Montaigne On Cannibals Debate
- All our efforts cannot create the nest of the tiniest bird: its structure, its beauty, or the usefulness of its
form; nor can we create the web of the lowly spider. All things, said Plato are produced by nature, chance,
or human skill, the greatest and most beautiful things by one of the first two, the lesser and most
imperfect, by the latter.

- We have evolved since Montaignes time; however we have not evolved completely and therefore are still
evolving.
- The areas that were previously considered less evolved or more barbaric have evolved considerably

y China has history with torture and abuse of minority groups, usually more rural
people that the people in industrialized areas have before considered more
primitive or uncivilized, especially prevalent through the interrogation process.
However recently a law was passed stating that evidence obtained through
torture would be inadmissible in court, a huge step forward for China
considering they had previously denied any accusations of torture. This has
caused western nations to look to China respectfully for aspects other than
their economic success.
y China has been trying to improve relations with minorities and other nations
recognize Chinas attempts to do so and therefore have more respect for the
country, since a lot of the issues the western world found with China had to do
with its human rights abuses.y The western world does not consider itself superior to China even though China
has a communist system, which in the past has been extremely contested by
Western society. Its success as a nation has revolutionized the way many
Westerners think.
o Middle East
On Iraq (rebuttle): "In this process, the United States does not support particular
candidates or coalitions," he said. "But like any sovereign, independent nation, Iraq
must be free to chart its own course. No one should seek to influence, exploit, or disrupt
this period of transition. Now is the time for every neighbor and nation to respect Iraq's
sovereignty and territorial integrity."
http://imeu.net/news/article0019686.shtml y Palestinian and Israeli leaders are coming together for direct talks on the
conflict, something that has been stalled for almost a decade. Although nothing
has been achieved through these talks, and the violence between the two
groups has not by any means deteriorated, it is a huge step forward that the
leaders are actually going to have these talks. Prior to this, the western
civilizations havent necessarily viewed the nations as uncivilized, but following

these peace negotiations has caused many Western Nations to look to the
nations more respectfully.
