For those who missed this years FLMC picnic at Snyder Park I can only
say that you missed a great event. The weather was wonderful, the pavilion
was a first class location and I am sure that everyone who attended enjoyed
the food, drink, and entertainment. At one point I counted over 75 people in
attendance but the crowd kept changing as the afternoon festivities contin-
ued.
Some highlights: Ted Crosby looked like he was in heaven cooking with
his assistants at a BBQ pit that could have handled hundreds of people
while the ladies kept bringing out more and more food that seemed to be
from an endless supply in the kitchen. Entertainment included a DJ with an
afternoon full of music and games for the kids, games for the adults, and
games for the adults who like to act like kids. We saw some new members
arrive and even some older members whom we rarely see. Plenty of chil-
dren were in attendance and everyone kept eating, eating, and eating some
more. Yes I will admit I went back for 3rd's and the ribs were finger licking
good.
Overall another successful FLMC party. Please take the time to applaud our
2012 Activities Director Arlene Weicher and all of her crew for making our
2012 annual picnic an event to be remembered. Well done Arlene / Thank
you,
Christopher Karentz

Boat Graveyards Haunt Haiti
Over the decades Haiti's waters have become a dumping grounds for ships left to rot, and its maritime graveyard has become a hazard to the country's main port. Now a team of shipwreckers is determined to clear the navigational hazards. Ft. Lauderdale Mariners Club Member, Geno Gargiulo, president of Commercial Diver Services, is currently in Haiti undertaking this colos-sal endeavour. The island of Galešnjak
Galešnjak was only "discovered" in 2008 by the Internet search tool Google Earth. CNN did a
report on the island being one of several natural heart-shaped phenomena. Google Earth pub-
lished its story on Galešnjak exactly 202 years after the publication of Napoleon's famous "Map
of Dalmatia", on which Napoleon's cartographers very clearly drew Galešnjak as a heart-
shaped islet. The islet of Galešnjak, which is owned of the Jureško family, is interesting due
to its heart-shaped form, and as such is desirable in the tourist promotion of the natural beau-
ties of Croatia. The islet is situated in the Pašman Channel between the village of Mrljane on
Pašman and the village of Turanj on the mainland. Its area is 0.132 km2, and the length of its
coastal belt is 1,545 metres. Its highest point is 36 metres above sea level.
The presentation of the islet of Galešnjak has given rise to the idea of linking the "Croatian
Island of Love" with the three other heart-shaped islands in different parts of the world into a
"World Archipelago of Love". Support for Galešnjak and the promotion of the natural beauties
of the Croatian coast was obtained from the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Science, Edu-
cation and Sports, the Croatian Tourist Association and the Home on the Beach Educational
Centre.

Who’s this Mariner?
Boat of the Month
Word of the Month: deep six, n. & v., death, the grave, or to dispose of, 1929. The origin of this
term is uncertain, but is widely thought to be a reference to burial at sea at a
depth of six fathoms.
Why do seagulls fly over the sea?
Because if they flew over the bay, they'd be bagels!

Take a cruise on the Nautilimo! The Keys' Most Unique Tour boat!! Board the
NautiLimo and tour the islands in real "Limo" style. Watch heads turn as you
and your friends ride to your favorite waterside restaurant and "watering
holes". The NautiLimo is a car that thinks it's a boat or is it a boat that thinks
it's a car?? You be the judge!
NautiLimo is designed to carry 1-6 passengers on the sheltered waters of Flor-
ida Bay. Your limo is powered by a 100 hp Yamaha engine and has all re-
quired safety equipment on board. Florida Keys vacation travel is not com-
plete without a Cruise on Florida Bay aboard the NautiLimo.
