2018 Moolah® Shrine PotentateKyle McEvoy

Nobles,

I first would like to tell you how honored I am to be elected the 129th Potentate of Moolah Temple. I grew up at Moolah with a father who has been a Shriner for 50 years. I remember to this day backing my bicycle out of the garage the same way my father backed his motorcycle out to head to Motor Patrol practice on Monday nights. I would reenact the whole process. I remember getting dune buggy rides from members after parades and being paid to wash and wax dune buggies to get them ready for CSSA and Imperial competitions. My memories of the Shriners go back as far as my memories go back!

I would like to thank everyone who helped Illustrious Dean Isbell and First Lady Kim on an outstanding year. The gun raffle was a great success and has brought to us, for the first time in a long time, a new fund raiser that has the potential to augment the proceeds of the circus so that we can continue keeping our wonderful facility in place for the membership. Between the First lady’s fund raiser and the gun raffle we generated over $100,000 for the Fraternity. Excellent job to the membership and our leadership for making such an impact with these events! . A tip of the Fez to Illustrious Sir Dean Isbell and First Lady Kim. We spent so much time with these wonderful people over the years and they have done an outstanding job for our Fraternity.

The year was fun and went by fast, but we are on to a new year with great things planned for the membership. First, Lady Kerry has been working hard with me to plan a year that we hope will be filled with fun. Speaking of fun, our motto for the year is “Having Fun for Generations to Come”. We chose this because my whole life has been filled with wonderful experiences from the Shrine. With a father being a Shriner for 50 years, myself 24 years and my 18-year old son that plans to join this Spring we will be a a three-generation Shriner family. I look forward to my boys, in the coming years, having just as much fun as I have had and my father has had doing great things for the Hospital while having fun. Please take this as a challenge for this year to look at your own family as a way to bring in new members stretching multiple generations. My logo for this year includes the Shrine legacy symbol for that very reason. How can we get more generations of Shriners? It starts with each of us making this a priority. Invite them to our wonderful events so you can show them that you can have fun while supporting the greatest philanthropy in the world!

I want to thank everyone for a fun election night after party. We have much coming ahead. We look forward to the bus trips to our Shrine Club installations and spending time at as many presentations as we can make meeting new people and having FUN!

The Super Bowl party is right around the corner on February 4th and we look forward to a large ball on March 3rd. Look for the details within this issue of the Camels’ Tales. Our theme for the ball is Boogie Nights! We are talking a full on seventies disco party. Break out those leisure suits and the best disco clothing you can find. Also, invite your family to the event and prospective Shriners showing them the type of fun we have at our parties. The ball is a great opportunity to invite your sons, nephews, grandkids, neighbors and friends to really show them how much fun we have while doing great things for the children we serve at the Hospital. Don’t be shy, this party is going to be a blast and can be used for recruiting. Get people to come out and Disco Dance the night away!

Circus work is in full steam! Sell those tickets and ads and let’s help Don Taylor, Ron Reynolds and the entire Circus Committee have yet another successful circus. It takes the entire team to pull this off and we all need to do what we can to contribute to its success.

The gun raffle will happen again this year. Let’s see if we can outperform our first year’s sales and keep building on this great new fund raiser! We can keep growing this year after year. Details are coming, but we need to focus on the Circus first.

On behalf of Frist Lady Kerry and myself, we look forward to serving you this year, and we hope to meet all of your expectations for the year. Let’s have fun and keep that going for generations to come!

Fraternally,

Illustrious Sir Kyle McEvoy

Happy New Year!

Do you want to get ahead of the game this year? What would you think if I could remove a weight from your shoulders that will help relieve stress in your everyday life?

So at the end of 2017 I had some pretty cool, huge life events. First, I got married to my best friend and love of my life. My wife and I also bought our first home to-gether. What God says about marriage, and all that I have learned about loving my new bride, and living together may be discussed in a later devotional. Just know that getting married was the best event of 2017.

