  • Cooking Capacity The 6.5 litre Flavour Savour has a

    maximum working capacity of 5litres.

The 4.5 litre Flavour Savour has amaximum working capacity of 3.5litres.

The capacity can be found on therating label, located underneaththe product.

Before using the Flavour Savour for the first time

Remove all labels and tags fromthe product.

Wash the stainless steel pan andlid in hot soapy water with asponge or dishcloth. DO NOT usea scouring pad or other abrasivematerial as this will mark thestainless steel. Rinse the pan andlid thoroughly and dry.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT IMMERSETHE FLAVOUR SAVOUR BASEIN WATER

Please note:During initial use, you may noticea slight odour due to the burningoff of manufacturing residue. Thisis completely normal, does noteffect the food being cooked andwill disappear after a few uses.

    Flavour Savour Hints & Tips

All ingredients should be at roomtemperature before adding. Ifchilled, allow to come to roomtemperature, as cold food willaffect the cooking time.

Meat can be used chilled from thefridge, but do not use frozen meat.Use the browning function to sealthe meat.

Make sure all frozen ingredientsare thoroughly thawed before use.

If using cold stock in the slowcooking recipe (for example, wine)you will need to pre-heat theingredients. Start with thebrowning function first, adding allthe ingredients. When the 15 mintime is up, continue with the slowcooking function.

In traditional stove top slowcooking, it is advised to coat themeat in flour before browning. There is no need to do this in theFlavour Savour. Simply brown /seal the meat as instructed. If theliquid needs to be thickened, addand stir in a corn flour / cold waterpaste mix 30 minutes towards theend of the cooking time.

If using meat on the bone (forexample, chicken thighs, spareribs, etc), the slow cookingprocess can make the meat fallaway from the bone - this isnormal, and results in a richerflavour. However, watch out forsmall bones that could be in theliquid.

Do not over fill the pan, as therecipes on pages 9-12 of thisinstruction booklet are designedfor maximum capacity, and allowsroom above the food for evencooking. The capacity can befound on the rating label, locatedunderneath the product. If usingyour own recipe, do not fill abovethe handle rivets that can be seeninside the pan. A

The lid will become very hot in use.The silicon insulated handles willstay cool, allowing you to lift thelid with. However, it is advisable totake the precaution of using ovengloves when doing this.

Ingredients should be evenlydistributed throughout the pan. However, root vegetables arebetter placed in the lower half ofthe pot to start cooking. Allingredients should be immersed inthe cooking liquid.

To ensure even cooking, rootvegetables should be cut to size(approx 20mm cubed).

If the pan over boils, this willusually be because it has beenover filled, so remove some of theingredients and /or liquid.

In general, tough meats likestewing meat require longercooking times which are ideal forslow cooking. For the stewfunction, a better quality cut ofmeat is required to suit the1:301:45 cooking time.

Chicken and quality cuts of meatrequire less time to cook. Youshould therefore use the lowervalue of the time range forexample, for level 1 use 8 hours.

For dumplings, add to the stew30-45 minutes before the endtime. You can add these to thesurface, and there is no need tosubmerge in the liquid.

Ham joints should be left in theplastic wrapper, if supplied. If not,use a suitable heat resistantplastic bag or tie with butchersstring to prevent the ham fromfalling apart during the cooking.

If using the stew setting, allow thecooked food to rest for 10 minutesin the pan before serving. Thisallows the hot (boiling) food tocool before eating.

When you have becomeexperienced at using your FlavourSavour, you can begin to createyour own recipes, but it isadvisable to follow an existingrecipe as a guide. If usingingredients such as pasta, milk, cream, sea food or shell fish in arecipe, these should be added 30minutes towards the end of thecooking of the other ingredients.Coconut milk and rice puddingrecipe does not apply.

Do not leave raw, uncooked foodin the pan for any length of time.Start the cooking process as soonas possible. If you have to delaythe cooking, store the food in afridge, and when ready, allow tocome back to room temperature.

  • If a previously cooked recipe hasgone cold, use the stew setting at1:30hrs to reheat the food.Depending on the recipe, this cantake 30-45 minutes to reheat.Ensure the food is hot beforeserving.

If you are cooking half quantities, cooking time can usually bereduced to two thirds. Check thatthe food is thoroughly cookedbefore serving.

Adapting existing recipes fromconventional cooking to use in aslow cooker may require reducingthe liquid used, as liquid does notevaporate to the same extent.

Where stock is required, useboiling water.

When cooking joints of meat, startby covering with boiling water orstock. This can be reducedtowards the end of the cookingtime.

Uncooked red kidney beans mustbe soaked and boiled for 10minutes to remove toxins beforeuse in the Flavour Savour.

If required pour off excess oil afterbrowning.

If using stock or sauces from jarsor containers, heat first in amicrowave and then add to thepan. Alternatively add 30 minutesto the cooking time.

    Explanation of Terms

Browning/Sealing:Before stewing or slow cookingmeat, it is important that the meatis sealed / browned first. Thismeans to cook the meat lightly onthe outside in hot oil beforestarting the stewing or slowcooking process (the meat shouldstill be raw in the middle). Sealing/ browning your meat in this wayhelps it to retain flavour as well asmoisture.

Stewing:With respect to the FlavourSavour, stewing means to cookyour meat and / or vegetables in aliquid (eg wine, stock, water) inbetween 1 hour 30 minutes and 1hour 45 minutes.

Slow Cooking:Slow cooking is a way of cookingfood over a long period of time(usually between 4 and 10 hours)in a liquid (eg wine, stock, water). As the name suggests, food iscooked more slowly and gently, often meaning that meat will bemore tender. Meats with a higherfat content are well suited to slowcooking as the process allows thefat to melt, leaving the meat verytender.

    Instructions for Use

Place the base on to a dry, level, heat resistant surface, awayfrom the edge of the work surface.Do not use on the floor.

Please note:If the product is switched on andnot in use, the timer display lightwill switch off to standby modeafter 30 minutes.

    Flavour Savour Sealing/Browning Function

Place the pan on to the baseunit and plug the FlavourSavour in.The display will show thedefault screen B.

The time display and theSealing Function icon will bothbe flashing. Add an appropriateamount of oil to the pan for thequantity of meat you wish to seal.

See recipes on pages 9-11 of thisinstruction booklet.

We recommend thatapproximately two tablespoons ofvegetable oil is suitable to sealbetween 800g-1200g of meat. Thiscan however be varied dependingon personal taste and the amountof fat in the meat being sealed.

To select the Sealing function, press the Accept button once. The Flavour Savour will beep forapproximately 2 seconds and thedisplay will stop flashing. The panwill then start to heat up and thetimer will begin to countdown. The oil will take approximately 5minutes to reach the correcttemperature for sealing / browningmeat (i.e. when the timer reads00:10). A good way to test if theoil if hot enough is to add a smallpiece of meat or onion to the pan.If it sizzles when it hits the oil, thetemperature is sufficient to seal /brown. If it does not sizzle, let thepan heat up for another minute orso and then test it again.

Add the meat to pan and stirregularly until the outside of themeat is sealed / browned. Whenthe timer reaches zero, the basewill beep and the cooking processwill stop. If your meat is sealedbefore the timer reaches zero, holddown the Accept button forapproximately 3 seconds. Thebase will beep, the cookingprocess will stop and the screenwill return to the default displayB.

If your meat needs a few extraminutes sealing after the timer hasreached zero, simply press theAccept button to start thesealing/browning function again. As explained above, to cancel thesealing function before the timerreaches zero, hold down theAccept button forapproximately 3 seconds.
