    October 2011 Monthly Report

    1. Student Legislative Council Meetings

    SLC 69/18 October 25th, 2011

    SLC passed a new Terms of Reference binding on clubs committee. Thedecision to enshrine these terms as an SLC resolution was made toensure enhanced accountability regarding committee processes & actions.

    Council discussed the Academic Policy feedback that was compiled fromresponses from each faculty rep, SU survey, and Project Next data.

    SLC 69/17 October 18th, 2011 Susan Judd attended council to explain the Quality Money & Council

    Improvement Fund processes. Information I would share at HaskaynePresidents Circle on the 26th.

    Council discussed, and signed, the SLC accountability agreement, draftedat SLC retreat in September.

    SLC discussed the lack of silent study spaces on campus and the use oflibrary spaces and facility. I requested that Tom Hickerson address councilon the issue so that we may pass details on to our constituents

    Council approved, and I voted for, an excusal motion for one of theengineering reps so that he could write an exam.

    SLC 69/16 October 11th, 2011

    SLC had an extended discussion regarding the SLC accountabilityagreement. I suggested some amendments, which were considered withthe document coming back to council on the 18 th.

    SLC 69/15 October 4th, 2011

    Council approved an excusal motion for Science Rep. Jack Siu A presentation was given to council regarding technology use on campus.

    The University will be seeking student feedback on a number of issuesincluding changes to the email system etc.

    2. Faculty Work (and connecting with constituents)Gauntlet Interview

    I met with a writer with the Gauntlet who was working on an article aboutthe new Haskayne Finance Trading Lab. I provided the writer withbackground, details, and contact information for other importantstakeholders.

    The article became the cover for the following issue of the Gauntlet.Positive press for the Haskayne School of Business.

    3. Committee WorkClubs Committee (October 18th, 2011)

    Clubs committee approved special event funding applications for oneevent from AMIO and two events from FMG. I heavily supported all threeapplications as these events provide substantial value to HaskayneStudents both in the clubs, and students at large.

    Haskayne Student Levy Committee

    Placed a call out for funding applications, with those applications comingin early in the month. These applications were passed on to the Chair ofthe HSLC Alexandre Ste. Marie.

    Met with Alexandre on the 25th to discuss the go forward

    The allocation meeting for the 2011-12 disbursement will be the week of

    November 14th

    .

    4. OtherPresidents Circle (October 26th, 2011)

    Discussed the structure of the Haskayne clubs organization, currentlyknown as AMSO. Had a presentation from Brent Snider on how thesestructures work at other business schools.

    Explained Quality Money & the Campus Improvement Fund and notedthat, while I have my own projects to propose, I am open to hearing of theprojects of others.

    Outlined some of the key learnings from my consultation with club

    presidents regarding Academic feedback. These are far too lengthy toshare here, but I would be happy to share a summary on request.

    Noted that the SU is looking for Student at Large members for a numberof committees and encouraged club presidents to let their members knowthat they should apply.

    Followed up the meeting with a long, very detailed, email explaining manyof the issues that I summarized here.

    Clubs Leadership SUmmit

    Attended the 2011 Clubs Leadership summit as both President of theStrategic Management Association and as SU Haskayne Representative.

    This proved a valuable opportunity to network with some businessstudents who I had not yet had the chance to meet.

    Haskayne Dean Review

    Dr. Leonard Waverman is currently asking for a one year renewal as Deanof the Haskayne School of Business.

    While I do not sit on this committee, I have had the opportunity to expressfeedback to a number of committee members directly regarding the issue.

    The committee has now made a recommendation, which is pending adecision from UofC President Dr. Elizabeth Cannon.

    5. Goals

    Status of October Goal (if applicable). Further engaging existing Haskayne students by taking an active role in

    student clubs and initiatives

    This was achieved this month through accepting a role as an unofficialstudent academic coach with the Haskayne JDC West MIS casecompetition team. I also worked with a number of Haskayne clubs, andattended a long Presidents Circle meeting.

    My goals for November are:

    Building Haskayne CIF & Quality Money applicationso Haskayne Undergraduate Lounge

    o Haskayne Student Clubs Trailer Working toward a new Haskayne Levy

    o Partnership with CUS and support of every Haskayne club is anecessity for this to work

    The steps to be taken to achieve these goals are:

    CIF/Quality Moneyo Working with student partners, as well as Haskayne administration

    to establish cost needs and potential club/admin partnershipso Engaging CUS as a partner in the planning process

    New Haskayne Student Levy (NHSL)

    o Conducting a stakeholder analysis to ensure that the new levyreflects the needs and concerns of all students and studentorganizations in the Haskayne School.

    o Encouraging Haskayne administration to be a partnero Working with the SU to draft those needs into a Terms of

    Reference & a referendum question (long term)