Becoming a new home owner, or becoming a new owner of an old house has taught me quite a bit that I never expected. I am confident that I have only experienced just the beginning of a lot of lessons of owning a home. When my wife and I were given a used washer, and dryer that worked well, one of those learning lessons hit me. How do you get a washer, and dryer that are just about as wide as the door way in the basement? One of my many blessings is a great Dad. My Dad has taught me so much throughout the years and continues to teach me little tricks. Like, just make the path a little wider by taking the doors off the hinges. This did not make the washer any lighter, but did just give us enough space to get our washer, and dryer down in the basement.

When I was trying to rehang the old heavy back door I struggled to get the hinges lined up. I was afraid that I would pinch my fingers in the hinges trying to get that heavy door lined up. I have a visual impairment, and usually align things well by feel. Dad asked if I wanted a little help. I gladly accepted his help. Dad, got the door realigned and I placed the top pin in the door hinges. I knew that after getting the top pin set, that the other two pins would just about align themselves. I walked over to the sink to get a drink of water, just knowing that dad would finish up setting the last two pins with no problem. Then it hit me. What if I listened to all of the scripture that I read so much of, and really applied my life verse? What if I trusted God in my daily life situations, like I trusted my dad to finish hanging that heavy back door?

Praverbs 3: 5 and 6 NLT

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, Do not depend on your own understanding.

Seek His will in all you do and He will show you which path to take.

I talk with my dad every time I have a question about a house issue, and when I have a life issue, or situation that I don’t know which path to take I have learned to go to God in prayer, and also look for answers in the Bible. It amazes me that words written over two thousand years ago still could not be more true in every-day situations.

As we start writing our own story in 2018, how would you like it to read? Another year just like the last one? When you stop depending on your own understand-ing, the relief is immeasurable.

Just trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and 2018 will look different, I assure you.

Despite the devastating warehouse fire, the Shriners Patient Christmas Party was a huge success! These photos don’t do justice

for the amount of donations brought in from all over the country! The Camels’ Tales would be filled from cover to cover if we showed every donation made. Thank you for all of the love and support!

9

To whom it may concern,

Yesterday, my family attended the Shriner's Patient's Lunch with Santa, and I cannot give enough thanks to the Shriners for putting on this wonderful event. My daughter is only 2.5 years old and this is our first year being invited to the Lunch, though we were told a little of what to expect from a friend who is an active Shriner – food and games and Santa, and even presents! When the news came out that a fire in a warehouse in St. Louis destroyed toys meant for the Shriner's Hospital, my husband said "Oh no!" But I told him not to worry, because I was sure that St. Louis would rally and come together for the greater good – and boy was I right! I remember thinking that we really didn’t even need any presents; I just wanted my daughter to be able to go to an event where she could see other kids like her, using mobility equip-ment like she does, who are different like she is! And you all made that happen, and so much more. Unsure of how crowded it might be, we arrived early – but you didn't turn us away, you welcomed us in with smiles! And actually, everyone was smiling! I can only imagine that with putting on an event of that size, at least one person must have had some stress, but it didn't show. The people who served the food, the people who helped with the crafts, the people who helped with the games – all smiling! The juggler, Santa and his wife, the elves, the superhe-roes – all smiling! The musicians, the clowns, the people handing out batteries – all smiling! I really even think that the dinosaur was smiling. And that made my daughter smile. I cannot emphasize how wonderful it is that Shriners put on this Lunch and provided this amazing experience for us. Being a parent to a child with special needs is so scary. My biggest fears are about what her future will look like, but when I saw other children at the Lunch, playing, doing crafts, just being kids – I felt relief, at least for a little while. It was so important and meaningful for me to see the people in my city who are going through some of the same things I'm going through. Finding support out there is hard, but now I don’t feel so alone in our challenges. I wish there was some way to tell everyone how much we appreciate their part in the Lunch. I hope that this letter will reach far and wide to the volunteers, the Shriners, the Veiled Prophets, EVERYONE who played a part.

