Figure drawing is the cornerstone to great drawing, painting, sculpting, and composition skills. Improve your artistic ability using the anatomy of live models. Emphasis will be on the quality of lines and proportions. Instructor Salomon Kado-che, an artist who has dedicated his life to perfecting his craft, will guide you in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Please bring charcoal pencils, pastel pencils, kneaded eraser, a chamois and one-sided razor blade. Classes will not meet on 9/21, 10/19, 11/9, and 11/23. AMERICAN CIVIL WAR 1861-18650900 1 Th: 11/2 6:30-8:00 p.m. $8This graphic program assesses the political, cultural, and economic reasons why the American Civil War was fought. Instructor will review major battles and weapons used, and show how obsolete military strategy and primi-tive medical techniques contributed to the slaughter of 750,000 men. The Gettysburg battle will be analyzed and the roles of women, minorities, and minors will be discussed. The reasons why insurrections within the Confed-eracy contributed to its defeat will be explained. The program concludes with the war’s tragic aftermath as well as a question and answer session. Appropriate for ages 12 and up.

HALLOWED GROUND – PUTTING THE CIVIL WAR DEAD TO REST0901 1 T: 11/14 6:30-8:00 p.m. $8750,000 men died in the American Civil War but the tragedy was magni-fied by disrespectful burial practices where large numbers of bodies were dumped, unidentified, into trenches. Enemy soldiers were frequently not buried at all and left to rot where they fell. The program will cover this issue and show how after the war Federal and State governments, including large numbers of women, sought to rectify the matter. This is a graphic program.
