Understanding how you learn helps you to maximize learning experiences

Individuals who understand how they are motivated can apply that knowledge to understand their current and future learning experiences.

Motivation to learn

Think about something you learned because you wanted to learn more, e.g. play a video game, drive a car, make good enchiladas, etc. (Remember that this is a G-rated show).

You have 1 minute to think and write down a response.

Name the experience. What was your purpose for learning? What was your goal? Why did you want to learn? How did you learn? Was it easy or hard or both? How did you feel when you accomplished your goal. What was your reward? Listen to my story as an example.

Identify your own learning style as it applies to academics and school. You will hand this in to me so that I can get to know you better. Be sure your name is on your paper. Use the following questions to write your paragraph. Use complete sentences.

By the end of the week, you will write goals for yourself regarding building self-motivation for learning in school. School is your job for now and you won’t advance in your job without goals and self-motivation.

We will continue to learn about how you learn throughout the semester and you will monitor your progress on your goals.
