Keeping up with the success of being the only 5-stars hotel to receive “Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Award 2014’’, Caravelle Saigon has passed other candidates to once again be the unique hotel in the country receiving the “VIETNAM ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS 2015’’ from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), along with other companies and other local organizations in Vietnam.
As the only and official award held every 2 years by MONRE, this is to honor individuals, enterprises, agencies for implementing excellent performances and achievements in contribution to environmental protection, sustainable development and green growth.
Coming off a successful EarthCheck benchmark year with good result, this award is considered as another noteworthy milestone after many years of outstanding effort of the hotel in Environmental conservation such as saving energy, water, consuming eco-friendly chemicals, as well as other outdoor activities (Flashmob, Biking for the Environment, Cleaning up the Beach…) to call on public attention in keeping the place we live clean & green.
Silver certified with EarthCheck since 2011, this historic 56-year-old hotel received the Green Lotus Label in 2012 and also won ASEAN Green Hotel Award for green practices and non-stop activities for the community in 2014.
These two achievements signified that Vietnam was finally at peace with the world, and was on its way to becoming a strong and relevant voice in international relations. The country’s economy improved steadily, and investments came flowing in from overseas.
One important result of Vietnam’s economic development was the growth of the tourism industry. Visitors increased slowly, cautious at first and unsure what they would find, then in ever-growing numbers as the years passed. The number of Ho Chi Minh City hotels increased, as well, and others underwent serious renovations. In 1994, as Caravelle Saigon was in the middle of constructing its new building, the face of the city’s hotel scene was being changed in other ways.
Although new hotels were going up and others, like Caravelle Saigon, were renovating and expanding, the numbers of tourists did not yet match the number of new rooms being built...
Historical Context—Thanks in part to efforts by Senators John Kerry and John McCain, President Clinton announced the normalisation of relations with Vietnam in July 1995. Two weeks later, Vietnam became a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
These two achievements signified that Vietnam was finally at peace with the world, and was on its way to becoming a strong and relevant voice in international relations.

Yuya Arashima is the founder of Star Kitchen. Prior to coming to Vietnam, he worked in IBM as business management consultant. Zedd is coming to Ho Chi Minh City for his True Colours Asia Tour!
The anticipation is finally over and the details of Zedd’s True Colours Tour have been revealed. And the good news? He’s coming to Saigon this August to play a show just for us.
In case you’re not up-to-date, Zedd is Anton Zaslavski, the producer with two hit albums, [Clarity] and [True Colours] to his name, as well as production credits for stars like Lady Gaga. He collaborated on a track with Selena Gomez, [I Want You To Know]–the first single of [True Colours]–and there was tabloid talk of a relationship.
