling refer to Section 4.2.

    4.13. Test Pattern:

    4.13.1. Description:The Test pattern screen displays a pattern when clicked. It doesnt have any controls on it. The exact layout of thescreen is given below:

    4.15.3. Usage Notes:Use OK key to enter the initial screen and press OK once more on the Discovery server button to enter theConfig Update screen. The default URLs can be selected by pressing the OK key on the respective buttons and

    pressing the SET button to update the configuration. User can also specify his/her own URL by keying in text

    from the virtual keypad using the left, right ,up, down keys from Frontpanel/RCU to traverse through the keypad andpressing OK key to select the characters. For Test status handling refer to Section 4.2.

    4.16. USB Test:

    4.16.1. Description:Note: For some Pen drives, when INFORMATION button is pressed the application hangs. In that case, removethe USB and the application will come back to its normal form. Do not use that particular USB again.

    The USB screen checks the Write and Read operations of the USB connected to the STB. It contains a list boxwhich displays the USBs connected to the STB. The file sizes are also given in the form of buttons as Small,

    Medium and Large. There is also a Filesize textbox where the user can key in a file size (in kilobytes) of his/herchoice. There is a Start button which is used to start the test. It also contains a Pass and Fail check box on the titlebar. It also contains INFORMATION button which is used to display the properties of the USB which is attached toSTB. And the INFORMATION screen contains two buttons Prev and Next.When Next button is pressed, itdisplays the remaining properties of the USB. The exact layout of the screen is given below:

    4.16.2. Navigation:

    4.16.3. Usage Notes:Use OK key to enter the screen. Select the USB on which test needs to be performed from the list box using theOK key. Traverse through the list box using UP& DOWN arrow keys on frontpanel/RCU. Select the Filesizes using the OK key on the respective buttons (Small, Medium and Large on the screen) and select

    START button to start the test. User can also enter his/her own file sizes by keying in numbers from the RCU onthe File size text box. The File size is displayed in Kilobytes. The appropriate status messages are displayed likeWriting Data, Reading Data, and CRC Passed and so on. Then to get the properties of USB , select the USB fromthe list box by pressing OK .Then press INFORMATION button. Now user can see only 8 descriptorinformation of the USB. Then press Next button so that remaining descriptor information can be displayed. ForTest status handling refer to Section 4.2.

    4.17. Key Info:

    4.17.1. Description:This screen displays the key codes for the keys that user presses either using Front Panel or RCU. The Functionname, HEX Key code and Source are displayed for every key press where Function name is the name mapped toevery key on the RCU, HEX Key code is the Hexa-decimal key code and Source determines the source of the key

    press as either Front panel or RCU. It also contains a Pass and Fail check box on the title bar. The exact layout of thescreen is given below:

    4.18.2. Navigation:

    i. Select Diagnostics -> Update Bootloader

    4.18.3. Usage Notes:Note:The Boot loader file on USB device should be of .nb0 format.

    Note: For boot loader update, jumper JP1 should be present in the board.

    Use OK to select the required Bootloader from the list and press right arrow to set the focus to Update buttonthen press OK key to start the updation. Initially the Status will show Erasing Bootloader continued byUpdating Bootloader x % done where x denotes the amount of percentage completion followed by VerifyingBootloader and finally ends with Bootloader Update Successful. This can be verified by going to the System Infoscreen (MOTOPLYR Main Menu ->Diagnostics -> System Info) and observing the Bootloader version. This willnow show the updated Bootloader version. Initially this shows Unknown and when the Update Bootloaderscreen is entered for the first time the Status goes to Reading Bootloader version and displays the currentBootloader version. After bootloader update, no reboot is necessary. For Test status handling refer to Section 4.2.

    4.19. HDD Recovery:

    4.19.1. Description:This screen displays the current partition information of the HDD. This partition information includes Partitionname, File system name, Volume name and number of sectors occupied by each partition. The screen also containsPass and Fail check box.     4.19.3. Usage Notes:Note: During HDD Recovery user may get a error message HalHDDsectorwrite DeviceIoControl Failed inhyperterminal, which can be ignored. After this if HDD Recovery fails, restart STB and start the recovery processagain.

    Use OK to enter the screen. Copy the golden image into USB \ MOTOPLYR\R160 folder. Press HDD Recoverbutton. Then it will ask for confirmation. Press OK. HDD will take the image from MOTOPLYR\R160 folder andwill display the partition information. When the updation is complete it will display message as HDD Recoverydone. Please reboot. If there are no partitions created on HDD, the status message would display No PartitionInformation found. When USB is not connected or when MOTOPLYR\R160 folder is not present , it will displaymessage as No USB Drive Found. For test status handling refer to Section 4.2
