Introductory letter to parents/carers MOSBOROUGH RUFC

Dear PARENT/CARER,

For all new members, on behalf of MOSBOROUGH RUFC I would like to welcome your child to the club and provide you with some information about our activities. The club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of 5 to 18 to receive coaching and competition. All coaching is by qualied coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people.

The club has been accredited with Sport England's Clubmark, which is awarded to clubs by RFU when the club is able to demonstrate that it meets the RFU criteria as to playing programme; safe-guarding and protecting children; sports equity and ethics and club management. Clubmark is an acknowledgement that we take these issues seriously and that we are striving to provide a high quality and welcoming environment for young participants in the sport. Our club Welfare Ocer, SHAUN ANDREWS, is responsible for ensuring that our child protection policy is implemented, and can be contacted on 07714207816 should you have any concerns.

Training sessions take place at Mosborough RUFC Club Pitch and Westeld Training Playing Pitches on Tuesday from 6pm and Sunday 10am-12pm dependant on age group.

Arrangements should be made for your child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We appreciate it if children can arrive promptly and are collected promptly at the end of the session, if they are not making their own way home please contact your relevant coach to let them know. If you intend to leave your child please have a nominated person to take care of said child in your absence.

We would be grateful if you could complete the attached junior club membership form. For the safety of your child it is important that the club is informed of any medical condition or allergies that may be relevant, should your child fall ill or be involved in an accident while at the club.

If you would like to talk to someone at the club about this information or your child’s involvement with the club, please contact me further on 07974377687.

We thank you for your cooperation and look forward to meeting you at some point in the future.

One nal note, I would like to thank all coaches, parents and of course the players for such a successful season last year in club games, festivals and tournaments. Lets make 2013-14 another one to remember.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Les Newman (Jr. President)

HISTORY OF MOSBOROUGH RUFC

MOSBOROUGH RUFC

Mosborough RUFC was formed in 1984 to begin playing in the 1985/86 season, (initially as Mosborough Athletic RUFC), when a group of ex Mosborough School pupils decided to start a senior rugby team. Only two players from the original team still play namely Paul Mortlock and Phil Smith.

The first season was not a good one for Mosborough, losing all their games that season, (usually by quite a big margin). The following season players flooded to the pre season training, having “got the bug” and after getting back into competitive Rugby. The season got off to a flying start with the clubs first ever victory in the first weekend of the 86/87 season against Manton Colliery. Season after season players came and went but the team and team spirit continued developing until in 1988 Mosborough RUFC was accepted into the Courage League system, in Yorkshire division 6, for the following season. Note that the “Athletic” had been dropped from the clubs name in 1987.) The 88/89 season, under Bob Lees, the team competed well and finished mid table and in 91/92 the club, captained by Phil Barker, was promoted. The 91/92 season was also memorable for the formation of the second team thanks to the work of Phil Smith and Andy Proctor. Despite the clubs short history a 3rd team was developed by Paul Mortlock and Lawrence Hannon 93/94. Today the club plays in the Yorkshire 4 division and still maintains 3 teams along with a Veterans team which was established in 2005. But perhaps the clubs greatest achievement over the last few years is the development of a Junior section. The first Mosborough Junior team started in 2002 and was formed when the Eckington Eagles Rugby League Club, coached and managed by Mark Evens asked if they could join Mosborough RUFC and change codes from league to union. Mark stayed with the club and coached the young players through the change and in the same year accompanied the young side to an emerging team competition, organised by the RFU, to Oral and the new Commonwealth games Stadium in Manchester. The following season Shaun Andrews and John Staton took over the coaching and from there membership of the Junior section started to increase. The team grew in strength and soon new players arrived and the coaching team was boosted by senior players and new volunteers eager to help in the development of the Junior section. With the support of funds from the Senior Section, the Lottery Fund and the South Yorkshire Network Fund, the club provided coaching and equipment for local schools and as a result the number of teams grew. Thanks to all the coaches, parents, volunteers and the Junior Sub-Committee chaired by Lez Newman the Junior section now has 80 playing members forming 5 teams, a mini section and has seen many young players graduate to senior rugby. In the clubs 27th year both the Senior and Junior sections are expanding and are a credit to all the hard work put in over the years by many people. Arnie Hattersley September 2009.
