Mothers Proverbs 31:10-31 CEV A truly good

wife is the most precious treasure a man can find! 11 Her husband

depends on her, and she never lets him down. 12 She is good to him every

day of her life, 13 and with her own hands she gladly makes clothes.

14 She is like a sailing ship that brings food from across the sea.

Mothers15 She gets up before daylight to prepare

food for her family and for her servants.16 She knows how to buy land and how to plant a vineyard, 17 and she always works hard. 18 She knows when to buy or sell,

and she stays busy until late at night.19 She spins her own cloth, 20 and she

helps the poor and the needy.

Mothers21 Her family has warm clothing, and so

she doesn't worry when it snows. 22 She does her own sewing, and

everything she wears is beautiful.23 Her husband is a well-known and

respected leader in the city.24 She makes clothes to sell to the shop

owners.

Mothers25 She is strong and graceful, as well as

cheerful about the future. 26 Her words are sensible, and her advice is thoughtful. 27 She takes good care of her family and is never lazy. 28 Her children praise her, and with great

pride her husband says, 29 “There are many good women, but you are the

best!"

Mothers

30 Charm can be deceiving, and beauty fades away, but a woman who honors the LORD deserves

to be praised. 31 Show her respect-- praise her in public for

what she has done.

teachings suit all climes. In Hebrew the verses begin with the letters of the

I. Magnificent Hearts

A. A father is the head of the house; the mother is the heart of

the house.B. Jochabed (Exodus 2:1-25)

I. Magnificent HeartsMoses is Born

Exodus 2:1-24 CEV A man from the Levi tribe married a woman from the

same tribe, 2 and she later had a baby boy. He was a beautiful child, and she

kept him inside for three months. 3 But when she could no longer keep

him hidden, she made a basket out of reeds and covered it with tar.


She put him in the basket and placed it in the tall grass along the

edge of the Nile River. 4 The baby's older sister stood off at a

distance to see what would happen to him.

I. Magnificent Hearts5 About that time one of the king's

daughters came down to take a bath in the river, while her servant women

walked along the river bank. She saw the basket in the tall grass and sent

one of the young women to pull it out of the water.


6 When the king's daughter opened the basket, she saw the

baby and felt sorry for him because he was crying. She said, "This must be one of the Hebrew

babies."


7 At once the baby's older sister came up and asked, "Do you want

me to get a Hebrew woman to take care of the baby for you?“ 8 “Yes," the king's daughter

answered.


So the girl brought the baby's mother, 9 and the king's daughter told her, "Take care of this child,

and I will pay you."The baby's mother carried him

home and took care of him.


10 And when he was old enough, she took him to the king's

daughter, who adopted him. She named him Moses because she

said, "I pulled him out of the water."

I. Magnificent HeartsMoses Escapes from Egypt

11 After Moses had grown up, he went out to where his own people were hard

at work, and he saw an Egyptian beating one of them. 12 Moses looked around to see if anyone was watching, then he killed the Egyptian and hid his

body in the sand.


13 When Moses went out the next day, he saw two Hebrews fighting.

So he went to the man who had started the fight and asked, "Why

are you beating up one of your own people?"


14 The man answered, "Who put you in charge of us and made you our judge? Are you planning to kill

me, just as you killed that Egyptian?"

I. Magnificent HeartsThis frightened Moses because he

was sure that people must have found out what had happened. 15 When the king heard what Moses had done, the king wanted to kill

him. But Moses escaped and went to the land of Midian.


One day, Moses was sitting there by a well, 16 when the seven

daughters of Jethro, the priest of Midian, came up to water their

father's sheep and goats.

I. Magnificent Hearts17 Some shepherds tried to chase

them away, but Moses came to their rescue and watered their

animals. 18 When Jethro's daughters returned home, their father asked, "Why have you come back so early today?"

I. Magnificent Hearts19 They answered, "An Egyptian rescued us from the shepherds, and he even watered our sheep

and goats."20 “Where is he?" Jethro asked. "Why did you leave him out there?

Invite him to eat with us."


21 Moses agreed to stay on with Jethro, who later let his daughter Zipporah marry Moses. 22 And

when she had a son, Moses said, "I will name him Gershom, since I

am a foreigner in this country."


23 After the death of the king of Egypt, the Israelites still

complained because they were forced to be slaves. They cried out

for help, 24 and God heard their loud cries.


He did not forget the promise he had made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, 25 and because he knew

what was happening to his people, he felt sorry for them.

I. Magnificent HeartsC. 1 Kings 3:16-27 CEV One day two women came to King Solomon, 17 and

one of them said: Your Majesty, this woman and I live in the same house. Not long ago my baby was born at home, 18 and three days later her

baby was born. Nobody else was there with us.

