I am very proud of the focus we have had on membership this year. Welcome to our new members! • The GE Chamber of Commerce (shared membership: Dawn Smith, JP LaCour, Rob Herbold, Terri Smith-Pfeiffer) • John Hughes Glen Ellyn Bank and Trust joined the shared bank membership • Emily Kehoe, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans • Liz Mager, Chocolaterie Stam • Erica Nelson, Lake Forest Graduate School of Management • Matt Streicher has joined with a shared membership with the Village of Glen Ellyn • Steve Thompson, Merchant Payment Solutions Group • Rob Wilkinson, BR Ryall YMCA • Imam Mohammed Zafarullah, Bait-ul-Jaamay Mosque We are currently at 41 members. We have a couple more prospective members who are going through the process now. One of the greatest gifts we can give this club is the growth of our club through new members who will support our mission and vision into the future. Thank you also to all who attended and to the committee members including Dawn Bussey, Steve Thompson, Emily Kehoe, and Erika Krehbiel who made the event possible. It was fun! Four members of our club attended the Rotary District Grants Seminar last month at Harper College. It was mandatory that the club represented in order to receive district grant funds. Thank you to Paul Keenon, Erika Krehbiel, Liz Major, and John Mulherin for representing Glen Ellyn at this workshop! We are thankful for the many amazing presenters we welcome to the club each week! Recently we were honored to have some of the very best. Great information shared and connections made! Thank you to Dawn Bussey for coordinating the speakers! Executive Director of Philip J. Rock Center, Bonnie Jordan, shared her story and information about the Philip J. Rock Center and School in Glen Ellyn. The center provides services and a home to deaf-blind children in Illinois. President of the Wheaton Rotary Club and community volunteer Steve Johnson and Ginger Wheeler spoke to the club about East Branch DuPage River Trail (EBDRT), a north/south bike and pedestrian trail. In every issue of Rotary Round Up, we feature a Rotarian who makes a difference in our communities. These are people that fill many roles in their day-to-day lives and apply Rotary values in everything they do.
This spotlight features one of our newer members, Steve Thompson. Steve joined Rotary this year and has already contributed so much to the club. He has even served as greeter when we needed one in a pinch! Thank you, Steve, for volunteering your time and talents to the Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn!
How did you first learn about Rotary?I first heard about Rotary in college but first really learned about it here in Glen Ellyn through the various service projects done by the club over the years. The service projects in Glen Ellyn have been impressive and always seemed well thought out and successful.
Why did you join Rotary?I wanted to join a service club to contribute more to the community greater good. Everything Rotary does seems well thought out and focused on the community of Glen Ellyn.
What do you appreciate most about Rotary?I appreciate the fellowship and community we enjoy once a week for lunch. I also look forward to the other social and community events throughout the year.
What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of Rotary?I like to play golf and bowl in a winter league. I like working with computers and all things digital. I like to travel, cooking, reading, movies and the Cubs!
What is one fun fact about you that no one might know?
I have lived in Iowa, New Mexico, California, Nebraska, Massachusetts and for the last 20 years in Illinois.

Certificate price of $150 includes reception, dinner and a chance to win cash prizes of $1,500, $1,000 and $500! Get your tickets now — Only 100 tickets are sold!
