The Order For Morning Worship

11th Sunday in Ordinary Time

ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME

Welcome & Worship Notes

Call to Worship

Leader: Small as a mustard seed

and lofty as a cedar: Mark 4:27, 31-32

People: The kingdom of God is growing. Ezekiel 17:22-24b

Leader: While we sleep and rise night and day;

People: The kingdom of God is growing.

Leader: The low are brought high;

the high are brought low:

People: The kingdom of God is growing,

its large branches are home

to all kinds of people!

*Hymn in Procession No. 56 “Sing Out with Joy to God Our Strength”

*Prayer of the Day

Leader: God, Sower of seeds, Mark 4:26

be at work among us, we pray,

that your church may thrive in faithfulness.

Even we can become a new creation; 2 Corinthians 5:17, 14

urge us on, in the love of Christ.

In his name we pray.

People: Amen.

Call to Confession

Leader: God will not count

our trespasses against us, 2 Corinthians 5:19-20

longing instead for us to be reconciled.

People: We come before God, then,

in honesty, humility, and hope.

Prayer of Confession (in unison)

Gracious God,

we so often miss your kingdom at work among us.

Captivated by power and prestige,

we overlook the mustard seeds

you have planted all around. Mark 4:31

Forgive us for failing to notice where and how you are at work.

Forgive us when we work against your plans and purposes—

Fostering divisions when you have called us

to a ministry of reconciliation; 2 Corinthians 5:18

beset by apathy

when the world has such deep needs;

building walls to keep people out

when your branches offer generous nests. Mark 4:32

Help us to grow in faithfulness,

we pray,

so that we might reach our fullest height of faith.

In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Kyrie—Hymn No. 577 (sung in both Greek and English) “Lord, Have Mercy”

(please stand in body or spirit)

*Assurance of Pardon

Leader: If anyone is in Christ,

there is a new creation: 2 Corinthians 5:17—18, 20

everything old has passed away;

see, everything has become new!

People: We are ambassadors for Christ,

for God has reconciled us through him!

Get in the Game at

WAKONDA IN THE CITY!

I am thrilled that we are once again offering this wonderful day camp right here at Christ Church! This year's sports and games camp will be Monday, July 9

th through Friday, July 13

th.

One of our days will feature international games. If you or someone you know has a fun game they know of and would like to teach it to the kids, please contact Jennie George.

WANT TO HELP? Support from our congregation in the following areas is greatly appreciated and needed to make this week a success:

• Help make lunch in the kitchen • Group helpers to assist the counselors and help the kids with activities • Donate a snack (prepackaged snacks and juice boxes. We need about 80 per

day) • Provide a homemade dessert for lunch (peanut-free cookies, brownies, or other

handheld item) • DONATE! It costs us about $100 a day for each day’s lunch. Plus, on Tuesday,

our Tiqvah friends are joining us so that day’s lunch will be closer to $200 that day. The more we are able to offset that cost, the more we are able to put into programming.

Contact Jennie George for more information or sign up at the kiosk. Thanks for being a great sport and supporting Wakonda in the City!

Can remember a time when you were in a frightening storm (literal or figurative) and felt in danger of being “swamped”? Did God feel far away or near to help you?

God Speaks to Israel in Exile

Leader: Thus says the Lord God: I myself will take a sprig

From the lofty top of a cedar; I will set it out. People: I will break off a tender one

From the topmost of its young twigs;

I myself will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.

Leader: On the mountain height of Israel I will plant it,

In order that it may produce boughs and bear fruit,

And become a noble cedar.

People: Under it every kind of bird will live;

In the shade of its branches will nest

Winged creatures of every kind.

Leader: All the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord.

People: I bring low the high tree, I make high the low tree;

I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish.

Leader: I the Lord have spoken; I will accomplish it.