With unexplainable gratitude,J. Megan & Chris Fowler, and our daughter Erin 9

[email protected] HAPPY NEW YEAR!

A new year always brings some changes, but the mis-sion of the Ambassadors always remains the same:

Support and assistance for our 2018 Potentate, Illustrious Sir Kyle McEvoy, and continued dedi-cation to the Moolah Shrine.

Our Potentate has planned some wonderful activ-ities for the year 2018. Let us attend as many of these events as we can.

Hope you were able to participate in the Ambas-sador Christmas party. We had great attendance and even a visit from one of Santa’s jolly elves.

The next Ambassador lunch will be on Friday January 12, in the Oasis Room. At all of our regular meetings we will continue to have our popular open bar and our three drawings: the 50/50, free dinner and jackpot. You may be a winner but you won’t have a chance if you do not attend. Ambassadors, you are missing a great time if you do not attend our meetings.

Please watch the Camels’ Tales for information about all of the Moolah activities. Information about all Ambassador Events will come to you through the Camels’ Tales, email, or word of mouth. For luncheon reservations call or email Wally Bowman at [email protected] or call him at 314-498-6915

The American Muscle Unit has proudly participat-ed in numerous parades this year, most recently the Saturday, November 18th Santa's Holiday Avenue Parade in Granite City, Illinois. We were happy to have our new member, Tom Shumate, bring his classic '54 Chevy to the parade as well as our newest member, Bob Wesling and his Lady. A big “Thank You” to all the members who brought out their muscle cars to parade on a cold and rainy day. We are planning on parading in even more events in 2018. In addition to our members' Muscle Cars, the Unit has 2 small and two large Flying Carpets. With our growth of these unique parade vehicles, we are looking for additional new genies to pilot the carpets. Please consider joining us if you wish to fly and delight those attending our parades.

The American Muscle Unit sponsored another BBQ for our veterans at the Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital on Saturday, November 4th. The Unit served over 200 veterans and hospital staff in conjunction with the Smoking Nobles Unit, Bonhomme Lodge, St. Louis Lodge #1, and the Widow's Sons. Bonhomme Lodge again provided the funding for the pork steaks and brats served at the BBQ. A big “Thank You” to all those who participated.

The 2018 Officers for the American Muscle Unit were elected and are:President – Keith Schilb1st VP - John Anderson2nd VP - Tom ShumateTreasurer- Tom NelsonSecretary- Jim Gesell

Finally, the American Muscle Unit will be assisting the Smoking Nobles in the Shrine kitchen on Sunday, December 10th cooking and serving for the Hospital Patient Party.

If you have a muscle car you would like to show or parade, join us. If you do not have a mus-cle car but would like to drive one of the Unit's Mystical Flying Carpets, join us! The American Muscle Unit meets the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm in the Unit Room that we share with the Hospital Committee. We hope to see you there!

First, for your immediate edification, are the Chanter initial happenings for 2018.

PLEASE NOTE: Since the Chanter officers of 2017 did such a stellar job, changes in the officer cadre for 2018 are minimal!

As you have already guessed, after seeing our masthead, our new Chanter President is Nobel John Glass. The New First V.P we welcome to office is Nobel Barry Spitzer...And otherwise, the same harmonic group of leaders, the best singers West (or East} of the Mississippi...A GROUP of outstanding VOCAL GUYS who, like that pilsner beer for which our area is well known, are ever improving, and getting better with age and they continue to guide us.

Let us not fail to mention, the Chanters OF THE BIG WIN OF BOTH THE INTERNATIONAL CHORUS AND QUARTET DIVISIONS at the IMPERIAL in Daytona Beach, Florida. Led by CHORAL CONDUCTOR NOBEL JIM GESELL, NOBELS WILLIAM BRADFORD, RICH FARRAR, JOHN GLASS, MARK BRIGUGULIO, BARRY SPITZER, DAVID LARKIN and LARRY LACKEY TOOK IT ALL!

We have hopes of again winning the top awards at the Imperial this year!