I. Magnificent Hearts19 One night while we were all asleep, she rolled over on her

baby, and he died. 20 Then while I was still asleep, she got up and took my son out of my bed. She put him in her bed, then she put

her dead baby next to me.

I. Magnificent Hearts21 In the morning when I got up to feed

my son, I saw that he was dead. But when I looked at him in the light, I

knew he wasn't my son. 22 “No!" the other woman shouted. "He was your

son. My baby is alive!" "The dead baby is yours," the first woman yelled.

I. Magnificent Hearts"Mine is alive!" They argued back and

forth in front of Solomon, 23 until finally he said, "Both of you say this

live baby is yours. 24 Someone bring me a sword." A sword was brought, and Solomon ordered, 25 “Cut the

baby in half! That way each of you can have part of him."


26 “Please don't kill my son," the baby's mother screamed. "Your

Majesty, I love him very much, but give him to her. Just don't kill

him." The other woman shouted, "Go ahead and cut him in half.


Then neither of us will have the baby." 27 Solomon said, "Don't kill the baby." Then he pointed to the first woman, "She is his real mother. Give the baby to her."


D. If one wants to see genuine beauty, he will find it in the tender lines that sacrificial love has drawn upon a mother's face.

II. OasisA. In the midst of terrible things around us,

our mother’s love brings great relief.B. Mary, mother of Jesus1. When Jesus was lost Mary listened to

the words of the boy Jesus and she kept those things in her heart. Luke 2:51 CEV Jesus went back to Nazareth with his parents and obeyed them. His mother kept on thinking about all that had happened.

II. Oasis2. She was humble, meek, and thankful,

she praised and glorified God. Luke 1:41-45 CEV When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, her baby moved within her.

The Holy Spirit came upon Elizabeth. 42 Then in a loud voice she said to Mary: God has blessed you more than any other woman!

II. OasisHe has also blessed the child you will have. 43 Why should the mother of my

Lord come to me? 44 As soon as I heard your greeting, my baby became happy and moved within me. 45 The Lord has blessed you because you

believed that he will keep his promise.

III. ThankfulnessA. Hannah1 Samuel 1:10-17 CEV Hannah was

brokenhearted and was crying as she prayed, 11 “LORD All-Powerful, I am your servant, but I am so miserable! Please let me have a son. I will give him to you for as long as he lives, and his hair will never be cut."

III. Thankfulness

12-13 Hannah prayed silently to the LORD for a long time. But her lips were moving, and Eli thought she was drunk. 14 “How long are you going to stay drunk?" he asked.

"Sober up!"

III. Thankfulness15-16 “Sir, please don't think I'm no

good!" Hannah answered. "I'm not drunk, and I haven't been drinking. But I do feel miserable and terribly

upset. I've been praying all this time, telling the LORD about my

problems."

III. Thankfulness17 Eli replied, "You may go home now and stop worrying. I'm sure the God of

Israel will answer your prayer."18 “Sir, thank you for being so kind to me," Hannah said. Then she left, and after eating something, she felt much

better.

III. Thankfulness19 Elkanah and his family got up early

the next morning and worshiped the LORD. Then they went back home to

Ramah. Later the LORD blessed Elkanah and Hannah 20 with a son.

She named him Samuel because she had asked the LORD for him.

III. Thankfulness1 Samuel 2:1-10 CEV Hannah

prayed: You make me strong and happy, LORD. You rescued me. Now I can be glad and laugh at my enemies. 2 No other god is

like you. We're safer with you than on a high mountain.

III. Thankfulness3 I can tell those proud people, "Stop your boasting! Nothing is hidden from the LORD, and he

judges what we do." 4 Our LORD, you break the bows of warriors,

but you give strength to everyone who stumbles.

III. Thankfulness5 People who once had plenty to eat must now hire themselves out for only

a piece of bread. But you give the hungry more than enough to eat. A

woman did not have a child, and you gave her seven, but a woman who had

many was left with none.

III. Thankfulness6 You take away life, and you give life. You send people down to the world of the dead and bring them back again.

7 Our LORD, you are the one who makes us rich or poor. You put some

in high positions and bring disgrace on others.

III. Thankfulness8 You lift the poor and homeless out of

the garbage dump and give them places of honor in royal palaces. You set the world on foundations, and they belong to you. 9 You protect your loyal

people, but everyone who is evil will die in darkness.

III. ThankfulnessWe cannot win a victory by our own strength. 10 Our LORD, those who attack you will be broken in pieces

when you fight back with thunder from heaven. You will judge the whole earth

and give power and strength to your chosen king.

