• Installed in 2010 & upgraded in 2014 (DVB-S2)• Data visualisation tool provided by Slovakia meteorological services

• Training• On-site during installation• Courses organized on a regular basis since 2010 (class-room + distance)• Data used for marine, weather, agriculture, water management

• Partnership with meteo services of Croatia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania

EUMETCast – Africa: status & approach

• EUMETCast available over Africa since ~2004

• Bandwidth: 2.55Mbps net (3.6 Mbps raw data rate)

• Around 250 users, with 300-400 stations

• Types of users:• National meteo services, regional/continental climate services (ICPAC, ACMAD, etc.)

• Regional entities, often with training mandates (AGRHYMET, RCMRD, etc.)

• MoA, MoE and related national entities, UN branch offices

• Fire management services (e.g. AFIS)

• Universities and research centers

• Private people and private sector (few)

• Demand-driven: real policy and user needs

• Capacity building projects

• User ownership

• Long-term commitment and sustainability