If you have never heard The Chanters sing, you should!

We do our best and so far we’re holding our own, but we need the YOUR help.

Give us your adults, daddy’s and/or anyone else possessing a voice and in spite of any naughty habits, we’ll make him a worthy Chanter.

Also, in the seeking your help department, PLEASE HELP US, if you can to arrange some singing events for us this year in Retirement Homes and such. If you hear of any such venue wanting the joy of song, PLEASE LET ANY CHANTER KNOW.

WELL TH,THAT’S ALL FOLKS EXCEPT, TO WISH YOU THE HAPPIEST NEW YEAR POSSI-BLE and, if you can help anyone, please try!

GOD BLESS you for trying!!! “30” Monte

What a great December. Lots of events which means lots of fun for all. The patient party was great with a few clowns getting on TV that night. Thanks to Lee Mueller (Green Jeans) and his lady Sharon for an awesome Clown Christmas Party. Lots of food and lots of kids, who could ask for a better time.

Congrats to all of our new officers and we all are looking to have another great year for our Unit. Although there is a complaint for electing someone to an office while he was out of the room. Will see how far that complaint goes. Can you say Brown and Brown. Just thowing that out there.

I would like to thank on behalf of our Unit, Mike Howard (Howiee) for all the work he has done for us over the last 10 years as Director of the Clowns. This was a job that he not only took seriously but also had a lot of fun doing. I greatly appreciate his efforts which were done in a professional manor and with a lot of dedication. Thanks buddy!!! I pity whoever gets to be the next Director. I hope you know what you’re getting into!

Within a week we'll be hosting our 3rd annual Trivia Nite on January 13th. Hopefully you all have a lot of friends coming and deposited all your donations for door prizes and basket items for our ladies to organize. Here's a big THANKS for all the preparation work you all have already put towards our fundraiser. Also thanks to all the workers who helped out that night. Hope you all had a great time.

Congrats to Merlin (Tom Dolan) who was the back judge in the Alabama-Clemson NCAA Semi-final football game. Did you all see how upset the Alabama fans were when he threw a pass inter-ference flag with 1:05 to go in the 4th quarter? He told me he was a Clemson fan anyway..Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down a street with a bald head and a beer gut and still think they are sexy.

Drum CorpsDirector: Rick GwydirDrum Major: Dave GlennBy Jim Hubeli Again this year the Drum Corps participated in the downtown parade in St. Louis on November 11. We are all proud to show our respect for the past and present veterans who have sacrificed so much for our continued freedom. The crowds along the route waving American Flags appre-ciated our patriotic music for Veterans Day. We commend the St. Louis Fire Department who always have the huge American Flag suspended from two ladder trucks as we played " It's a Grand Old Flag " going by. At our election meeting in October we elected the following officers for 2018. Director - Rick Gwydir, Drum Major -Dave Glenn, President - Dave Glenn, Vice President - Gary Skaggs, Secretary - Rick Gwydir, Treasurer - Rich Steed, Sergeant at Arms - Richard Watts. Executive Committee - Don Baur and Tom Wigginton. TCAA Directors - Jim Hubeli, Joe Shapiro and Bob Atwell. Don Baur will continue as our Chaplain. With this fine slate of officers, we know the Drum and Bugle Corps will have another great year of fun, fellow-ship and service for Moolah and the Hospitals. The Drum Corps wishes to congratulate Past Potentate Illustrious Sir Dean Isbell for an outstanding, successful and productive year for Moolah in 2017.

We had a great turn out for our Holiday Party, and everyone had a great time. The appetizers were fantastic – a big thank you to everyone that brought one to share! The food was great, and back by popular demand we had Anita Rosamond entertain us and she got a well deserved standing ovation. Above all, the highlight of the evening was the fellowship within our Shrine Club. We are truly blessed to have such a friendly group of nobles and Ladies.

