Whether it’s a local get together or the annual office Christ-mas party, choosing the perfect outfit can be more stressful than fun. It’s one of the few times in a year you can let your hair down and dress to dazzle - but how do you get it right without looking like a Christmas tree? Here are some of our top tips.

1. Dress for who you are The key to dressing for a Christmas party is letting your person-ality shine through. Don’t feel as if you have to break out the sequinned dress if it’s not your thing - there are many alternatives to choose from: black velvet wide-legged trousers, sassy and sexy printed tops or even georgette print

dresses dressed up with a classy shawl or evening-themed cardigan.

2. Get the founda-tion right Many women spend hours finding the perfect outfit, but neglect to get the ba-sics right: yes, we’re talking underwear. Don’t discover at the last minute that you don’t have a strapless bra to go with your halter-neck dress or worse, that you’re suffering from the dreaded VPL. There are all sorts of shape-smoothing options, from knickers that even out your lumps and bumps under close-fitting dresses to tights that hold in your tum, and some clothes these days even have the shape-wear built into them - see kaleidoscope.

3. Go for sexy but simple While it might be tempting to break out the leopard-skin and stilettos, remember that even though

you’re partying with them one night, they’ll still be your co-workers the next day. The office party with the boss in at-tendance is probably not the place for acres of cleavage - aim for sassy and sexy with-out overdoing it.

4. Style doesn’t have to mean sacrificing comfort

The office party can be a long night, so make sure your outfit is comfortable. Go for fabrics with a bit of stretch that will move with you and avoid too-tight waist-bands if you’re going for a meal before the festivities. Most importantly, make sure you wear your new shoes around the house a few times before attempting to dance the night away in them if you want to avoid hobbling home with your feet covered in blisters.

5. Fall back on the basics If it all seems a bit

overwhelming, you really can’t go wrong with the classic Little Black Dress. But black doesn’t have to be boring: try accessorising with some simple but tasteful chunky silver jewellery, a colourful evening cardigan or a silky shawl in a contrasting colour - and don’t forget the shoes, where you can really go to town and let yourself shine.

Newtowns’ new Chamber of TradeOnce again Newtown has its own

Chamber of Trade to fight the cause of the town’s traders

Over the last month there have been meetings between a growing num-ber traders and the election of a chair, secretary and treasurer. The first achievement of the Chamber has been to establish late night shopping in the town. Range_e, Jaguar Land Rover’s technology concept for a plug-in hybrid diesel-electric powertrain, has been hon-oured with the 2011 Award for Automotive Innovation by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The system, first revealed at the Geneva motor show in March, has been hailed by the auto industry as the most significant achievement of the year in UK research and development for the global market. Range_e marks a world first as a luxury all-wheel drive vehicle powered by plug-in hybrid system, bringing together a 69kW electric motor and 14.2kWh lithium-ion battery with Land Rover’s 245PS 3.0-litre TDV6 diesel engine. The vehicle, based on the Range Rover Sport, can be driven for more than 20 miles on its electric power, creating zero tailpipe emissions. Beyond this range the diesel hybrid drivetrain engages seamlessly and continues to optimise CO2 emissions. Overall CO2 output is 89g/km with 85mpg fuel economy, while the system’s combined power of 339PS delivers a top speed of around 120mph. Battery recharging can be accomplished simply and efficiently by connecting the system to an external 240V power source. The award, sponsored by GKN, was presented to Jaguar Land Rover by Norman Baker, Parliamentary Under-Sec-retary of State for Transport, and Rob Rickell, GKN Global Engineering Director, at the SMMT annual dinner.Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive and chair of the judging panel, said: “Jaguar Land Rover has engineered and manufactured a highly efficient and technologically advanced prototype vehicle that clearly demonstrates industry’s commitment to lowering vehicle emissions and creating exciting products for demanding consumers. “This award champions industry innovation, promoting cutting-edge automotive engineering and design that the UK is famed for around the world.” Accepting the award, Peter Richings, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Engineer for Hybrids, said: “Innovation and technol-ogy are the lifeblood of our business and we are delighted that our work has earned this recognition from our industry peers. Range_e demonstrates the advances we are mak-ing in cleaner and more fuel efficient performance with-out compromising the performance and all-wheel drive capabilities that are at the heart of our brand and we look forward to bringing its benefits to the market in the near future. The award for the Range_e project is testament to the range of skills, excellence and enthusiasm of not just our own engineers and designers, but the people in the research and academic organisations in the UK that have supported them.”The Range_e is one of a number of Land Rover projects supported by the UK Government’s Technology Strategy Board and five prototype models are currently engaged in a test programme with Land Rover’s fellow members of the CABLED - Coventry and Birmingham Low Emissions Demonstrators - consortium. The technology showcased in Range_e is destined to be deployed in production vehicles. This will follow on from Land Rover’s planned introduction of its first diesel-electric hybrid model in 2013.

CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF ADVERTS in the“Montgomeryshire Independent Advertiser” by the Montgomeryshire Independent AdvertiserThe terms “we”, “us”, “our” and “MIA” refer to Montgomeryshire Independent Advertiser.. The term “advertiser” means the person or body forming a contractual agreement by submitting an advert for publication in the Montgomeryshire Independent Advertiser.In order for MIA Limited to provide the very best service, advertisers need to be aware of our Conditions for Acceptance of Adverts. The following conditions govern our acceptance of all advertisements (which are referred to as ‘adverts’ in these conditions) for publication in our title and the placing of an advert by any advertiser is deemed to be an acceptance of these conditions.1.MIA reserves the right to refuse any application for an advert- without explanation. Our agreement to publish any advert is conditional upon our seeing the proposed advert. We reserve the right to refuse or revise part or all of the advertiser’s artwork or copy at our sole discretion. The decision of MIA is final.2.Adverts must comply with the requirements of all relevant legislation and codes of practice governing the advertising and newspaper industries in force in the United Kingdom at the time of placing the advert. All adverts submitted must be legal, decent, honest and truthful.3.Any adverts that are subsequently deemed not to meet our Conditions of Acceptance will be withdrawn from future issues.4.It is the responsibility of the advertiser to check adverts and notify us of any mistake or inaccuracy immediately it appears. We will make all reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy at all times. We reserve the right to make reasonable changes to the size of adverts as they appear on publication, and to avoid doubt we make no guarantee that an advert will appear exactly in accordance with any size specifications given. Adverts purported to be ‘full-page’ or ‘half-page’ shall be sized at our discretion.5.Colour registration will conform to current print specifications. In the event of an error in the colour reproduction or in printing of an advert which materially detracts from it we will re-insert the advert or the relevant parts of the advert to rectify the error- and our liability for such errors (including colour blurring) is limited to such re-insertion.MIA will not be liable for any consequential or immediate loss resulting from any error in an advert,- (whether in the content, layout or printing) or from omission of an advert.6.Our liability for any error, misprint or omission will not exceed the lesser of either:- (a) the amount of a full refund of the sum paid to us for the advert or the first of a series of adverts; or(b) the cost of a further corrected advert of a type and standard reasonably comparable to the original advert. (i.e. MIA would reprint the advert in a ‘future’ edition).7.We will not be liable for any loss of copy, artwork, photographs or other materials, or for any loss or damage consequential thereto. Advertisers providing such materials are advised to retain adequate copies for their use in the event of such loss.8.Box Numbers are only available to private advertisers and some Situations Vacant adverts. Applications for Box Numbers must be made in writing and include evidence of address that is less than 3 months old (utility bill; council tax bill, bank or building society statement – or similar document). MIA does not accept liability for any loss of any kind arising from the non-receipt or delay in the receipt of replies to Box Numbers. We also do not accept liability for any disclosure of the identity of the advertiser to any third party. The advertiser hereby authorises MIA to disclose to Trading Standards , the Police or other competent authority any information relating to the advert or the advertiser. Any such disclosure will be made by us in good faith, and the advertiser acknowledges that he will have no cause of action in respect of any such disclosure. MIA reserves the right to withdraw the Box Number service immediately and without prior notice and for any reason, including the breach of any of these conditions or where we believe the reputation of MIA could be brought into disrepute.9.All advertising, (including trade and private advertising) must be prepaid.10.Adverts (including text, images and logos) are accepted in good faith by MIA in the belief that advertisers are not infringing any copyright or other intellectual property rights. The advertiser warrants to us that the reproduction and/or the publication of any advert does not breach any contract, or infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, or any other personal or proprietary rights.11.The advertiser agrees that copyright and any other intellectual property rights in adverts, and adverts created by MIA shall be vested in us and be our sole property and we alone shall have the right to instigate proceedings and to claim damages and all other relief in respect of infringements of such copyright and intellectual property rights.Data Protection.The advertiser agrees to the reasonable processing of any personal data relating to the advertiser within the meaning given by the Data Protection Act 1998 (‘Personal Data’) for the purposes of providing advert insertion services to the advertiser. Processing of any Personal Data by us will comply with all relevant legislation, including but not limited to the Data Protection Act 1988, and any relevant Codes of Practice. MIA is registered under the Data Protection Act 1998.These conditions shall be interpreted in accordance with and governed by the law of England and Wales.
