The 8th Annual Montana Ewe Sale will kick off on Wednesday, September 15th, at 6:00 pm sharp. Ewes sell at the Eastern Montana Fairgrounds in Miles City, and this year features 885 head of Montana raised yearlings and ewe lambs. The first 385 head will be offered and sold on-site at the Agri-Sports Building. Another 500 head will be available off-site at two locations across the state.

Some producers took advantage of a fantastic lamb market last fall and sold extra ewe lambs and this year is looking good for a strong lamb market as well. Here’s your chance to sell more lambs in 2021 and still maintain your breeding ewe flock with purchased quality replacements.

Ewes offered have a reputation for quality, so you can feel confident buying your ewes at this sale. The on-site ewes will be individually inspected by our sale veterinarian for general health, clear eyes, sound mouth, and udders. The ewes offered have been treated for keds at home. Any ewe not passing inspection will be screened out and will not sell—we want buyers to take home ewes that are functional and ready to go! The on-site ewes are available for viewing after 3pm on Tuesday and all-day Wednesday.

Many breeds will be offered this year, including several cross-bred ewes, from 18 different consignors. We welcome Jones Ranch from Conrad, Jeff and Dawnita Sampsel of Sampsel Livestock of Stanford, and MT Ag Experiment Station (MAES) of Bozeman, as our new consignors this year. Jones Ranch will bring Rambouillet ewes backed with over 70 years of experience raising reputation wool and lambs. TargheeXRambouillet yearlings will be consigned by MAES according to Wyatt Geis, Red Bluff Sheep Manager at MSU. Jeff and Dawnita Sampsel plan to

bring 40 head of Targhees in 1 lot of 20 head, and 2 lots of 10 head.

Suffolk and Suffolk/Hampshire ewe lambs will be offered in pens of five. All whiteface ewes are about a year-and-a-half old, born in the spring of 2020. Check the consignor listing on the facing page for details on breeds offered.

The off-site lots will be offered by Lehfeldt Rambouillets (Lavina) and Helle Livestock (Dillon). Ben Lehfeldt from Lehfeldt Rambouillets will sell two lots of 100 head each. The 100 head lots will be offered in groups of 50 head—Lots A and B. Successful bidders will have the option of taking one or both

lots at that price before bidding is reopened on the remaining ewes.

Helle Livestock offers up 300 Rambouillet yearling ewes for your consideration. We will offer these yearlings in groups of 75 head-Lots A, B, C and D. Successful bidders will have the option of taking one or all lots at that price before bidding is reopened on the remaining yearlings.

All of these off-site lots are high quality Rambouillet yearlings. Here’s a great opportunity to partner with another sheep producer in your area and increase your flock numbers or start a brand-new flock of premium Rambouillet ewes.

Buyers not able to attend the sale in person need to register to bid online at frontierstockyards.com. Online buyers should register 2 days in advance of the sale and preferably use a computer with high-speed internet on sale day to provide the best bidding experience. Phone bidding is also available ( page 7).