We are a sociable group that includes our Ladies at all our activities. We meet on the last Thursday of the month at JJ’s Restaurant in O’Fallon. Ar-rive between 6:00 and 6:30 for dinner. We order off the menu and have separate checks. After dinner (around 7:30) the guys have a meeting and the Ladies play bunko.

Whether you are a member of Daniel Boone, or not -- we would love to have you and your Lady join us. We’ll make sure that you and your Lady are greeted when you arrive and that you’ll always feel welcome. If you want to join us for one of our dinners – just show up!!! We would like to plan a get together, maybe sometime in February, to have a set down with any ladies that would like to join us, for a face to face discussion about Nailah Court #107 and what we do. I think a nice tea party would be great. More to come on this event, as to date and time and where.

We are working on a new fundraiser, Crazy Bowl, coming up in February. We will be letting you know more about this soon, so please come to support Nailah Court. These fundraisers help us come up with the funds we share with Shrine Hospital for Children, to help with their needs.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

We welcome in the New Year with expectations and prayers that it will be a good year for all of us. Temple club welcomes our new President Darlene Newman and our new Vice President Christine Dieckhaus. We are blessed that our Secretary Kathy Myers and our Treasurer Janet Loesch are returning for another year of service to Temple Club.

Congratulations to our new Potentate, Illustrious Sir Kyle McEvoy, his Lady Kerry and the new and returning members of the Divan. We look forward to the coming year and the plans they have for Moolah.

Temple Club would like to thank Past Potentate Dean Isbell, Lady Kim Isbell and the 2017 Divan for their enthusiasm, commitment and leadership. We appreciate all you have accomplished.

A quick review of 2017 reveals a very busy year: a 101st Birthday celebration, a picnic style lunch with a visit to the Butterfly House, an exciting evening meeting with entertainment by the “Drill Divas”, two meetings featuring donation drives for “Circle of Concern”, a Halloween themed luncheon complete with a costume contest, a meeting where we signed Christmas Cards for Veterans and lastly a successful Bake Sale/Christmas lunch. A special thank you to our 2017 president Nancy Bradford and our 2017 First Lady Kim Isbell for their leadership this past year.

In keeping with the tradition of making resolutions, let’s resolve to grow Temple Club this year by reaching out to potential members.

Ruth, A. Shermer, Queen 314-416-8161Recorder PQ Mary LaTragna 314- 566-4727 We want to extend an invitation to all ladies, 18 and older, to join our wonderful group of ladies for a sisterhood of philanthropy, good friends, and good times. We would love to have you join us!. We welcome your ideas, energy, and willingness to help support our temple. As always, all our funds go to support Shriners Hospitals for children.

We are creating our outreach programs to help our Masonic family know who we are and what we do. We want everybody to know we are a network of 137 temples, 126 in the U.S. and 11 in Canada. Our membership exceeds 25,000! We have donated over 3.1 million dollars to help with patient care at Shriners Hospital for Children in 2015, and 55 million dollars total since our inception in 1913. Read all about us at website: donfdn.org.

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and we wish you a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

These are our thoughts for the New Year:

Looking back on the months gone by,As a new year starts and an old one ends,

We contemplate what brought us joy, And we think of our loved ones and our friends.

Recalling all the happy times, Remembering how they enriched our lives,

We reflect upon who really counts, As the fresh and bright new year arrives.

And when we ponder those who do, We immediately think of Shriners who

Work so hard all year longTo bring love joy, laughter and song

To those children who need them the mostTHE CHILDREN OF SHRINERS HOSPITAL!

Thank you to all the Shriners, Ladies groups and ladies of Shriners for their help and support to the children and the support given by the Shriners to The Daughter’s of the Nile.

Please stop by our display case in the downstairs hallway of our Shrine and pick up a brochure of our order. It tells who we are and the great things we do.

We have so many wonderful ladies that work hard to insure that we support the Shrine Hospital to the best of our ability, and who are dedicated to helping our Shriners when asked. If you have any questions or would like more information about our organization, please contact Queen Ruth at 314-416-8161, or PQ Mary LaTragna at 314-566-4727.
