This is one of my favorite ways

of getting to know everyone

here. I think you’ll find it both

entertaining and invigorating.

First, you’re going to break into

groups of two. It’s better if you

find someone you don’t already

know much about, but it’s OK if

you feel more comfortable with

someone you know.

Your job is to find out a few

things about each other. You

might want to take notes, and

be sure to keep it brief and

interesting.

Your next task will be to

introduce each other to all

of us.

Now you know why I told

you to keep it brief and

interesting when I asked

you to find out about each

other.

You only have a few

moments, so get started

right away.

Four More Attributes of Leaders

Before we hear the stories, let’s

highlight some of the attributes of

leaders.

Four More Attributes of Leaders

1. Leaders Understand

and Embrace

Different Cultures.

They know we live in an

interconnected world where diversity

makes for a stronger organization.

2. Leaders know what’s

important.

They know how to focus on what’s

important not just what’s urgent.

to remain ahead.

Four More Attributes of Leaders

4. Leaders understand “When” as well

as “What”.

They know it’s sometimes more

important to know “when” to do

something than “what” to do.

Barack Obama Barack Obama was the

44th President of the

United States.

He is revered by some

and reviled by others,

like many political

leaders in many

countries.

during the time of his presidency, but

here are some of his best.

And now, here

are some of the

leadership

stories I

promised you.

“And Then There Were Stories …”

“And Then There Were Stories …”

The stories are from my latest

book, available on amazon.com in

both print and electronic (Kindle)

versions:

“And Then There Were Stories

… Lessons from a Lifetime of

Leadership.”

If you are a US Amazon Prime

member the electronic (Kindle)

version is available for free in their

lending library.

“And Then There Were Stories …”

The stories are all true, and in

most instances I’ve even used the

real first names of the people

involved.

After all, if it weren’t for these

extraordinary people I never could

have written the book.

Michael Jordan Here is one of his famous quotes:

“If you’re trying to achieve there will be

roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody

has had them. But obstacles don’t

have to stop you. If you run into a

wall, don’t turn around and give up.

Figure out how to climb it, go through

it, or work around it."

Exercise #1

FALL LEADERSHIP

Consulting International 38 © 2015

Break up into groups of

four or five.

You are the senior

managers of a multi-

national corporation that

has been told by

headquarters that you

have to reorganize.

Decide who among you

will be the CEO (Chief

Executive Officer).

Exercise #1

Page 39: More Leadership Lessons Workshop Global

FALL LEADERSHIP

Consulting International 39 © 2015

Prepare a speech for your

middle managers

describing the

reorganization you are

planning to do.

All of you need to reach

consensus about the

speech.

The CEO will deliver the

speech.

Exercise #1

FALL LEADERSHIP

To finish, I’m going to ask you

to share your speeches with

everyone.

We’ll be the middle managers

and we can ask questions and

respond to your speeches.

I’ll write everything down up

here, and we’ll see what we

can learn from each other.

Break up into groups of

two.

For each group of two,

first one of you will be a

Manager and the other an

Employee who works for

the Manager.

Then you will reverse

roles, with the Employee

now being the Manager.

As the Manager, you are

giving an Exit Interview to

an Employee who has

taken another job.

You can decide if you are

glad or sorry that the

Employee is leaving.

After this, when you

reverse roles, you can

decide if you are glad or

sorry that the Employee

is leaving.

Exercise #2

It will be easier if you make

notes about what you want to

say to the Employee.

Once you’ve practiced with

each other, you’ll share your

discussion with everyone.

I’ll write everything down up

here, and we’ll see what we

can learn from each other.
