However, I do anticipate we will continue the year with 23 mainstream classes, three support unit classes and one Early Intervention class. The staff of Moree Public School have been very busy settling into class routines, getting to know students and reinforcing positive choices while at school. One aspect of our day that we have been looking at closely is the morning drop-off. All students are strongly encouraged to say goodbye to their parent/carer at the front gate and walk into school independently. It is very important for children to have a consistent routine at morning drop-off time - as staying in the school until the bell goes can be very distressing for children who find it hard to separate. Parents are kindly asked not to walk their child directly to class if they are late. Any parent on school grounds between 9:10am and 2:45pm is required to attend the front office to notify of their presence and indicate the need to be on school grounds during the school day. School Uniform Walking around the school this week, I have been pleased to see the high standard of school uniform worn by students. However, there are still a number of students wearing coloured jumpers and hats which are not part of the school uniform. Being a member of Moree Public School means wearing the school uniform with pride at all times. Wearing full school uniform is a sign of respect for our school and the values that we uphold. Department of Education - School Community Charter Last year the department of Education released its School Community Charter, which outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public Schools. See below for a summary of the main points: Positive environments It is important that our public schools are positive environments and that parents and carers are kept informed of students' progress and school announcements. Parents and carers can expect: to be welcomed into our schools to work in partnership to promote student learning. communication from school staff will be timely, polite and informative. professional relationships with school staff are based on transparency, honesty and mutual respect. to be treated fairly. Tolerance and understanding are promoted as we respect diversity. Communicating with our schools Our staff will find time to talk to you when they can give you their full attention. please remember that while our staff are in class or dealing with other matters, they may not be able to answer your questions immediately. For a number of years, the P&C has generously supported BOOKS IN HOMES which means every kinder student over the course of their first year at school, will receive nine beautiful books for their personal library. What a wonderful way to promote reading! The Term 1 selections will be sent home with students on this Friday, 28 February. Keep your eye out for some great books to share over the weekend.

5. BOOK CLUB – TERM 1 Scholastic Book Club provides an opportunity for families to purchase books through the catalogue system. We co-ordinate one catalogue per term and the first will be going home with this newsletter. To assist our staff with the ordering process, please ensure all orders have been submitted to the school office or library by Monday, 9 March.

6. SPORT ROUNDUP • Tennis: Over the past few weeks, Mrs Kaukiainen and MPS students have been involved in a round robin of tennis during lunch time and after school. We invite EOI from years 3, 4, 5 amd 6 MPS students to join us, have a

good time and learn how to fence.

Fencing is Olympic individual sport and it is

ideal for kids who prefer to be in control of

their own success.

It requires a great deal of mental focus and develops good hand –eye coordination.

Fencing is a great mind and body workout and is often referred as 'physical chess'.

It also improves child´s strategic thinking and academic discipline.

Fencing changes ideas of what´s possible.

It makes greatness seem achievable. Once a child has that belief—once they see that becoming truly excellent at something is actually doable — it can alter the way they approach everything in life.