IV. Helping Hand (Patience)

A. Noah’s wife1. Imagine the patience and the

humble attitude she must have kept during the time the ark was being built


B. The Shunemite Woman 2 Kings 4:8-37 CEV Once, while Elisha was in the town of Shunem, he met a rich woman

who invited him to her home for dinner. After that, whenever he was in Shunem, he would have a meal there

with her and her husband.


9 Some time later the woman said to her husband, "I'm sure the man who

comes here so often is a prophet of God. 10 Why don't we build him a small room on the flat roof of our

house? We can put a bed, a table and chair, and an oil lamp in it. Then

whenever he comes, he can stay with us."


11 The next time Elisha was in Shunem, he stopped at their

house and went up to his room to rest. 12-13 He said to his servant Gehazi, "This woman has been very helpful. Have her come up here to the roof for a moment."


She came, and Elisha told Gehazi to say to her, "You've gone to a lot of trouble for us, and we want to help

you. Is there something we can request the king or army commander to do?" The woman answered, "With

my relatives nearby, I have everything I need."


14 “Then what can we do for her?" Elisha asked Gehazi. Gehazi replied,

"I do know that her husband is old, and that she doesn't have a son." 15 “Ask her to come here again," Elisha told

his servant. He called for her, and she came and stood in the doorway of

Elisha's room.


16 Elisha said to her, "Next year at this time, you'll be holding your own baby son in your arms." "You're a man of God," the

woman replied. "Please don't lie to me." 17 But a few months later,

the woman got pregnant.


She gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had promised. 18 One day while the boy was still young, he

was out in the fields with his father, where the workers were

harvesting the crops.


19 Suddenly he shouted, "My head hurts. It hurts a lot!" "Carry him back to

his mother," the father said to his servant. 20 The servant picked up the boy and carried him to his mother. The boy lay on her lap all morning, and by

noon he was dead.


21 She carried him upstairs to Elisha's room and laid him across the bed. Then she walked out and shut the door behind her. 22 The woman called to her husband, "I need to see the prophet. Let me

use one of the donkeys.


Send a servant along with me, and let me leave now, so I can get back

quickly." 23 “Why do you need to see him today?" her husband asked. "It's not the Sabbath or time for the New Moon Festival." "That's all right," she

answered.


24 She saddled the donkey and said to her servant, "Let's go. And don't slow down unless I tell you to." 25 She left at once for Mount

Carmel to talk with Elisha.


When Elisha saw her coming, he said, "Gehazi, look! It's the woman from Shunem. 26 Run and meet

her. And ask her if everything is all right with her and her family."

"Everything is fine," she answered Gehazi.


27 But as soon as she got to the top of the mountain, she went over and

grabbed Elisha by the feet. Gehazi started toward her to push her away, when Elisha said, "Leave her alone!

Don't you see how sad she is? But the LORD hasn't told me why."


28 The woman said, "Sir, I begged you not to get my hopes up, and I didn't even ask you for a son." 29 “Gehazi, get ready and go to her house," Elisha said. "Take along my walking stick, and when you

get there, lay it on the boy's face.


Don't stop to talk to anyone, even if they try to talk to you." 30 But the

boy's mother said to Elisha, "I swear by the living LORD and by

your own life that I won't leave without you." So Elisha got up and

went with them.


31 Gehazi ran on ahead and laid Elisha's walking stick on the boy's face, but the boy didn't move or

make a sound. Gehazi ran back to Elisha and said, "The boy didn't

wake up."


32 Elisha arrived at the woman's house and went straight to his room, where he saw the boy's

body on his bed. 33 He walked in, shut the door, and prayed to the

LORD.


34 Then he got on the bed and stretched out over the dead body,

with his mouth on the boy's mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hand on his hands. As he lay

there, the boy's body became warm.


35 Elisha got up and walked back and forth in the room, then he went back and leaned over the boy's body. The

boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes. 36 Elisha called out to

Gehazi, "Have the boy's mother come here."


Gehazi did, and when she was at the door, Elisha said, "You can take your

son." 37 She came in and bowed down at Elisha's feet. Then she picked

up her son and left. 1. She fed Elisha and was concerned for

him by her words to her husband in verse 10.

V. ExtraordinaryA. Extraordinary is defined as beyond

what is normal.B. Elisabeth Luke 1:16 CEV John will lead many

people in Israel to turn back to the Lord their God.

VI. Reflection of God’s Love

A. Women love their children and their husbands.

Titus 2:4 CEV so the younger women will be loving wives and mothers.

B. God has an unconditional love; many compare the love of a mother to unconditional love.

VI. Reflection of God’s Love

C. Just as God's Love brings joy, so does the love of a mother.

D. Mothers bring joy, and motherhood is a joyful experience.

Psalms 113:9 CEV When a wife has no children, he blesses her with some, and she is happy. Shout praises to the LORD!
