MOORFIELD TIMESA taste of life at Moorfield

Days come and go, seasons pass and the years slip by. Another year at Moorfield is now over. As this copy of the Moorfield Times shows, not a moment is wasted. Weeks are packed with opportunities to learn and to grow, with the breadth and richness of life at Moorfield giving our pupils both countless experiences and a great deal of fun.

One of our favourite songs for assembly has the following words: The days come and go, we learn and we grow, but let’s make the most of today, this day we’ll care in the little things, this day be grateful for everything, this way we’ll make it a beautiful day

Hi, my name is Hannah. I joined Moorfield in Year 3 and I can’t believe I’m about to leave. At my old school I wouldn’t have had all the great opportunities like starting the cello, experiencing bushcraft and the residential trips to Robinwood and London. London was really cool because it was interesting yet really fun, especially going to see Matilda. I am going to miss Moorfield and hope my next school is as good!

NURSERYThis term we all loved exploring all our wonderful new resources in our newly decorated Nursery and outdoor provisions as well as our bushcraft area and mud kitchen. We enjoyed many outdoor trips. We visited Hesketh Farm Park where we had the chance to feed the lambs and calves, collect eggs, brush the pigs and cuddle the guinea pigs!

We enjoyed walks to the Cow and Calf, the Tarn and White Wells in the sun and rain and a Big Toddle down to Ilkley Park.

RECEPTIONThis term Reception have been enjoying the long hazy days of summer, exploring and learning both inside and outside. Our child-led projects have focused on bees, plants and flowers, water and superheroes! Playing in the stream at Bolton Abbey has been a particular highlight. Children commented that it was the best day ever and the polite and well-behaved nature of all pupils was noted by many members of the public. We have all made such fantastic

progress this year and have enjoyed talking about what makes us proud.

A day in the life of a Giant! I got up and I got dressed and I brushed my teeth with a big giants toothbrush. I went down stairs and I said Fee Fi Fo Fum what’s for my breakfast wife? For breakfast I had 100 boys. Then I went to giant work. Then I had lunch, for lunch I had 1000 rabbits. Then I went to giant golf, for a golf ball I used a bolder and for the club I used a tree. After that I had a bath of snot then I got into giant bed and fell fast asleep.

At lunchtime we watched a sheep show. In the sheep show the sheep danced! It was funny! We saw a big rabbit called Boris, he was fat.

Did you know that owls have spaces in their feathers so their prey can’t hear them? Whilst having a snack we watched a dog show and I went into the pen. Then we went to a mobile farm. We saw goats and a pony and bunnies and we pretended to milk a cow!

I will put into the box

The darkness from the deepest cave The twinkle of a star on a clear night The sound of a ball flying in the air

I will put into the box The green leaves of an oak tree The footprint of an elephant

Fancy an authentic historical home? Well this is a one-of-a-kind home with an open fire to keep you toasty and warm. Although you only have one bedroom for the whole family, you can still get a glorious night’s sleep.

This superb living space is an open zoned space. If your family are talking about something really important and you feel you might miss out if you go to the loo, well in this property, you can go to the loo and carry on the conversation at the same time.

There is only one big room in this property but it does mean that you don’t have to bump into internal walls.

Enjoy the lovely, comfortable straw beds and enjoy heating your food over an open fire. Don’t be put off with the darkness of the room. The only light is from the hanging stone pots which contain flames but this does give a romantic, cosy atmosphere and is brilliant for games of hide and seek.

Form 3 enjoyed an exciting day at Bewerley Park Outdoor Adventure Centre. During the day, the children learned how to rock climb, squeeze themselves through some rather tricky spaces, navigate around an obstacle course blindfolded and canoe.

MathsAs part of our shape topic in maths, we used spaghetti, marshmallows, straws, lollipop stick, sellotape and string to create an array of 3d shapes. We even made a huge class tetrahedron!

As part of our Ancient Egyptian topic, Form 3 have been investigating, designing and constructing shadufs.

This is a stunning detached family home, built in a time of elegance and grace, presented in a fresh contemporary style. This luxurious property boasts one bedroom with its own en-suite lavatory where you get to join in your family’s conversations while you are on the loo. If it is cold in winter, this house provides an open fire. The house itself

Would you like to buy a Viking longhouse? Form 4 used persuasive language and estate agent vocabulary to try and sell this kind of property. We looked at different descriptions on estate agents websites and then used this

Building Bridges

For Form 4, the residential trip to Bewerley Park Outdoor Education centre was keenly anticipated by all children and was the highlight of the year. The different activities proved challenging, particularly ghyll scrambling where the first task was learning how to put on a wetsuit! Canoeing proved to be the most popular activity and on a beautiful warm day, the opportunity to splash each other was too tempting to resist.

When we went to Nell Bank we had a wonderful time doing lots of really fun activities such as pond dipping, orienteering and a walk in Bluebell woods. We went to Nell Bank to study rivers, on our walk we kept a look out for tributaries, sources and confluences until we met the bridge. Our instructors Ally and Eve decided we should have a race with sticks to demonstrate how fast the river flows in different places. The orienteering was great for our map skills. Everyone agreed that Nell Bank was a great school trip.

Robin Wood was fabulous (but tiring.) The petrifying piranha pool put our team work to the test. With only seconds to spare we made it out alive! The staff at Robin wood were lovely and encouraging. Although some of us were tearful we challenged ourselves and overcame our fears. The night ninjas made us feel at home and made us realise we had each other (especially the twins). The food was delicious! Form 4 you have got a lot of surprises instore for you. Good luck!

Freya A chocolatey, sweet scent draws me closer,my eyes open wider, my dreams are alive. Warmth rises as the glistening sun fills theroom.Temptation takes over, just one look. Deafened by silence, engulfed in darkness. The smell disappears, my dreams are over. Is that light? Too Bright to see, something very special, something very rare. Hope. Evie

Pandora’s Box

In the corner of the room, A chest made of the finest gold. The temptation was wrenching me towards it Just one look. With a clatter and a crash dark souls filled the room. Wailing and yelping spread across the abandoned town. I turned. My heart began to crack One thing left, Hope

Senior 6S6’s trip to London was a great success. They are now experienced travellers in our great capital city; able to manage an oyster card, travel on the tube without toppling over; navigate their way to the top floor of a red London bus and get off at the right stop! We shall repeat it all again with next year’s S6!

Senior 6 have been busy working on two separate Design Technology projects this term: a moving toy using cams and textiles work to make a gadget case.
