Wedding Policy – Six months before the wedding, the couple should meet with the pastor, before the wedding dates are selected. At least one member of the family should be a member of our parish.

Baptism Policy – Parents must be registered parishioners and attend a Baptism Class before their child may be baptized. Expectant mothers are encouraged to attend. The class is for parents only – baby-sitting is not provided.

Funeral Policy – Funerals are scheduled Tuesday-Saturday. We discourage funerals Sundays and Mondays. Participation by other priests and deacons must have prior approval of current pastor.

Our Bible Study “Genesis to Jesus” will help all of us to understand how the literary styles are used and how Catholics should read the Bible. SECOND COLLECTION FOR THE RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS“My batteries are still running,” says Sister Florence Kruczke, 91. “I get up each morning and say, “O Lord, thank you for the gift of another day.’” Sister Florence and Sister de Lourdes Okoniewski, 87, are members of the Bernardine Franciscans of Reading, Pennsylvania. Each entered religious life in the 1940’s, fresh out of high school. In addition to serving in Catholic schools, Sister Florence obtained a doctorate in French, and taught for 25 years at Alvernia University, an institution founded by her congregation. Sister de Lourdes spent 43 years in Catholic education and then pursued various other ministries, finally retiring at age 85. Today, both sisters focus their energies on praying for the needs of the Church and the world.On the weekend of September 28/29, we will have a second collection for retired religious. Please be generous and please make checks payable to “Church of the Holy Family.”Your gift will support necessities such as medications and nursing care and will help ensure that the next generation of Sister Florence and Sister de Lourdes can continue in ministry.

WHO ARE THE MEN OF FAITH? WHAT DO THEY DO? We are ordinary Catholic men who seek a closer relationship with God. We meet twice each month to support and encourage one another on our spiritual journey. We preview the Mass readings for the following Sunday and discuss how to apply their lessons to our daily lives. We also read and discuss good spiritual books to help us in this. VOTING ISSUES – DOING GOOD AND AVOIDING EVIL: There are some things we must never do, as individuals or as a society, because they are always incompatible with love of God and neighbor. These intrinsically evil acts must always be rejected and never supported. A preeminent example is the intentional taking of human life through abortion. It is always morally wrong to destroy innocent human beings.

“LISTENING SESSIONS” WITH FR. RENE: You are invited to meet with your neighbors and Fr. René to share your opinions and ideas about our parish. Sessions are scheduled to be held in the neighborhood homes and will be a great way for Fr. René to get to know us and our parish, and for us to meet each other. Please sign up in the Commons. SEALCOAT AND RESTRIPE PARKING LOT: This work should be nearly complete. The start was delayed by weather, but the contractor has worked between rain days. Please continue to observe “No Drive” zones marked by traffic cones. The materials being used on the pavement are difficult/impossible to remove if splattered on cars or clothing. Thank you for your cooperation.

EXPLORING MIGRATION: Classes begin on Monday, September 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and meet in the Library.

KITCHEN RENOVATION: The contractor performing kitchen renovations will start Monday, September 23. Work is scheduled to take 45 days. We will not be using any of the furnishings or equipment during this time. This includes sinks, refrigerator, freezer, warming oven, microwave, or the ice machine. Any food service events will have to use paper or disposable plastic. We will continue doughnuts, but not coffee during this period. Juice and water will be available with the doughnuts.

AN INVITATION: We, the Ecumenical Working Community for the Environment, a Sowers of Justice Program, invite you to join us on October 3 to celebrate our Earth for the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. and will end at 8:30 p.m. It will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Road, in Virginia Beach. This spiritual celebration will include prayers, readings, a presentation by Mark Hoggard, the Pastoral Associate at St. Pius X Church in Norfolk, a commitment to taking some action, and free tree sprouts for planting and refreshments. CROSS CATHOLIC OUTREACH: On the weekend of October 5/6, we will welcome Fr. Bernard Olszewski to Holy Family to speak at all the Masses on behalf of Cross Catholic Outreach which was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priests and nuns working in the Church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central America, and South America.
