Apart from the major components, other activities carried
out during the month of April included the provision of
generators to all district offices, provision of ACs to five
districts, delivery of 1106 android tablets to all districts of
Cohort 1.
Staff Training
IRM is again awarded Long Term Arrangement (LTA) by
UNICEF Pakistan for the year 2015-16 to create an efficient
system of training services required by all the sections of
UNICEF through one window operation. The purpose of
hiring IRM under LTA is to organize and conduct training for
the Communication Network (COMNet) field staff at district;
union council and community levels.
Progress for the month of April included the preparation of
plan for Area In-charge and Polio teams in FATA and KP,
coordination with FATA agencies and KP district
coordinators for confirmation of plan, visit of UNICEF
representative to IRM, and meeting with procurement and
supply department for next LTA.
Other activities included the meeting with White Rice
Communication representatives, lecture on community
IRM is implementing a five years long USAID funded project
titled “Pakistan Reading Project” in Balochistan in
partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC).
Activities of Cohort 1 – phase 2 included the orientation of
DPM, SSA, Reading Specialists and Mentors. IRM also held
a 3-day orientation session of Academic Supervisors and a
5-day face to face training of Teachers to build their
capacity on reading skills.
Under component 1 (Improved Classroom Learning
Environment for Reading) the major activities performed in
April included the formation of material review committee,
orientation of TIG facilitators, teachers training through TIG
meetings, support visits to schools, procurement of tablets
and memory cards, and disbursement of ongoing B.Ed.
(Hons.) and ADE scholarships.
Activities of component 2 (improved policies and systems
for reading) included capacity building of potential PRP
stakeholders/partners, need assessment of each of the
apex institutions responsible for in-service training,
presentation of draft need assessment report to the
provincial advisory committees for their feedback and
financial report and identification of technical assistants for

SPakistan Reading Project:
Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Programme (SPPAP)
Institute of Rural Management, in collaboration with the
Government of Punjab had implemented the South Punjab
Poverty Alleviation Programme (SPPAP) in Districts
Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur. As
of April, IRM successfully provided vocational skills training
to 7,840 targeted beneficiaries. Similarly a total of 2,868
beneficiaries had empowered with enterprise development
training.
Planning for the month of May include entrepreneurship
training of 100 beneficiaries; of them 10 will be enrolled
from Bahawalnagar, 63 from Muzaffargarh and 27 from
Rajanpur.
Youth Economic Empowerment Project - Chakwal
Institute of Rural Management, in collaboration with Plan
International Pakistan had implemented Youth Economic
Empowerment Project to enhance technical capacity of
existing TVETs and poor youth of three Tehsils of district
Chakwal. IRM successfully completed phase I of the project
and got extension for second phase.
Progress for the month of April 2016 included provision of
financial support to the selected youth for the skills plus
development to the students of QAU, followed-up with
UNICEF for the payment, followed-up with Dr. Jamil for
IRM's affiliation papers, announcement of Summer
Internship Programme 2016 and diploma in Advance
Research Methodologies.
IRM Sindh;
During the month of April, IRM Sindh team provided Tailoring
and Uzbuk Embroidery training to 50 female beneficiaries of
District Lasbela under Gwader Lasbela Livelihood Support
Project. Similarly, IRM Sindh in collaboration with TRDP also
provided Mobile Repairing and Driving skills training to 40
targeted beneficiaries.
Activities under project “Improving Socio-Economic” status of
Women from Urban Slums of Hyderabad included monitoring
visits, technical support in conducting written and practical test
of 200 women participants and facilitation in bid opening for
toolkits. Other activities included meeting with TRDP for
opening new schools at Jamshoro, meeting with District
Education Group Jamshoro, meeting with IRM smart school
teachers, meeting with LSO/VO representatives for increasing
enrollment and coordination with different Partners/Donors.

VTEC Azakhel
IRM-VTEC Azakhel in collaboration with FATA Development
Authority had implemented an Entrepreneurship Training
programme in 2012 in FATA region to provide
entrepreneurship training to 5,600 youth and to assist them
in setting up their own businesses. As of April 2016, a total
of 4,200 (75% of total targeted youth) successfully
completed entrepreneurship training.
Similarly VTEC Azakhel in partnership with Secours Islamique
France (SIF) had implemented Economic Development
Project in January 2016 to provide three months certificate
level vocational skill training to 200 (100 males and 100
females) people from Afghan and Host Communities in
Peshawar. As of April 2016, IRM successfully trained 200
targeted youth in the pre-identified trades.

institutions. Other activities included the formation of TNA of
119 pax from seven villages, enrollment of 78 youth from 10

VTEC Rawalpindi
During the month of April 2016, a total of 80 candidates
were enrolled by VTEC Rawalpindi in following technical
trades; of them 44 successfully graduated during the month
of April and 36 would complete their training in May 2016.
