Monthly Status Report No. 12 Union Chemical Site South Hope, Maine
Dear Mr. Jasinski and Ms. Kuhns:
Canonie Environmental Services Corp. (Canonie), on behalf of the PotenÂt i a l l y Responsible Parties (PRPs) to the Union Chemical Site, submits this monthly,status report in compliance with the directive of Paragraph 45 of the Administrative Order by Consent.
Review of November 1988 Work
Remedial investigation activities, consistent with the In i t i a l Site CharacÂterization Work Plan, continued during the month of November 1988. Investigation activities completed during November 1988, may be summarized as follows:
1. The Ini t i a l Site Characterization Report was submitted to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) on November 18, 1988.
2. The draft Baseline Risk Assessment and draft I n i t i a l Screening of Remedial Alternatives report were submitted to U.S. EPA and MDEP on November 21, 1988.
3. Preparation of the Phase IB Work Plan and the Interim Remedial Measure Feasibility Study Report for the Union Chemical Site continued.

Anticipated Work During December 1988
Canonie anticipates that during the month of December 1988, the following tasks will be completed:
1. The preparation of the work plans for the Phase IB Remedial Investigation and Post-Screening Field Investigation will be completed, and after review by the PRPs will be delivered to the agencies.
2. The preparation of the Interim Remedial Measure Feasibility Study Report will be completed and may be submitted to the agencies after review by the PRPs.
3. Receipt of comments from agency staff on submitted reports and preparation of responses or revised drafts.
Canonie will continue to inform the U.S. EPA and the MDEP of site activities and sampling and analyses that are conducted or proposed, as well as any problems which may arise. Copies of the remaining quality assurance/quality control analytical results for sampling conducted at the site in September 1988 are enclosed. Also enclosed is a copy of the final report for dioxin/furan analysis conducted by Radian Corporation.
Canonie believes that this report correctly relates the current status of the Union Chemical Site RI/FS. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call.
