My Most Frightening Experience

When I gave my exam papers to my mother, I could smell her anger and taste my own fear.

She saw my paper and all I could hear after that was her scoldings.

Then, I felt my mum using the hangar to beat me.

I swore that I would do better in my next examination.

My Most Frightening Experience

I was walking in a dark alley.

The alley was bare with nothing in it.

I heard strange noises in it. The sounds were dark and noisy.

I could taste the sweat dripping down from my forehead. Fear was rising up within me.

I smelt the rats and the dump they were trudging in.

I started making noises, hoping somebody would notice me. I hugged my bag, hoping it would protect me from whoever or whatever was in the alley.

I was in my room reading my favourite comic book “Star Wars” when I had a sudden urge to go to the toilet.

Knowing that I might take a while, I grabbed my book and made a dash to the toilet.

“That feels good,” I thought to myself as I continued reading my comic book. At that juncture, the lights started to flicker.

The lights went off and I was plunged into total darkness. I hastily cleaned myself and stepped out of the toilet.

The whole house was pitch black. A tingling sensation ran down my spine. Wild fragmented thoughts raced through my mind.

I groped around trying to find my torch light. Suddenly, the door behind me opened.

I stood rooted to ground. I turned slowly...

My mother and I were in the bank. The bank was crowded with people. There was something wrong about the two men who had walked into the bank, there was something unpleasant about them.

The first man was tall, burly muscular and and there was a perpetual scowl etched on his face, giving him an aura of distinct ferocity.

The other man was tall and his menacing expressions made me shudder in fear. He signaled to the first man to get ready to take action. I could already smell something fishy. In one swift motion, the men whipped out their revolvers, their sleek black bodies glinting in the light.

One of the two men fired two shots in quick succession at the ceiling. The noise was deafening in the confined space in the bank and the two bullets stitched two holes in the ceiling.

In hoarse voices, the two men bellowed, “Give us all the money you have or you will die!”

I was paralyzed with fear at that time. Needless to say, everybody was disorientated and the customers in the bank gasped in horror. I could taste my bitter fear, it was hard to swallow.

One of the bank tellers squatted down and informed the police discretely and carefully.

My head was spinning and I prayed that I would escape from the ordeal alive. Suddenly, the policemen arrived. The policemen handcuffed the two men. I heaved a sigh of relief, I had narrowly escaped the jaws of death.
